Crashbash111 reacted to CPotter in Weekly Sponsor Concerns Update - Aug 25, 2023
Hey everyone,
Please see below for our first weekly sponsor update! If you have any questions or concerns, we would advise centralizing feedback into our main "Sponsor Complaints" thread. That way we don't have to maintain updates across 52 of these weekly updates by this time next year.
Secretlab
We're still keeping communication going with the folks over at Secretlab regarding the support service end of their products. We don’t have any new information to share at this time, but we will keep the dialogue going.
Volta
We saw there was an additional Volta post. We apologize for any issues people are experiencing, and we want to clarify that we’re no longer partnered with them.
BuildRedux
Regarding the RMA issue posted earlier this week, we'll see if we can be put in contact with their customer support in case there are larger issues with their RMA process. This is a partnership that Geoff oversees, so he may be in contact with the poster next week to gather some additional information regarding the shipping of the label if needed. While we have no reason to believe they're using parts previously used for mining, perhaps we need to check in on their RMA policy to make sure delays aren't their standard.
Anker
I believe we are at day 225 or so of asking to be taken off all of their sites. We were removed from taken off their primary landing page last week, but we are still waiting and requesting to be removed from their different Amazon pages as well. Our team was in contact with Anker as of Tuesday about the matter, and we will keep everyone updated.
We recently posted our sponsor "Do Not Work With" list here on the forum, and will be updating it as needed. We think it's important that our audience better understand our processes for vetting new sponsors.
Part of that process is vetting through the community. We regularly post potential sponsors on the board to see if any one of you has experience with the different brands that reach out to us, and we take that into consideration before engaging. Ideally we'd love to get every single item in to try it firsthand, but time and manpower doesn't always allow for that, so it's important for us to get a temperature check on something before having it brought in to try or test.
Thanks for reading this, and thanks for your fairness and patience while we work with our different partners to try to better the field as a whole.
Until next Friday!

Crashbash111 reacted to LinusTech in I Made a Bad Decision – Framework Investment Update
My job is to make high quality, entertaining, informative content.
If I have to bait people into watching it, but they enjoy the video and learn something then I don't feel bad.
From my point of view, it's like putting a fun cartoon character on a pack of spinach to get kids excited to eat it.
It works and now we all know about the importance of modular laptops so we can put pressure on mainstream manufacturers to respond to this threat to their crappy, unsustainable business models.
Sorry, not sorry.

Thanks for the concern everyone. We are still in recovery mode over here and working with YouTube to get everything restored. Will hopefully have a video (or at least an update on WAN Show) to share with you all ASAP, but we want to make sure we get the details right since smaller channels may rely on our experience to help harden their own security.

Just noticed this video has been put in the Intel Extreme Tech Upgrade playlist. Given it's now sponsored by AMD you might want to rename the playlist or start a new playlist.

Probably unlikely noting they'd probably have 2FA enabled. There was a home automation youtuber that experienced the same hack a few weeks back from opening a screensaver (.scr) file that was disguised as a PDF (which I'm guessing probably stole his browser cookies) so might've been the same thing here.

I'm kinda hoping it's not the LastPass thing, I was led to believe that nothing of value was given in that 😓
I think I need to change all my passwords now

I wonder if they will be able to get their channel back before Friday. Or this might be the thing that breaks their years long WAN stream streak on youtube

We decided to purchase the building.

We will be ok.

Crashbash111 reacted to D13H4RD in NVIDIA finally officially supports Adaptive Sync (with a small catch)
One of the biggest bombshells in NVIDIA's CES 2019 press conference was the announcement that NVIDIA GPU users will no longer have to get a G-SYNC monitor to utilize adaptive sync, as the company now extends official support to a number of FreeSync-capable monitors, dubbed as "G-SYNC capable".
There is a small catch however. Jensen Huang claims that after testing approximately 400 monitors on the market, only 12 are deemed to be worthy of bearing the "G-SYNC CAPABLE" moniker. These 12 are;
With all that said, if your monitor is on the "We're not wooooorthyyyyy" list, the setting can still be enabled manually from the GPU Control Panel as part of a driver update that will be released on the 15th of January, whereas supported monitors have them enabled automatically.

Crashbash111 reacted to RadiatingLight in 1080p 144 hz VS 4k 60hz with gtx 1070
Why not 1440p? the 1070 is great for that, and it will look better than 1080p, while not being as taxing as 4K. (maybe you could get a monitor that runs 1440p 75Hz? IDK if those exist

Crashbash111 reacted to mariushm in Looking for good LAN games
Quake 3 arena
Unreal Tournament
vv -- dunno if these require internet for co-op or local plays. may need internet just to launch Steam and the games, then run games locally in lan.
Dead by Daylight ( 4vs1 co-op)
Broforce could be fun if it doesn't require internet for co-op
Trine 1 and 2 could be fun as 3 player co-op but i'm not sure if they're internet free
Worms Reloaded could be fun if you're patient to wait your turn but again, not sure if it works without internet
Borderland and Borderland 2 co-op ?
stalker shadow of chernobyl has some multiplayer mode and can be fun but it's a bit old and can be buggy on some systems (can crash from time to time)
Serious Sam
If you dig turn based games, could try Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and/or 4 I guess, would work with at least 4 players on the maps. Heroes 3 shouldn't require internet connection.
If you like building/simulation games, you could get OpenTTD ( open source transport tycoon ) and play against each others at making railways and airports and transport passangers between cities. It's easy to set up a dedicated server on one computer and then have lots of players on same large map.
In the Windows 98 days I used to play Carmageddon in lan, but it was dos game using IPX or some old protocol for network which no longer works in modern games. Also played some game with snipers Delta something, which used voxel rendering for graphics.. wouldn't enjoy it these days.
You sure you won't have any internet? Maybe you could set up some internet access with one of your friends' phone just enough to run Steam and authenticate games and let it do checks it needs to run games (a few hundred kb of traffic maybe?) and then do things only on LAN
Steam also has a tag system .. you can browse games tagged as Local co-op or Local multiplayer
1. local multiplayer http://store.steampowered.com/tag/browse/#global_7368
2. local co-op http://store.steampowered.com/tag/browse/#global_3841

Crashbash111 reacted to Rune in Spotify has (potentially) been killing your hard drive
So, I've been using Pandora simply because I don't like how Spotify looks. It appears that was a correct decision. Later on in the article, they state that this will be fixed in a soon to be coming update, but I don't think that excuses them from having to deal with the hardware they have already potentially killed. Who knows how many devices have already failed?

Crashbash111 reacted to nicklmg in Vessel acquired and shut down by Verizon
Very little info tbh - there's not much to be said. Their assets have been bought by Verizon and the platform is shutting down.
All Vessel subscribers get the month of October for free, and anyone who signed up for a full year will receive a pro rata refund.
I got a call from them yesterday about 5 mins after the news broke to inform me of it, and that they would be honoring their commitments to us. I asked about what was happening to subscribers who bought the year, and they gave me the news I mentioned above, which seems fine to me.
Outside of that there's not a lot to say lol. I expect they'll give the same info this week on WAN Show, but I wouldn't expect any new massive news to break as a result - the information we have is all pretty much public knowledge.

One question, does this means vessel subscribers have 7 days of no new videos from LTT? How am I supposed to survive for 7 days?
