  1. Thank you, I guess the benchmarks and recommendations I watched were somewhat different. https://bytexd.com/hardware/ddr5-dual-channel-or-single-channel/ *The Dual Channel DDR5 RAM is a sure-shot way to enhance your computer’s performance, provided you have a specific need. Only some applications will harness the benefits a Dual Channel DDR5 offers. For the time being, gaming isn’t one of them. .. and one of the videos I watched:
  2. That doesn´t really equate with the benchmarks I have seen thus far with 1 stick vs 2 sticks. DDR 4 has huge benefits in dual channel vs single channel, DDR 5 benchmarks (from what I have seen) don´t warrant a "sure 2 stick recommendation". On top of that the DDR 5 memory controllers seem to be very finnicky the more modules you add to the mix, so that leaves someone with a very tight budget to just buy a single 16 gb DDR memory module with the thought of upgrading at a later as a viable option. Thank you for the link, it´s the only time I have seen that mentioned and it still baffles me because it´s actually an important detail.
  3. Prior to buying my new system I of course checked various reviews on the various components, it was my first AMD system with a 7800x3d. Things have gone well, the system is rock solid and I got good post times, around 7 seconds with memory training on. I opted to run my RAM in EXPO 1 at 5600 instead of 6000 to avoid stability issues. Wasn´t planning on doing any major overclocking and happy with how things turned out. Did a few benchies which places my CPU as average among all other 7800x3d´s, happy with that. I can concentrate on gaming which I have done for the past few days with no glitches. I made a mistake though, at least I thought I did. I ordered 32 GB of RAM, I thought I had pressed the right buttons but must have messed up as my DDR 5 RAM came as a single stick, not two and that meant ... "no dual channel". Well, I checked on performance loss and found out that DDR 5 runs in dual channel natively, all of the benchmarks I saw (ddr 5 single vs two sticks) didn´t show much of a difference except for the 1% lows, so I am sticking with the single stick for now. What baffles me is that no one in all the reviews I saw about the different components never bothered to mention this, they all treat DDR 5 as DDR 4 and only show systems running with 2 sticks ... which I guess amounts to quad channel? ... not sure. Not a single review touched upon the possibility of just running with a single stick of RAM, I mean .. I can always get another 32 GB stick.
  4. Just checked out of curiosity the prices for the 1080 TI here in Denmark, they are still at a 1000 dollars each. Is it normal for retailers in most countries to refuse to lower the MSRP on non used but outdated GPUs? My guess would be that in Denmark these are probably sold to suckers who just don´t know any better, just curious about the worldwide practice.
  5. I put my PC to sleep always hearing a loud "click" and since I have no HDDs I am assuming it´s the PSU, the PC immediately wakes back up within the fraction of a second. On my second attempt I always succeed, it goes to sleep and stays asleep. It´s a fresh windows install on an ASUS Prime Z490p, 10600k, 3 ssd´s, 16 gb 3200 + a 850W Corsair PSU. Newly built for a 3080, still holding a GTX 1080. USB: Mouse, Keyboard and Logitech Webcam. Usually loaded: Battlenet, Epic, Steam, Coretemp and Windows misc stuff. Power set to performance with other sleep modes off, only one on. Powercfg- lastwake yields no results. All device drivers seem correctly installed, did an Intel device driver install as the only action upon building the rig.
  6. There it is, had to pull the fan out in the back and tidied up some cabling, basically two fans on top taking in air (supposed to) .... and 2 exhaust fans, radiator.
  7. Yeah, I have to redo my whole setup then, things aren´t looking right.
  8. I installed two fans on top of my case and they seem weirdly enough to be blowing air out, I assumed the arrow pointed the way of the airflow. When I put my hand to feel inside the case there is nothing to feel, plenty of fresh air coming out on top though.
  9. Ordered 3 fans to put on top of the case, once that is in place I can think about overclocking, right now the temps are fine. That also means rearranging the current fans to put the power cables right, other than that you are absolutely right, I simply didn´t consider the RAM. The vendor told me the parts suited perfectly but I should have known better, I guess I have always been lucky with cases as I have built perhaps around 30 rigs and never had a problem, it´s my first Fractal Design case though as I usually buy Thermaltake.
  10. I am putting 3 fans on top as intake, ordered them and will wait to play with things till they are installed, that´s also where the most accessible dust filter is which makes cleaning somewhat easier.
  11. No, that´s what I did at first but the GPU got in the way because of the "water cables" and had to turn it upside down, that´s why you are seen the power cables on top, I didn´t rearrange the fans before flipping it. That´s also why I have the logo upside down, didn´t want anything touching the RAM, in retrospect there is plenty of room but to me it really doesn´t matter. PS: If that whats you mean, that the "water cables-in English?" should be on the other end.
  12. 2. I know about the fan cables, that was the obvious newbie mistake but had to turn the radiator around and didn´t rearrange the fans, not an immediate problem, easy fix. 3. It´s a Corsair 850 W PSU but much more limited in cable management than my previous Corsair one, no idea why. Didn´t do any research on the PSU, was assuming it would be more of the same with an extra 100 W. Fewer cables included too and it wasn´t cheap. Will definitely go over some things, just bought it yesterday and the system ran on second try after plugging in the 8 pin power connector, forgot that the first time around. Yup, it has tempered glass. The biggest problem for me though was the lack of space for the radiator up top, that´s where it´s really supposed to go, everything would have been so much easier.
  13. I thought I had done my home work as I bought a Fractal Design Define 7 and paired it with an Asus Prime Z490 P mobo and a Corsair Hydro 115i, it was a hassle to get things set in. First off, there is very little space in the back for thick wires, my corsair PSU, Watercooler power plugs and other things needed a ton of space in the back which I found lacking, the backplate doesn´t "bend outwards" like my previous one and on top it has some sort of protective foam further narrowing the space allowed. The water cooler is thicker than I expected, it didn´t fit on top because of the RAM and the only place I could fit it was in front, the issue is that the front is totally closed up. The only possibility of decent airflow is on top of the case and that´s not an option. Temperatures are fine, 29 idle and 60 max while gaming but havn´t done any overclocking yet on the 10600k, need to find a better solution before I start messing with temps. Could of course just have the rig running with no front plate, looks silly but it´s one option. Think long before you buy a case .... not everything is as obvious as you might think.
  14. I am taking the "dumb" jump and getting the 3080 for my 4,8 ghz 6700K, will see how it goes and if I am "satisfied" I will just keep it, don´t mind a few slight bottlenecks here and there. Regardless the FPS will improve drastically from my 1080. Will probably post the results here about how things go and whether I really need a new rig for that 3080. I am actually looking forward to experimenting and seeing the results, I doubt a lot of people will do the same. I am at 1440p 244 mhz, so I am counting on the 3080 to do the heavy lifting ... the rest is up to my crossed fingers.
  15. From what I have read I suspect a 60-70% improvement over the equivalent of last gen. That should put the 3070 about 5% ahead of the 2080TI in non rtx. I would be satisfied with a 50% gain and happy with 60+
  16. You are right RejZor, thanks for the advice. Will be arranging my trip tomorrow.
  17. The 3600 is more of a side grade in gaming due to how well the 6700k overclocks and since my productivity is limited to writing emails the only gaming rig I would consider would be a 10600k and crossing fingers in regard to the lottery. My neighbour has a 3600 and it´s definitely not worth an upgrade but I am not allowed to play with it (overclocking), he says I am dangerous and his PC is too precious. My 6700K does a stable 5ghz but the noise problems above 4,5 ghz have kept me from further overclocks. When the fans start spinning it sounds like a freaking concert.
  18. Corsair 750W modular 6700K currently at 4,5 ghz. 1440p Acer 144 nsync display 32 gb ram 3200 4 TB in 4 Samsung EVOs I only game and currently own the 1080 which will be gifted to a friend of mine unless I really need a new rig in which case I might sell him the entire current rig for cheap. Hoping for 3 weeks vacation though and keeping the current rig, I game fine at 1440p without any CPU problems, in some games I would like to see a somewhat better performance though. I don´t mind a slight bottleneck and would of course be limited by the CPU, I know that. I am just hoping that the 3080 will take most of the burden at 1440p allowing me to keep my current rig. I am actually supposed to be booking my holiday the day after tomorrow, want to visit my mom in Portugal. Will it be a complete disaster to keep the 6700k or do you guys predict a fairly decent gaming experience? ... I know it´s just guessing but would like a few opinions.
  19. Thanks for the explanation, was never worried as lower temps can´t be bad :). Was just extremely curious about the whole thing.
  20. I use Prime 95 as the only tool to stress. At some point I did go into the bios to lower fan speeds due to noise problems, can´t remember when I did that but it was long time ago, probably when I still had the 1080, can´t remember checking for temperatures at that point but probably felt I had the headroom to do it. Lowering fan speeds shouldn´t result in lower temps though... but what do I know.
  21. Have no idea what you are talking about ... could be anything really, I thought there might be a simple explanation which didn´t occur to me.
  22. Nope, we are in fact having a very hot summer in Denmark and no air conditioning here, it was also hot when I bought it so I don´t think there is a lot of difference in that regard. Could of course be the software I am using which is Core Temp, can´t remember what I used back then. As for internal components, everything is the same except for the GPU as I mentioned. Sold my 1080.
  23. My 4,9 ghz 6700K was idling at 29 when I bought it, vividly remember it as I ran a lot of tests due to the fact that I used water cooling for the first time. The only time I opened the system was when the 2080 TI came out as I transitioned to 1440p, lately temps have been high though and I suspected it was time to open the rig and apply new thermal paste. It turned out to be one dust filled rig so I obviously began the process of cleaning the whole thing, took me a while but after checking temps I was astonished. It´s now idling at 26-27 and max 69 while gaming which is definitely lower than 5 years ago. So, saving myself the hassle of applying a new thermal paste I just closed the rig and it´s back in it´s usual place. Isn´t thermal paste supposed to degrade overtime? What on earth could cause the temps to actually go down? Nothing is new in the rig apart from the 2080TI (which isn´t that new anymore). PS: The above temps are without the overclock, with the overclock it still shows lower temps than originally. 37 idle and 85 max currently which is a couple of degrees lower.
  24. I sent my A70 back to Samsung after complaining about the lack of resolution options when it comes to using the 16:9 aspect ratio. The A series actually have no resolution options, those are built in to the 4 provided aspect ratios and these deliver 4x 8 megapixels at 4:3H while being limited to the lowest denominator on the other aspect ratios, 8 MP. All third party apps can´t recognize the 4x 8MP tetracell technology which is Samsung´s own invention, so I was stuck with 8 MP at 16:9 and pictures which were barely editable, any sort of attempt to zoom and crop produced far too grainy images. I noticed this being a common thing among other phones with the 4:3 having the highest resolution option. My 150 dollar Umidigi F1 does provide 12 MP at 16:9 giving pictures a few more pixels and better flexibility when it comes to corrections. It does however very poorly in low light conditions, so I do need a better smartphone camera. The 4:3 aspect ratio still has the best options on the Umidigi phone granting the 4:3 aspect ratio non binned 16 MP pictures. So, why is the only resolution I use so limited?
