  1. There are two kinds of Windows licenses (at least as far as my knowledge goes). 1. Retail license. 2. OEM license (OEM = Original equipment manufacturer) With a Retail license, you pay the full box price (usually) and it's your license forever. Retail licenses are basically tied to your Microsoft account and anytime you assemble a new PC, or buy a pre-built PC, or buy any Windows device and you want to install a fresh instance of a genuine copy of Windows, you will be able to do so without worrying about the licensing issue. Once you start installing it will prompt you to enter the key that came with your purchase, or if you have already used it on another device, you can click on 'I don't have a key' and use the same Microsoft account that contains the key, to complete the process and start using it. With an OEM license, they are generally distributed to people who sell a fully-built PC (Like Dell, Lenovo, HP etc.). These are activated only once, and they are tied to the device you purchase. If in the future, you wish to buy a new device and want to install a genuine copy of Windows, the key that was part of your previous device cannot be used for your new device. For this reason, OEM keys are significantly cheaper compared to a retail copy. I hope whatever I have written is correct, but in case if it's not, please feel free to correct me.
  2. So Dbrand is potentially in legal trouble for their Darkplates. Here's the statement from Sony's lawyers There's a lot more that's mentioned but I have just extracted the key-points. Dbrand have an official announcement about this, on their official subreddit. The same has also been reported by The Verge. Potential WAN show content?
  3. Budget (including currency): 45-50,000INR (700$) Country: India Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom, Some proprietary video editing softwares available locally Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): What's not needed Monitor Other peripherals like mouse/keyboard etc. A friend of mine is a photographer and he is looking to upgrade his PC and he has asked me to help him. His only requirement is that he is able to comfortably edit images using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. He said he occasionally edits some videos but he's not too concerned about editing videos since he outsources it to someone else. WIth this in mind, can someone help me put up a decent build? I plan to order everything online due to the ongoing pandemic and for refernece, we have sites like primeabgb.com, the itdepot.com, mdcomputers.in and some other that I cannot recall right now.
  4. I will try this. Unfortunately, both the CPU as well as the motherboard no longer have their warranty coverage. If it doesn't work, then I guess I'll have to live with it until I can afford new parts.
  5. My system is about 4 years old now. System Specifications -------------------------------- Intel i7-6700k Maximus VIII Hero Dominator Platinum 16GB 3200mHz (2x8) RM650x PSU Samsung 256GB 850 PRO SSD Western Digital Black 2TB hard disk. I was using Cablemod's cables in my system until recently when I had to replace some of them since it wouldn't boot at all. After using the brand-supplied cables, the system wouldn't boot at all, with the usual 55 Q-Code error that people deal with. I thought there might be an issue with the CPU and re-seated it and it didn't work. Later, I tried putting the RAM sticks in different slots and again it didn't work. Finally, I tried with only one stick and lo, it booted and everything worked fine. However, when I try to insert the second stick in any of the 3 available slots, the system doesn't post. I have no idea why this is happening and it's really freaking me out. Can anyone help me out with this problem?
  6. I suspect it must the bearing noise. I once removed all the parts and completely reassembled it, to see if any wires were possibly obstructing the fan blades. But that didn't help.
  7. I have an NZXT H440 case that I bought in 2016. Of late, it has become increasingly hard to boot the system using the power button. I have to remove the top panel and then use something pointy to power it on. Also, in order to (not)create a separate thread, I am also looking for possible solutions related to case fans. A case fan or two keeps rattling and it has turned quite noisy too. Is it time to replace it? The case is out of warranty and I am looking for some assistance as to how I can solve these issues. Has anyone else experienced the same?
  8. Just signed up for PIA after facing frequent connection issues with NordVPN. I didn't get any discount at PIA, but signed up for a 1 year plan to evaluate it and then decide on it. I have been given a 30$ upgrade to a 2-year subscription, but let's see! ?
  9. 6700k is like 450$ here. And the Z170A is around 200$. RAMs are around 100$ a stick(16GB). Fractal design don't market cases here in my country. 500w and 600w PSUs are costing the same here. Around 60$.
  10. Hello all, A bit new to the forum. So my story goes: My dad is a professional photographer. About some days back, his computer motherboard malfunctioned and GIGABYTE didn't really care about it. So I sold off the remaining parts to put forward a new DDR4 build for him. I am just left here with opting for a CPU, motherboard, RAM and PSU along with the case. I do have some components that I bought for my planned build, but since it's a priority to get his system back on and running, whatever I had so far would be moved to his build. Location: Bangalore, KA India Currency format: INR(Indian rupees) Budget? 50,000₹ (US$= approx. 750$) What do I already have: Corsair H110i GTX Samsung 850 PRO 256GB WD 2TB Black Asus 24D3ST DVD-writer Asus strix GTX 980(will move it to his build due to poor re-sale value here) Dell Utrasharp U2715H display. What I need: An Intel CPU Compatible motherboard RAMs Power supply Cabinet Forgot to mention: He only makes use of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop along with Adobe reader and photo ninja. Except that there's Microsoft Office suite along with Nero for burning DVDs if required and nothing else. Apart from that, nothing that he makes use of. I already have a display and other peripherals. So whatever budget that's mentioned would be spent only for the required components. What I can tell you, is that we can import parts from the USA except the case(pref. BH or Amazon). I just want the best choices of components for 750$. If I have to import parts from the USA, I would definitely prefer Corsair for RAMs and PSU since they offer international warranty I heard. Correct me if am wrong.
