  1. Ok, so maybe I missused the word home theatre. What I meant is a modern high end living room with a lot of remote access and automization. I would like to be within the reasonable range where the money is not the issue, but we should shy away from deminishing returns. You know what I mean a 3500 dollar 65 inch might be reasonable but a 20000 dollar 80 inch TV wont be. I hope you get me
  2. Hello friends I want to make it brief but still understandable. We safed some money for a long time "dream" of ours to upgrade our home entertainment. The flat will have full automatization from lights to AC/heating that gets controlled via a tablet. Boxes in the walls of different rooms will be also individually controllable from the tablet. The TV with Dolby Surround should also be connected to the tablet. A "server" (is it called that?) will be hidden in the corridor that is connected to a sound system (to play the music), a bluray 4k player and the server for the software control i assume. What I would need from you (because im a bit of a nooby here) is to understand what specifics I could or should use here. Its a lot of money and I would probably buy a 40 inch Full HD Tv. Until someone said that its probably better to go with a 4k HDR TV with Smart TV. The bottom Line is I would need help to choose the specifics (not brand just specifications) of the individual components. I would also appreciate some tipps and ideas of how to make this work. Questions: What kind of TV 55-65 Inch should I use? What specification should it have to work the way I described? What kind of Sound System would be needed to achieve controllable audio in different rooms or from the TV etc? What kind of future proofing should I look for in the technology? What tablet and tablet remote control solution would you recommend? What service solution for TV software would you recommend? Bluray rental and TV-Shows? Do you have any additional ideas that I can not think of now? Thank you very much for your help. Any idea, any comment even if it just answers one aspect of my question is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
  3. Something like a Delock 2Port DVI-Switchbox, Duallink 24+5 would do? That means I would need two very short DVI-cables and one medium range DVI cable. Two from each GPU and one from the switch to the monitor. This solution would automatically choose (when i press) which GPU is used, while both GPUs are in use on my motherboard? Also does it effect my HDMI cable that is plugged into my dedicated GPU? Would it cause problems or pick the dedicated one? Thanks so far!
  4. While it is an option for the Ubuntu, I dont really feel comfortable to play around with the Tails version. They delete themselves after use and the idea is to not manually change too much in them. However if there is an easy solution that an amateur can do Im willing to listen of course As I just got started I thought its easier to just let the linux run over the integrated GPU which solves the problem completly. Its just a hassle to switch.
  5. Hey everyone! I ran into a problem when connecting my two monitors over different GPUs in my build. I need to do this because my USB booted linux based system does not work/recognize my dedicated GPU. So I need to switch the DVI cable everytime I want to start my normal windows based machine or switch to the linux one. Setup: I have two samsung monitors with DVI, HDMI and Displayports. I have one monitor connected with the hdmi and one with DVI for windows mode. I switch the dvi from the dedicated one to the integrated one when I want to use linux and leave the other monitor black. I also have to switch every time in the BIOS from use of IGP to DGP manually after switching the cables. It supports multimonitor setup with the use of the integrated GPU. Dedicated: GTX 1060 Motherboard: MSI Gaming 3 CPU: i5 4690 (i think) The goal is now to have a hardware or software setup that allows me to have minimal effort when switching to the linux system. Thank you for the help. I didnt find anything usefull because noone needs two monitor from different gpus if the one good one already does it. I just need it for the resolution of my linux. Which is Tails and Ubuntu btw. so a solution within linux doesnt help me.
  6. I make it quick and dirty this time. You offer great help and I dont want to waste your time, but rest assured I thought my part already. I want to build a mini pc (think hometheater) in a small case. I want to be able to have two monitors at 1080p running on it (whit the programms mostly on one). Its a multimedia setup, means streaming movies at 4k (max. one at a time), butter smooth netflix, plex, crisp internet browsing with 7 tabs open, you get the idea. The tricky part is I also want to play certain games at 1080p with 30fps (pref. 60 fps). Games narrow down to league of legends, hearthstone, world of warcraft and rocket league. Medium settings are more than fine. Thats all I ever do on my pc so the idea now is: Make it as powerfull as needed (no more overkill, no more "for five dollars more you could get this and this") > as cheap as possible >= as small as possible I was thinking a small form factor case, mini itx with wifi and bluetooth, 4gb ram, good cpu with integrated graphics that can power these games, stock fan and small factor power supply with like 350w or something and good ssd + hdd storage for movies etc. It should run windows 10. So what would you say. Thank you very much already.
  7. Thank you a lot. I went for the GTX 980 TI solution. Leaving the motherboard and CPU be for now (just put the ram to 16 GB and some more storage). I will go with the next upgrade being a new motherboard, cpu and sli gtx 980 ti, if the need will come around and maybe a new PSU when im at it. But thats for another post in the future. Thanks again and thread solved
  8. So you would use a GTX 1080. Would a GTX 980 TI do the job (as the others are not available)? Specifically the ASUS STRIX-GTX980TI-DC3-6GD5-GAMING as it is on sale at the moment? Would you upgrade the motherboard just for the sake of potential SLI use later on or leave it until it hapens? Would you upgrade the i5-4690K to something more powerfull or wont it make much of a difference? Do all those things work under my 750 PSU and fit into my case and be compatible especially with the MSI Z97 Gaming 3? Thanks you
  9. Ok thank you a lot. Do we know when the 1080 will ship again? Or is it as good to take the 980 TI? So would it be ok to just grab a 980 TI and leave the rest except Ram and Storage. Or Use the 980 TI with a new CPU (I still have some budget left) and an according motherboard. Or Use the 980 TI, leave the CPU but change the motherboard to be SLI ready (I get its not recommended but two 980 TIs will be more affordable I guess than an 1180 or 1280 alonge the line)? Will it fit into my case and I dont have to worry about PSU? 980 TI can of course be the 1070 or 1080, but that depends highly also on the availability. Ill wait but not too long as im sitting on a 4K alone. Thanks.
  10. Ok so selling the GTX 970 and investing into a GTX 1080 (not 2x GTX 1070 or GTX 980 TI) would be best if I want to use my money (or a tiny bit more) to really upgrade my PC to hold a few years. Also selling the CPU and investing in a newer one or upgrading the motherboard is an option so I could run SLI in the first place.
  11. Thank you already. So you would say a GTX 1080 will do just fine and better than buying a two GTX 1070 or 980 TI? Also do you think upgrading the motherboard to one that can handle SLI would be worth it? Also with the CPU in mind? I would want to have solid 4K Gamin with the potential to upgrade when I need more demandig stuff later. Also I dont want to run into any bottlenecks as the guy before suggested.
  12. So you would say it makes more sense to upgrade the CPU to like a i7-6850K and get another GTX 970 with a motherboard that will allow SLI? That is future proof and 4K? Or rather a 980 TI (selling the 970) and just upgrade the CPU a bit to like a i7 4790K (with the option to leave the motherboard)?
  13. Hello! I posted exactly around a year ago in here before and received great advise! I built my first PC (of which I will post the speccs) and I ran now into some issues that I need advise for. The PC that I built has these speccs: CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Standard CPU Cooler included. Motherboard: MSI Gaming 3 Z97 Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive and Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card Case: Corsair 500R Black ATX Mid Tower Case PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX750B BRONZE 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply It all worked out great and the building process went smooth thanks to your help. I used a triple monitor setup with three Asus 1920 x 1080 monitors, where I ran into first issues. Some games worked fine (I use the rig to play games and work) but obviously I couldnt run the witcher etc. on three monitors on good settings. I then went on and sold my three monitors (two of them sold) and bought a 4K 40 inch monitor that was on a super sale. The 4K monitor has displayport support and 60 Hz etc. so that shouldnt be an issue. I dont play games that often that require 1ms of reaction time anyway, NOW: I want to upgrade my PC to finally run the games that I want on acceptable settings in 4K on my monitor. So that means I have to upgrade. I have a budget of 1000 dollars (in CHF so I will have to pay more for my parts, meaning think cheaper but not cheap) to upgrade my existing PC. Whant I want (tl:dr): Upgrade my existing PC from above to be able to run a 4K monitor solidly with the occasional demanding game at eyecandy settings and it should be a bit (at least) future proof. In a budget of 1000 dollars. My thoughts (so you dont think I didnt try): Getting a second gtx 970 with the need of upgrading my motherboards as well (I dont know to which one) (Asus hero VII?) and possibly replacing the CPU, Adding another 8 GB of ram and one more WD Blue or Black for some extra storage. Greatly appreciate any help to future proof and upgrade my pc to 4k in the limits of 1000 dollars, with specific names if possible and please look that it fits into my case because I dont know this stuff. Almost bought SLI for my motherboard without SLI support x) THANK YOU VERY MUCH
