antisleep got a reaction from Reality09 in New 4k gaming PC
If you're going with 4K I'd suggest you avoid any TN panel.
Monitor: Dell P2715Q 27.0" 60Hz Monitor ($465.00 @ Amazon)
+flexible adjustment, vesa mounts, plenty of connectivity
-6ms response time(6ms fast mode/8ms normal) hardly noticeable anyway unless you're into competitive FPS's
http://4k.com/monitor/dell-p2715q-review-27-inch-screen-ultra-hd-4k-led-lit-monitor/
Monitor: Acer S277HK wmidpp 27.0" 60Hz Monitor ($465.00 @ Amazon)
+4ms response time, unique aesthetics w/ offset stand, frameless
-limited adjustability and non-wall mountable

antisleep got a reaction from Paytend01 in $900 gaming rig...help!!
Here's a cheaper MicroATX i7-non OC build if you need the hyperthreading for productivity.
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/fz9pKZ
You can add a cpu cooler although it isn't necessary.
It's money wasted on the aesthetics. For ~$150 it's got no M.2 for SSD/USB 3.1 or Type C/WIFI, things you can find on the cheaper Gigabyte Z170N.

ATX i5-6600K / GTX 1060
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus Z170-E ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($92.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Mushkin Blackline 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($65.99 @ Newegg)

Power Supply: Corsair CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $880.91 ($929 w/o rebates)
If it's over budget, pick a cheaper case or buy the HDD later.
The motherboard choice isn't the best. The Z170 Stinger is like the SuperNovaNEX of motherboards. There are better ones that are cheaper or in the same price point that offer more features.

antisleep reacted to GhostWarrior in Rate my build
Really nice build dude but i went a little lower on the cpu and chose more quality parts for the rest as you can see but thanks again really nice build
-
antisleep reacted to Gnomo in upgrading for a friend 800€ budget
You will have to wait a few days since a new motherboard is needed as seen here:
I still remember it and hopefully with a new motherboard I can show you some pictures. (and if the EVGA 1070 finally arrives -.-' else you get pictures with the 670 still in it)

antisleep reacted to ARikozuM in How much could I sell my system for?
Not everyone wants to bother with making a system. It's called convenience and it's why you likely go to a supermarket for your food.

1. GTX 1060 and maybe a used 4690k
2. GTX 1070 and used 4790k

antisleep reacted to Randomsteve in Build check before I pull the trigger
Awesome well you have all been super cool and a great help. Gonna be a couple of days before I can start ordering parts but I feel much better about each part I am going to be ordering and am now very confident that this will be a pretty rockin computer once put together.
I've been tasked by the company I work for to build 2 office computers and I've got a pretty good idea of where I want to start but with how awesome this thread has been maybe I'll open up a new one and see what you guys have to say about that. Thanks again!
Edit: Oh and I'll post my final build link and mark this as solved once I get everything ordered just in case something changes in the mean time.

Newegg does a good job showing the features and specifications but I'd go directly to the manufacturer site to look up the complete details. The VRM heatsink, you'll be able to tell just by looking at the pictures.
I learned about the power power design from SR-71 Blackbird over at TomsHardware, man knows a lot of pc related shit:

-
antisleep got a reaction from Randomsteve in Build check before I pull the trigger
>Z170-A has sizable VRM heatsinks thus better at dissipating heat when overclocking, the sleek aesthetics is just a bonus.
You have ~$1400 budget, I don't really think the ~$20 difference is too much.
-
antisleep got a reaction from Randomsteve in Build check before I pull the trigger
The Asus Z170-E is a cut down version of the Z170-A with several less features and just ~$20 difference. I wouldn't even consider it since you're already choosing between 2 far better boards.
-
antisleep got a reaction from Randomsteve in Build check before I pull the trigger
You're right about convenience as it doesn't need SATA and power cable, you just directly plug it into the motherboard. But just because M.2 socket allows for faster speeds doesn't mean the M.2 version of the Sandisk X400 will be faster.
NVMe SSD's are the much faster ones but they're also much more expensive.

The Intel 600p Series ($180 for the 512GB) is a newly released low cost NVMe but I haven't seen any mainstream review sites recommend it yet.
http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Storage/Intel-SSD-600p-Series-256GB-Full-Review-Low-Cost-M2-NVMe/Conclusion-Pricing-and-Fina
I'd say just stick to the EVO.

PCPartPicker part list
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H5 Ultimate 76.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($46.99 @ Newegg)
^With this you can get a decent overclock, it is a larger heatsink though so it might interfere with the first ram slot so you have to put your ram sticks on the 2nd and 4th slots
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Ultra Gaming ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($160.72 @ B&H)
^The MSI Gaming M5 is usually around the $145-155 range, for $170 there better motherboards out there that offer more features like this one
^If you want to stick to $150, the Asus Z170-A is a great choice although it's black/white
Memory: G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($83.88 @ OutletPC)
^You can stick to the low profile corsair LPX's but I like this one for the slick aesthetics, also they're better at OC. It's not low profile so again so expect interference with the cpu cooler fan.
No. Might as well be an entirely different build plus an a non OC mobo.
-
antisleep got a reaction from Randomsteve in Build check before I pull the trigger
See if you can get that price down to $130-140. Yea the performance is comparable to the RX 480 but I'd only pay $150 for it if it's less than a year old.
Well the better option is his build. You made it worse.
>Silent ATX case to micro ATX, losing a lot of options for expansion in the future
>R9 290X depending on the model, might cause issues with clearance on a smaller case
>effin H170 mobo on a 6700K and 3000Mhz ram, are you aware of the differences vs Z170? this alone is why he should disregard your suggestion entirely
>nVME SSD is too expensive for something he likely won't be needing
>27" 1440p IPS to 24" 1080p 144Hz TN - like why would you change it to that?
>overall huge downgrade
-
antisleep got a reaction from Randomsteve in Build check before I pull the trigger
$150 for the 290x is still a good deal. Just see if you can negotiate for a slightly lower price as I've seen em on ebay go as low as ~$120. If you plan on gaming you may need to crank down the in game resolution to 1080p as I don't think you can maintain 60fps high settings on AAA titles with the 290x. If you want 1440p gaming, then get a 1070 or a used 980Ti.
The Cryorig H5 for ~$47 isn't that expensive considering the cooling it provides. When you decide to OC the 6700k, you can go up to around 4.4Ghz and maintain good temps with this cooler. Would highly recommend you get it over the Hyper 212EVO.

The Phanteks P400 is an equally well built case for half the cost. You would want two 140mm fans for the front. Check out some videos on it. It comes in black, white and grey.

It only has 2 SATA 3 connections but that should be okay as were looking for a NAS for mass storage.
