I doubt they would have to lower clocks. After some experimentation from myself and others, it seems the card is pumping out way too much voltage at stock clocks. Whether or not this is the entire issue, it is one of the biggest issues, so don't take it with absolute certainty that it's what's going on.

It also depends on the architecture behind the GPU as that's also important. Just like the number of CPU cores do not inherently matter. If the architecture is terrible, it will likely be terrible at almost everything. So when it comes to VR, rely heavily on reviews to see what kind of performance you can expect with the same, or similar setup. I cannot give you a definite answer because as I said, the architecture is very important. Generally speaking, more ROPs means better performance per the same architecture.

ROPs are a big part of video cards. If you look at for example the GTX 760 vs the 660 Ti. They use the exact same architecture, but the 760 is able to achieve better performance despite having less CUDA cores due to ROPs. The main area where more CUDA cores can matter is in compute heavy scenarios.

As far as the function is concerned, here is a quote from a website known as GPUReview:

Yeah, sure, let me take a look at your argument against AMD.

It boils down to something as simple as that AMD can not afford to make claims they can not back up, like a claim that they can provide a VR ready experience for everybody. I should also mention that VR ready does not simply mean "hey, you can run a game! not well, but you can run it!" AMD doesn't have the kind of fallback that larger companies like nVidia does, so outright lying about something or omitting huge details is not a plausible course of action. A lot of the things they say are fairly sincere and accurate because they need to be.

In general I don't think your argument has any merit, at least not regarding that example.

khothmod got a reaction from DocSwag in AMD Hints that rx 480 has gtx 980/r9 nano Level Performance
It looks like it's stuck behind power limits, and an 8-pin connector from an after-market card will probably fix that.

From the sounds of it, the reviewer cards were a bit messed up, with huge power draw issue, and some people are pointing to it being something to do with how the reviewers could freely switch between 4GB and 8GB.

The RX 480 is better in almost every review out there right now with the hotfixed drivers... Not to mention the GTX 970 is at the end of it's life and the RX 480 will still get years of support to come, especially with DX12 and Vulkan.

It's a bit cheaper, too, not to mention... Wait for aftermarket cards before buying though. There's no question about which is the better buy.

I guess I can agree with most of that. A lot of terminal illnesses don't even have proper medication, so it just makes it that much worse.

I still don't think that somebody who is depressed with no way out should be forced to live. Counseling should come first, of course, but if that doesn't work out and the guy who is suffering sees no happy days in sight, it's probably going to be nothing but suffering from there on out.

If you don't have any intentions of playing at 4k, you could go for it and be very fine... It obviously won't be as great or last as long in 1440p in the long run, but whatever you decide it's still a quite nice card...

I imagine the 1070 would OC better though, and it'll have better driver support for the next years. The "smart" choice would be to wait... Though it's not a big deal.

I find it extremely hypocritical that people say that "omg, how can you be so selfish to take your own life and not care about the feelings of others" when you're literally saying "I prioritize my feelings more than yours so I get to decide what is the moral value of your life"

That sort of moral high ground doesn't exist.

EDIT: I'm not advocating that people who are troubled should just end it but by no means am I the one who decides who gets to keep their life or not.

"Appropriate counselling" doesn't always do it... Simple as that. Even if it isn't a terminal illness. There's your first flaw in your argument.

I'm not even going to comment on why this is incredibly stupid.

That whole piece of argument of yours is EXTREMELY SELFISH. "oh, you're not allowed to end your life because i don't want you to, how inconsiderate of you!"

I don't think people who are suffering give a shit about your opinion on how cowardly they are... Pointless argument with no merit.

Sure, people will miss you. Then again, it's your life. I don't think you understand how painful it is to see OTHER PEOPLE in pain, and keeping them from ending that pain is just plain cruel. There's nothing else to it.

That's cool... People grieve when others die, some more than others. I doubt you'd know if how they died had something to do with it because he never died a different way.

Not everybody is able to just "get better" by speaking to someone. Especially the people who don't even have an issue mentally.

Okay, this is legitimately the dumbest fucking argument I have ever heard. You can't FEEL GOOD MENTALLY WHEN YOU ARE WRITHING IN PAIN 24/7... IT'S NOT A PAIN YOU CAN IGNORE EITHER, NO MATTER THE AMOUNT OF MEDICATION... Wanting to end the suffering has nothing to do with pride or with fear.
