MedievalMatt got a reaction from TrumpyAl in Aquacomputer Temperature Setpoint is a game changer for watercooling.
So a little while back I made the switch to a full custom water setup.  Complete with Aquacomputer Octos (more than 1), an Aquaero, a Flow meter, and a Ultitube with Leakshield.  With this setup came my ability to measure fluid temp via special fittings at various points.  Fast forward 6 months of settings tweaks and Ive discovered the temperature setpoint feature.

What this does is operate essentially like a thermostat in a car.  Basically as the fluid goes above the setpoint it will ramp up the fans to keep the fluid at the target temp.

So my system now is a Ryzen 9 5900X with the PBO limits removed so its full turbo all the time under load along with a Hydro Copper RTX 3080ti.  Cooled with 2 - 360mm, 2 480mm, and 1 - 120mm rads.  The way i have it setup now is the system is totally passive until the fluid hits the setpoint which, for me, is 40C.  This gives me roughly 20-40 minutes of system on time before the fans even start up.  After this they idle at 200-300 RPM which for 15 Noctua NF-F12s is silent.

When you load up a game naturally the fluid will heat up, but the fans will also ramp up (slowly) to keep the temp of the fluid at 40C.  What does this mean for CPU/GPU temps you may ask.  Well.... My 3080ti typically runs at 65C on the hotspot, 55c on the memory and core.  and the 5900X being the toasty boi it is can spike up to 75C but normally chills at 65C.

Why keep the fluid so warm you may ask as I could set the setpoint to 35 or 30C and have a much cooler system.  For me the answer is simply noise.  I want my computer silent when Im watching movies or playing light games/working.  But its ok for it to make some noise while gaming.

The most demanding game I can think of recently playing is Cyberpunk 2077.  The fans reached 1K RPM (1200 is the peak) and still I barely noticed because the ramp up is so gradual.  I only notice my fans now after I stop gaming.  Because they take so long to get to steady state they get lost in the noise floor.

Its also worth pointing out that the temp setpoint is built in functionality on the Octo, and the Aquaero.  So you could use this for air cooling, though I dont think it would be that much of a game changer.  Finally, you can also use the temp setpoint to control pump speed, and I do.  My setpoint for the pump is 42C.  So on the rare occasion where I swap games and the fluid temp swings to fast for the normal fan ramp to keep up the pump can help spread the heat more evenly.  Other than that I dont see a difference running it at 100% vs. idle all the time, so it runs at idle.

    Loved the EVGA video!

Let me know if you want to play around with a 275 Co-Op sometime.  I have one in my collection (and a 275 that can work with it in SLI if you want to spend time messing with drivers to use SLI + PhysX).  I also have one of the GeForce4 Ti 4600 with the ACS2 coolers.  Along with about 70 other EVGA GPUs...

I have one of the Interview dual 17" in too.  It was fun to play with, but, ya, bad video quality by today's standards.  They seemed to be coming out with some business related products at the time and some were pretty interesting.  They had a line of PCOIP products (kind of like a remote KVM) that were pretty neat.  They had host cards that would slot into a PCIe slot and you would run the GPU output to it (for display), USB devices, sound and even configure for WOL or wire in they physical power switch for remote power control.  On the other end they had "thin client" receiver boxes that could plug into a monitor (or even the 17" Interview).  They were powered by Teradici, which was eventually bought out by HP.

I recently completed a similar EVGA tribute build in a DG-85.  Fun build, but, that case is HUGE.  I even dropped in similar random accessories like EVGA DDR4, a PCOIP host cord (for fun, removed it later), an EVGA Killer NIC (remember those?)  And of course an EVGA motherboard (x299 Dark) and 3090 Ti Kingpin.  Check it out: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4vCQqR

Their legacy certainly won't be forgotten.

Perhaps i could have phrased that better.  To be more verbose, and therefore accurate I will rephrase.

In my own testing and daily use I have found ESDF to be more performant for me than WASD.  It is therefore my opinion that ESDF is superior based on objective testing and data analysis.

All that being said, i think its possible to have an opinion which is backed up by objective data and have that opinion be that something is better/worse.  That opinion, being based on objective data, can be that something in objectively better/worse.  Being an opinion leaves open the possibility that it is incorrect, and that others have the ability to disagree.  Objectivity in this context implies that there is no subjective data taken into the opinion.

While that is, of course, impossible to do.  We are all biased in our own subconscious ways.  I still feel like what i said is valid.  Also its a figure of speech I used and so some level of abstraction is warranted.

Got way off topic there, lol.

MedievalMatt got a reaction from William Isted in Madison reveals experiences working at LMG
Even if a vast majority of the allegations and alleged experiences Maddison claims are exaggerated or made up entirely.  There is most likely a kernel of truth here.

Im not going to judge one way or the other if what she says is true, we simply dont and cant know what is valid at this point.

Perhaps everything Maddison says is 100% true and actually did happen in the way they claim.  Perhaps its all false.  The reality is its likely somewhere in between and there are many points of view to consider.  Something one person might find highly offensive and would make for a hostile environment is not the same for others, and there is also an element of potential exaggeration to include.

Im not defending LMG, but im also not going to immediately hate spam them.  Same goes for Maddison.  We need to let this play out and hear both sides if possible and make an informed judgement instead of bandwagoning one way or another.  Somewhere, somehow, someone has proof one way or another and we should be champion for that proof to come out and the truth to be known.

To be fair.  It is "cool" in the sense that it makes assembly easier and just the overall system less mechanically complex.  You cant have your front panel header come unplugged if its part of the mainboard.

My stance is on the side of this being something dell shouldnt do.  But i can see why Dell did what they did and i can see where they were coming from and it is, to me, kinda nifty.

There is also the matter that a lot of what GN called out are factual errors.  And so "reaching out" would likely have been met with "yep, those are errors alright"

On the billet labs thing, again, that was factual information and there was no direct opinion drawn other than to say the facts dont look great.

If there were opinions and conclusions being derived by Steve then, yes, he should have reached out first.  But that wasnt what took place.  "Hey, your graph is fucked up" doesnt need LMG to comment... it simply...is....

Billet labs, again, maybe could have been a place where LMG should have been contacted, but all Steve did was shine a light on what happened and say "IDK yall, seems sus".
