  1. Yes I am sure it is correct. I even am able to control from the ASRock RGB LED controller just currently RED on PC = BLUE on Strips GREEN on PC = RED on Strips BLUE on PC = GREEN on Strips
  2. I changed motherboards/cpus recently. I had 2 little led strips in my machine previously and everything worked well. I had an ASUS board that let you go through and in software choose what pin is what color on the RGB strip. My new board is a threadripper ASROCk Taichi x399 board. Overall it seems to work as I have wanted to this point. The only thing that seems to be odd is that the board RGB Header pin out does not seem to match my LED strip and there does not appear to be any software way of changing this. I am running ASRock RGB LED for the controller for this and it seems that the pins are just swapped from what it should be. Does anyone have any recommendations on what the best course of action to get this to work correctly would be? Maybe a 3rd party LED controller?
  3. Because that's not really what I am looking for here. Long back story, but have a NAS in the office and at home that get backed up to, but also looking for something local sitting on the desk next to my machine.
  4. I am thinking about purchasing this https://www.amazon.com/Book-Desktop-External-Drive-WDBFBE0080JBK-NESN/dp/B074R59TLB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1547507259&sr=8-1&keywords=western%2Bdigital%2Bexternal%2Bhard%2Bdrive%2Braid&th=1 What I am looking for is something local I can run USB 3 or USB 3.1 or similar that would be an external drive enclosure for multiple drives that I can run in raid primarily for backups. I work on a lot of big files for work and I run through those single 4TB - 8TB drives for backup pretty quickly. I am hoping I can find some type of an enclosure that I can potentially just swap drives on as needed for RMA or whatever reason. Does anyone have any good thoughts? For me, I am running a Ryzen thread ripper on my primary machine so Thunderbolt compatibility, not a necessity. Open for suggestions. Thanks, Matt
  5. I have a ryzen 7 setup in a fractal meshify c. Being ryzen is does not have thunderbolt but does have usb c and 3.1. I have a Samsung 960 evo m.2 as my boot drive. I have a lot of stuff synced with a couple of cloud storage offerings and have a good chunk of stuff synced with a NAS. I have 2 8TB 3.5 ironwolf drives in my machine. I am using windows storage spaces to essentially run them in raid 1. I am currently at about 75% of use on that storage. It has prompted me to add more drives. I do not have any more bays/caddys in my case. I am debating getting an external drive enclosure that runs via usb 3.1. One like this or similar. Mediasonic USB 3.1 4 Bay 3.5” SATA Hard Drive Enclosure – USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps Type C/USB-C (HF7-SU31C) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078YQHWYW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_SaepBbF7YJFEJ I am wondering what peoples thoughts are on this with using this as a potential target for a storage space array. I am thinking I can just have all the drives in here and put this next to my pc with one cable. SATA is 6gbs. I believe usb 3.1 is 10gbs. However I am guessing all 4 drives would share that bandwidth where I think each data connection is a dedicated 6gbs. Does anything think I will have any issues in windows adding these as "internal" drives? Other thought is getting a fractal r6 and just dumping more drives in there. But I do like the meshify. Thoughts?
  6. I am wondering if it makes any sense for me to possibly look into an external drive enclosure for my pc. I recently was attempting to streamline my desk and decided to go a little smaller with a meshify c. I really like it but currently it only accommodates 2 3.5" drive bays. I prefer to be able to make a little raid array to one increase storage and have a little redundancy. I saw Dmitry at hardware canucks review of the meshify c and he tried using an external drive enclosure from Silverstone. He mentioned not being able to get it to work right bit never really followed up. I guess I am asking if anyone else does this? If so what is their set up and what would be some good enclosures to look at and what interface might be best? For me I currently have 2 3.5" drives in a Windows storage space set up. I also though have a few extra droves stirring around that I could easily incorporate into an array if I wanted.
  7. Hi Guys, This sounds like a very basic question, but I am fairly competent and not sure what is going on here. I have a custom built PC. It is as follows. Ryzen 1700X Cooler is a Corsair H100i v2 Asus GTX 1080TI Turbo 64 GB of Ram - Gskills 1 M.2 Samsung 1TB 860 EVO (2) 6TB Drives set up in Windows Storage space Raid 1 Windows 64 Pro I had everything in a Phanteks case from an old build. Everything was working fine. I then moved the system into a Fractal Meshify C (loving that case). I am now finding that just since switching the case my system goes into a hibernation and does not come back. I have gone through the PC power settings and made sure everything is set to leave the PC always on. It was already set that way from before. Now what I am finding is it is like it goes to sleep/hibernates, I have LED elements in my case that are still in their breath mode, When I push my power or reset button nothing comes back. I checked my header connections and they look correct. I don't know why it ever even went into that hibernation/sleep mode. I am trying to see if anyone has any thoughts as to 1) Why might a PC be randomly starting to sleep/hibernate? Are there any deep settings I do not know to look at? 2) Is there any thoughts anyone might have as to why the pc does not wake itself? I know it is a little vague, but hoping someone has some thought.
  8. Kind of funny. I actually have that one at my house. I have a work desktop, home desktop, and laptop. I have a little dock at home and work for the laptop that I have going into each kvm. At work, though I have two monitors set up and that is the issue. After playing with it more I think I have semi sourced the issue. I think it was an HDCP/cable issue. I was getting video black and I think that that was caused by an hdcp issue. I am not sure however why that was being caused. I then swapped almost every cable and I have it working now, but with an occasional flicker. I am wondering if one of the cables maybe was not hdcp compliant if that is a thing?

    KVM Issue

I am having an issue with a KVM. I have a startech SV231DPDDUA2 https://www.startech.com/Server-Management/KVM-Switches/2-port-dual-dp-kvm-switch~SV231DPDDUA2 I have two machines. 1 - Custom built tower with a 1080TI 2 - Dell Precision laptop I just wanted to be able to switch between these two. I have two monitors 1 - Dell P2715Q a 4k monitor 2 - Dell U2417H a 1920x1080 monitor So my issue is when I connect the tower PC directly to the 4k monitor all is well. I get 4k at 60hrz. I am happy with this. When I then connect the display out on the graphics card to the display in on the kvm for PC 1 and another cable to the input on the monitor I get black. However, it is black as if it was connected. I am using display port cables for this with no adapters. I then hooked up a second monitor bypassing the kvm. When I connect or disconnect the original monitor from the kvm the second one flashes implying that it sees the change. I think the black is a video black or something because generally, I get a little floating dialogue box saying no signal if it doesnt see a signal. If I skip the display port cable and use the HDMI input on the monitor and run and hdmi cable to the kvm then put a female hdmi to male display port adapter on the kvm side it works. However it is maxing out at 30hrz. I would like this to work as it should using just display port connections without adapters and getting 4k on the main monitor at 60hrz. The secondary monitor seems to work fine. Anyone have any advice on what to try or do? I contacted startech and they seem clueless. Thanks, Matt
  10. Darn. I think I am just going with what I shared. But do you think it is just a bios update on that board? Just hard to tell if there is a real compatibility issue
  11. I don't think I know of those. Never actually heard of that.
  12. Seriously that is my thought too Anyone in the market for a lightly used i5 and board?
  13. So for what we are using them for they are really not doing too much it is just to drive some video content. We are not using them for anything cpu intensive otherwise. That being said the threadripper, cooler, and board are around $900 in the parts list. The i7-6850k with the MSI board and cooler is about $600. That $300 difference multiplied by 5 systems is about $1500. I don't see any reason I really need that performance of threadripper so wondering if there is any benefit to adding that. Thoughts? Matt
  14. Not sure exactly what it is doing it or whatever, but here are the cards I am using they say the need x16 https://www.pny.com/NVIDIA_NVS_810_for_Eight_DP_Displays Chatted with nvidia and they said to be sure to use a x16 slot per card current board can do 3 x8 slots, but put two cards in there and it wont boot Matt
  15. So budget want to be as reasonable low as possible, just don't want to overspend for what this is. I could do the ryzen thing, and honestly have a ryzen 1700x in my personal computer and am a big fan. What this is for is a pc to play back video on a video monitor array. Talked with NVIDIA and they recommended a pair of NVS 810 cards. They each need 16 pcie lanes. So essentially need 40 based on availability. Totally wasn't paying attention to this. Below is the build I have already bought. Problem is I already bought a i5 with and mb with 24 pcie lanes (sad face right now) not thinking about that. Ideally I am hoping to get a processor and MB that is compatible with all the other components at this point so I am only stuck with a cpu and board as left overs at this point. The CPU and board shown in the list are not purchased yet, but what I was leaning toward at this point. Open to recommendations. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/matt8445/saved/#view=2pLd6h I am in fact making one of these then assuming it works making 4 copies. So an extra $50 here or there becomes and extra $250. That being said I want to be fairly budget conscious but am able to spend a little on this. Thanks, Matt
