GrimmyG's Achievements

  1. Common Sense and MSE have never steered me wrong.
  2. Cleaning my CPU Heatsink, removing the CPU and then placing it back in, not checking the pins were lined up and forcing my CPU into the housing, bending pins and breaking the housing. This was about 10 or so yrs ago, when P4's were very expensive, so i had to replace $1000+ worth of parts at the time, wasn't impressed.
  3. I use Sophos Endpoint Security now as I have access to about 800+ licences, but I have used many different brands of AV from Kaspersky to AVG to Avast to Avira and Even LANDesk (Which uses the Kaspersky engine) and i have always noticed that they all have different flaws some bog the system down when loading or scanning, some take forever to initiate when the pc is first loading and even some that completely make the system unusable. LANDesk and Sophos are enterprise edition AV's and even they have their flaws. LANDesk at the moment is making some of our user’s pc's completely freeze and not wanting to update correctly, whereas Sophos doesn't seem to have many issues at all, it even comes with a firewall it also updates every hour and with a bit of tinkering you can get your system as secure as possible. At the end of the day it is personal preference and you will not know until you try them all and see which one fits best for your environment. Thats my opinion :D
  4. Does the laptop have a dvd drive? Does it see the disc in bios and then allows you to hit any key to start the install?
  5. Upgraded it and then sold it to a mate for a carton of beer :D
  6. iPhone 5 until the new one comes out and work wants me to test them on our network.
  7. I use IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari (all for work) both on PC and MAC. I have had problems with both Firefox and Chrome on numerous occasions ( not installing or not uninstalling correctly- but our default browser at work is IE so that's what I mainly use.
  8. I.S Technical Support Officer - so I get to play with computers all day - love getting paid to do play with some pretty awesome equipment.
  9. I thought it was pointless as it was mainly built for touchscreens, but after installing it and obviously installing a start menu (Start8) i find it fine.. couple of things are a pain, like the default media players, but installing VLC fixed that :D.
  10. Honestly i was not going to upgrade to Windows 8 as i saw there being no point, being basicly made for touchscreen pc's, but after installing it and playing around with it and installing Start8 i have found that its not the bad, a few things i don't like, but thats the same with Win7 and WinXP. \ At the end of the day i thought i would give it ago and it was only $50 here, so i thought if i didn't like it i would have passed it on to a family member.
  11. I use to use Firefox for a very long time, and then Chrome came out - i started using that, and then on a image i built it was giving me nothing but grief so i moved back to IE and i haven't looked back since. On my work laptop i am using all 3 browsers for testing if we have issues, but i mainly use IE.
