  1. I only have the Exos and the Barracuda in my house atm, and I will be choosing between one of these 2. Shipping it all back for an Ironwolf is going to be quite a hassle. The Exos is brand new from Amazon, has 45hrs uptime on it which is consistent with uptime since I installed the drive. So should I keep the enterprise level drive and send the consumer oriented Barracuda back?
  2. Hi, At the moment I have 2 6TB HDDs here, and I am trying to decide between which one I should keep. First I had ordered a WD Black 6TB but that drive was so loud I could hear from the next room over, and the whirring sound it made made me send it back not even 2 days later. Now I am trying to decide between the Exos 7E8 (which is an enterprise drive but I believe maybe a generation or 2 older now as they seem to be on 10 now) and a Barracuda Pro Compute ST6000DM004. I use my pc exclusively for gaming, nothing else besides the casual youtube watching. Attached are the CrystalDiskMark figures for both drives. Pricewise they are the same, differing by about 10 euros with the Exos the cheaper one. 3. ATX MOBO, along with a 240mm radiator, 3 SSDs and 3 HDDs, Gigabyte GeForce GTX1080 G1, a rather chunky soundcard (the name of which escapes me at this early hour), an extra USB PCI card and a bunch of fans. Also a Corsair 800W modular PSU. I guess it could probably fit in a mid tower but I like the extra playroom I get as I have been planning on maybe going custom loop, and I just like the aesthetic of the bigger cases. The bequiet darkbase was indeed on my watchlist already.
  4. Hi guys, Have had a 800D for YEARS now, and I think it's time to retire it. Besides a few scratches and scuffs accumulated over the years, the front IO and the fact that I lost some spare parts over the years mean that I would like to switch to something new. The case is quite full now, so a downsizing is not really much of an option, or if it would be it could not be that much smaller. Needs to have plenty of front USB 3.0 IO and a side window pane. Now I know this is something depending on taste and such, but just looking for suggestions or experiences of others with a similar sized case. Not a fan of the 1000D. Thanks
  5. So, I am looking for the following: a wireless bluetooth headset that comes with a base, so I can have 2 inputs. So connect it to my record player so I can listen music there, and the BT function so I can connect it to my phone and take it with me on the go (away from the base station) Does anything like this exist, or am I wanting too much here?
  6. UPDATE: PC has been idling all day, when I got back, it was frozen up again, this just whilst idling. Memtest86, chkdsk, all come back clean...
  7. Hmm, I had MSI's OC Genie running for a 0.5Ghz boost, switched that off, but it just happened again. The PC bogged down and subsequently stopped reacting to the start menu click and right-mouse input again... the windows OS is still pretty fresh, so I am not sure if that would solve much.
  8. Allright, so this has been going on for quite some time now. While playing games, or even just sitting at idle, watching YouTube,... sometimes my pc will simply freeze. I can still move the mouse, but right clicking does not show the box you normally get, clicking the windows key to restart does not show the start menu, pressing the power button does nothing, I have to hard reset the system to get it to reboot. Often this goes paired with me hearing a single click coming from the case, where the drives are located. SMART values for the 4 drives are all good though, and I am not experiencing any system slowdowns, writing/reading to the disks give no problems either (2 new SSDs, 2 HDD's) Ctr-shift-esc still brings up task manager, but for example the resource monitor stays empty and shows all HDD and SSD at 0, and the ram and cpu usage at the last value, no updates are being done. The processes don't load either. The clock also stops working, it just stays stuck at the time the freeze happened. Any ideas what could be causing this? -Windows 10 -GTX1080 -i7 4770k -16GB ram -msi z87-gd65 motherboard
  9. Allright, I guess that's a pretty clear cut answer, thanks guys! I was playing with the idea to upgrade because I am having some hardware issues (which I think are MoBo-related, not sure yet) and figured that if it would come to me having to get a new mobo or something, to see if it would make sense to just change out the whole lot while I'm at it. For now then back to troubleshooting, and if it would come down to a replacement, just get a cheapo one to hold me over until next year.
  10. so as the title says. Currently running an i7 4770K with 16GB Ram, some SSDs and a GTX1080. Would I see any benefit from upgrading? No content creation, mainly gaming (from demanding AAA titles to the more basic or more dated games) I am just wondering if it would be worth it for me atm to upgrade something from the new AMD line-up (Ryzen/Threadripper), however I seem to gather that Threadripper would be somewhat overkill for normal gaming uses. Thanks for your input!
  11. Hi, so I have been struggling to update my Windows 10 install to the Anniversary update for quite some time now. I am still running build 1511instead of 1607. The update keeps just hanging at 0% for whatever reason. Attached you will see a screengrab of the error code it ends up with. 0xC1900101-0x2000C is the error code it throws, along with saying the installation failed in SAFE_OS phase with an error during the APPLY_IMAGE operation. So far I have tried the following: Uninstalling Bullguard AV Uninstalling Virtual Clone Drive (since this apparently is a driver error) doing the install with everything USB and external devices unplugged, except DisplayPort connector and audio jacks. Tried the install from a USB stick and by running the W10 setup.exe from the C-drive. It will start, and just sit for hours at 0%, even overnight. A hard reset then reverts bact to 1511. Annoying, as some thing in the Windows store require the newest update, and I would simply prefer running a up to date version. I have noticed however in the logs I found in $WINDOWS.~BT\sources\rollback that it tries to access something on the D-drive, but that is my dvd drive that doesn't have anything in it. Could this be affecting install or not, since this is in the rollback folder. I will also include the logs from both of these locations. 12. Yes, the G1 (on paper at least) outperforms the MSI and the Standard Strix. It only clocks at approx 50-60MHz below the OC'd the Zotac and Asus. Would this be really noticeable? If it's only 2 fps extra, I won't really care lol.
  13. So, as the title says... I am currently wondering which would be the best investment. I am doubting between the following: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming MSI Armor OC Asus Strix Zotac AMP edition Concerning the last 2 on the list, would it be worth waiting for the OC version to be in stock or not? Would it be possible to eventually push these to the OC myself? As Linus once said: don't get the most expensive card But the numbers look nicer
