  1. you would be surprised... so basically everything is the same on both computers? down to the same driver? then it must be some kind of setting in the bios
  2. what mouse? some brands require additional software to enable smooth scrolling and such. Check the manufacturer website just in case
  3. you could get an AIO cooler for the same price. Also, I think you could save a few bucks on several components without loosing performance or anything
  4. If you have two platforms, with similar performance and price, then you should get the newer one. As simple as that. You can build an skylake system now on the cheap, then upgrade to a kaby lake cpu when it comes out. At least thats what Im doing. Besides the z97 is TWO YEARS OLD, do you want something that is already outdated?
  5. depends on the game and the amount of dust there is. I guess you have to open it to find out.
  6. this is the closest thing I could find: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Single-Port-Super-speed-USB-3-0-PCI-16x-32x-Interface-Card-for-PC-with-Low/32663442149.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.110.WOzrks&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_8,searchweb201602_5_10057_10056_10055_10049_10017_10059_10058_10060_10061_10062_412_10063,searchweb201603_8&btsid=7f361b1c-8097-4db2-865f-4b6c917adcb9 I dont think you can do better than that under 50 USD. The one from amazon is a good one IMO.
  7. could you elaborate a bit more? you mean like the fans keep spinning and the leds stay on after shutdown?
  8. pretty much this. Fortunately there are plenty of guides on how to disassemble your laptop http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/lenovo-y50-disassembly/
  9. sigh back to op. How about http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130922&cm_re=am3%2b-_-13-130-922-_-Product
  10. for smart go to advanced > pch config for ram it should be under Ai Tweaker > disable mch full check (mine is set to auto tho)
  11. PS. the is another option for splash screen delay. set that to 0 seconds
  12. I have seen this before. I think it happens if you enable S.M.A.R.T test or memory test. Try disabling those, plus make sure Fast Boot is selected.
  13. this, mouse + keyboard must be connected before POST, otherwise they wont work
  14. You should consider upgrading to a more recent platform. Pretty sure you can get a new skylake mb+cpu+ram for under $200
  15. Depending on the company, they might send you a prepaid empty box to ship your motherboard. If not, then you have to do it by yourself. Just make sure you use an anti-static bag and lots of bubblewrap/ newspaper.
  16. then the psu is dead or worse, your motherboard is dead. Assuming all the connectors and cables on the psu are fine, then it seems like the psu is gone. Do you have access to a second power supply?
  17. here you go http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994163
  18. Most motherboards have an led light that comes on when it gets power from the power supply. I would check that first ,then make sure that the power button is connected correctly to the header.
  19. http://www.overclock.net/t/741845/cooler-master-elite-310-hyper-212-plus/10 seems like a tight fit but it works
  20. You would have to call microsoft and tell them that you replaced the motherboard because the older one broke or something. They give you a new activation number and thats it. Technically you are using the same license you had on your old motherboard, but you need an activation number for the new one to work under that license. And yes, you could clone the drive or use the backup utility in windows.
  21. did you try setting the switch on the keyboard to a different setting?
  22. I would try different combinations of the usb settings in the BIOS, starting with everything set to enabled:
  23. just uninstall the chipset drivers, usb and video drivers. Swap motherboards and boot into safe mode just in case. Install the new drivers, reboot, then proceed to activate windows again. +1 on this. Do a backup before removing the old board
