.Ocean reacted to Curious Pineapple in Exhaust uses more fuel?
If you've changed the back pressure you'll have changed how well the cylinders fill. The intake and exhaust system is engineered around the engine and desired power delivery.

There is overlap between the intel and exhaust valves so that the flow of gasses out of the engine pulls more mixture in. In theory the exhaust valve closes just as the last of the exhaust gasses leave the cylinder, with minimal fresh charge loss. If the exhaust is more free flowing it dumps some of that mixture out of the exhaust reducing power and using more fuel. It also effects the air velocity through the intake tract and changes how much air gets drawn in in relation to the amount of fuel that's been metered.

It's safe to say that a combination of the noise (leading to more throttle) and exhaust changes will increase fuel consumption.

Being a Fiesta though you've pretty much doubled the value of the car

I'm still running an 8350 from when I first built my computer years ago and performance is still completely fine. If all they are doing is netflix etc. then it will be more than enough and considering people have such a hateon for the fx series you can probably pick up the hardware nice and cheap

So you followed the first part of my advice and did install with only one of the drives attached...

Like I said I know Windows really doesn't get along well with other partitions on the install drive but completely separate drives are another story and you wont have to worry if you only have one drive attached during install. Its not like windows can complain about a drive that isn't even attached.

AHH so it was a misunderstanding after all. They are not checking the similarity of the hashes, they are attempting to generate the old password by applying slight modifications to the current password supplied and then seeing if that produces the SAME digest that they have on record.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, I don't think this could ever work. for any string x, i'm pretty sure outside of normal collision probability (which is very very very tiny), you would never expect hash(x) == hash(x[:-1] ). Salt or no salt.

If LastPass is logging off soon after you login, or your session seems to expire too quickly, this may be a caching issue with the browser. Try clearing your browser's cache (usually located in the "History" or "Tools" menu) and then login to LastPass again. Sometimes other extensions or add-ons, or restrictive browser settings, can cause the caching issue. Therefore, it may be useful to white-list the LastPass extension within these other extensions or browser settings.

Disable javascript and flash, that's the only sure fire way. I also find microBlock works pretty well and HTTPSEverywhere should always be installed.

If she needs javascript and flash then consider installing a seperate "sandboxed" browser with those enabled that she only uses whenever she absolutely needs them.

.Ocean got a reaction from 0x1e in I need help! I dont get fps by lowering res.
This sounds like there is a frame rate limiter running? Somewhere in the settings for the game or steam or your GPU there will be a setting for a maximum frame rate. It sounds like that setting is set to 90 for you so even when you give your pc more resources to use it cant utilize them. You can change that to whatever number you want or unlock it but running low intensity games with the max frame rate unlocked is kind of wasteful.

    Anyway, just my 2 cents

In terms of security it doesn't matter, the connection from your phone either way will be connecting to the VPN. In terms of reliability, in my experience VPN clients run terribly on mobile devices so I would suggest you run it on your desktop.

.Ocean got a reaction from Sir Asvald in HELP!!! Problems about network switch
What everyone has said so far is correct, an ISP will only give a consumer household one IP and that is assigned to your router. Buying a managed switch won't help you in this regard. You was to connect your unmanaged switch to the router then connect all the devices that need internet to your switch.

If you need to open ports for the server you open them on your router.

Your ISP will most likely also give you a dynamic IP (they can change it whenever they want, and it usually changes when your router restarts) this obviously ruins the whole point of a server so you are going to need a dynamic IP service which will forward a static IP for you. I personally use and really like Dynu but there are 10s of other services out there.

    Happy serving!

No, you cannot put a switch between the router and ISP connection.
The ISP will give you one IP address and that will be the first device that asks for it, then the rest of your network will not have connectivity.
You need to go ISP > Router > Switch > Everything else.

Depending on your country and how sensitive the data the secure network could be transferring i.e customer information etc. Hire a professional to properly set up a secure network. If you do something wrong you are liable and trust me privacy laws are not the best ones to be breaking.

Windows doesn't have drivers for every single obscure piece of hardware that might be installed. You need to either use the cd that came with your motherboard to install the network drivers (and all the other ones) FOR THAT MB (and then update the using your internet connection of course).

Or download them on a separate device like a laptop and move them onto a usb so you can install them on your computer.

.Ocean got a reaction from Ace McPlane in Meltdown and Spectre question.
Touch ID has its own security concerns. Sensitive files that are kept encrypted and stored on your hard drive are fine. Spectre and Meltdown read your system memory (essentially when your data is in its most vulnerable state, the processing state).

Let me put it this way, lets say you are using asymmetric encryption to communicate online, which everyone on this website is doing but I'm sure you can imagine the big business and government that also apply the same encryption methods. You receive a message and decrypt it using your private key. If you are being attacked by someone exploiting Spectre or Meltdown your private key has been compromised. Not only does this person have the ability to read every encrypted message sent you you using the matching public key, violating confidentiality. They can also use your private key to sign messages as you, violating integrity. AND THEN if this wasn't enough,  you wouldn't even know that your encryption key had been compromised and even when you do find out you have the whole headache of getting new certs and distributing your new public key.

Temporary keys used in encryption are also in danger but I feel like this post is long enough.

.Ocean got a reaction from Damascus in Gaming has gone to shambles, hollow, lacking character and depth.
The problem of games not being focused on games anymore isn't because people care about the empirical experience they are having (creating the fps bragging etc) its that the formula for a game has been more or less figured out. Game devs have nailed down what makes people feel good while playing a game and so they rehash that formula over and over again, just take a look at the Assassin Creed series just to name one, they run out of 'game' to innovate on and then they go for the technology and make it look prettier (although having a game look better isn't really a problem). I don't care what people play their games on but PC is definitely the better option. The reason a great, innovative, unique, and deeply enjoyable game seldom comes along nowadays isn't because of the tech that runs it, and my proxy the culture surrounding that tech, but in fact its because of the direction game design has taken overall.

If you are satisfied with everything you have why force yourself to spend the money? Sock it away and spend it when you find something that you really want. Although with christmas coming this thread might be a 'what should I ask for for chirstmas kind of deal and in that case you could just ask for money (although not having a physical present under the tree isnt that fun). Maybe just have whoever is getting you present surprise you, they might think of something useful you had not thought of and it's exciting not knowing what you are unwrapping. I would highly recommend against the switch though.

.Ocean reacted to pentotark in Metal from io shield in hdmi port
That flap comes from your IO shield. You should remove your motherboard, remove the io shield, bend the flap back where it was and mount everything back inside the case. Or... you can bend it away if you don't mind damaging the io shield a little bit. Make sure the pc is turned off properly before doing that.

EDIT: looking at the picture better, I cannot quite figure out if the io shield is placed badly inside its frame or the motherboard itself is not correctly making contact with it. Either way ideal solution would be to remove the motherboard and fix the io shield issue.
