  1. Ok, so again thanks for your help so far. I've now completed both tests and the HDD passed them both. The SMART data also did not indicate any failures anywhere. I also tested on multiple positions in the case and the sounds persist, but only when using the HDD of course. I think my drive is fine and I haven't made up my mind yet if the sounds are RMA worthy.
  2. Thanks for your replies, currently running diagnostics in initial position in the case. The sounds were audible from 5~6 meters (only very slightly). When I ran the quick test (which it passed), the HDD made noise like it was an engine for a few seconds, after which a repeated clicking noise (different from initial noise) was audible through the case. What amazes me is that my case is silence oriented (be quiet! Silent Base 800 - Window). At the start of the longer test (currently running, the HDD also made a lot of noise, but it's now quiet and inaudible when my ear is next to it and the case is open. The drive seems to be working fine (no stuttering, 64 megabytes/second transfer speeds), other than the noise coming from it when installing games. Will update after longer test and after I have tested different positions inside the case. If the problem persists I will contact the supplier.
  3. Of course I didn't unplug it while it was running... I have a separate SSD with my OS, so I turned my pc off, unplugged the drive and rebooted. Noise was gone at that point. When my pc is using the drive and nothing else running in the background, the sound is audible from a few meters (5-6 meters).
  4. Hi everyone, I recently built my first pc. After the initial windows install, an audible ticking noise came from my case. I opened the case and disconnected the HDD (WD Black 2TB) and the noise was gone. It sounds like rain falling on a window and I was wondering if this sound is normal or if I should return the drive? The sounds only occur when the drive is used (e.g. installing games via steam). I did some research online and heard that WD blacks make noise, but I want to be certain. I also checked with the diagnostic tool from WD and it passed the test. 5. Laptop keyboard on a HP ZBook 15. Building my first system next week though, so I would love to get my hands on this keyboard.
