  1. I had not seen that. That’s a very interesting article. I’ll have to dig into that later tonight. Thank you for sending it my way.
  2. @brob @Jeppes Respectfully, I think you both missed the point of my question. I don’t want to be on the bleeding edge of this generation. I don’t need that much power, and I can get a more than perfectly good system to suit my needs, that is proven to run stable, at a much cheaper price. Granted, I think my question was answered in reading the article you shared jeppes. Thank you for sharing that. That does still leave my second question regarding GPU’s. Anyone have any ideas?
  3. Budget (including currency): N/A Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Single player action and role playing games as well as some shooters. I will also be using this as a development machine to run lots of UE4 and eventually 5 as well as Unity. Other details Hello! I am currently working on putting together a list of parts to start putting together for my next pc. It’s been about 5 years since I built my first one, and I decided it was time for an upgrade. I had some questions about picking a processor and GPU and I was hoping some people would be able to help me make a decision. Question 1: My current PC has an 8700k and a gtx 1080. I have always been a self labeled Intel guy because I had some issues with AMD years ago with some of their laptop processors. However, after hearing lots of good stuff about ryzen, and seeing how well it performs, I was hoping to see if anyone had any opinions on the viability of a Ryzen 5800X3D over something like the I7 12700K. One of the biggest reasons I am considering the Ryzen chip is to help out running Unreal Engine and making that a bit snappier. Anyone that has knowledge of this, does having more cores over faster single cores help out with UE’s performance in a noticeable way? I have also entertained the idea of waiting for the next version of the X3D chip, but I’m also skeptical of staying that far on the bleeding edge. I love new tech, but I also cherish my stability and wallet. Question 2: With GPU prices being in the state they are in, and the new power delivery standard coming with 40 series as well as potential rumored issues, I’m leaning towards use a 30 series card. From what I can see, I think they will have more than enough power for what I want to do currently. I have both a 4k and 1440p monitor, and Ill use either depending on if I can get a locked 60 fps on 4k. I have done a rough pass at evaluating performance between the 3080 ti and 3090 ti and I cant decide if the performance is worth the extra couple hundred bucks. It doesn’t seem like a ton of benefit for the money, but it seems to vary from game to game and neither seem to be able to run cyberpunk at 4k 60 from what I have seen, so that will remain a pipe dream for me. Here’s is a “current” list of parts I am considering getting. the power supply is also not totally concrete. That will depend a lot on what GPU I end up getting. If I go with a 3080 ti, I will probably drop it down a few watts. Thanks in advance for all the advice. Parts List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TF3Jqm
  4. So, I just finished my first pc build and I have it up and running and am working on getting all of the needed drivers and software installed. I built my rig in the Phanteks p400s and it came with a led strip that I am currently trying to figure out how to connect to the motherboard. I cant tell if I need an adapter or if it should plug straight into the motherboard header. Thanks for any help you can provide. Ethan
  5. I'm working on getting all of the parts for my first gaming PC and with a little bit of help I decided on the i7 8700k. Now, I plan on overclocking it but I don't know what cooler to use. I've heard cases for air and for water but I don't know which to use. I will be building inside the Phanteks p400s and it supports coolers up to 160 mm. My first thought was to use the Noctua NH-D14 but it looks awful. Are there any other coolers that can keep my CPU nice and chilly while still being relatively quiet. Im not going to be trying to squeeze every last drop of performance out of my CPU but if I'm going to pay for the unlocked version I would like to be able to make the most out of it. Thanks for that help
  6. If I ended up going with the 8700k would the cryorig H5 be able to cool it enough for some overclocking? I'm not looking to squeeze every last drop of power out of the chip but I would like to be able to get a decent bit extra out of it if I choose to spend the extra money on the new cpu.
  7. I am looking to build my first PC in the next couple weeks. With Black Friday upon us, I figured there would be no better time to jump into the PC master race as they call it. My goal is mainly gaming but I am pursuing a degree in computer science so I want it to be powerful enough to handle any project I might have to do while also killing any game I throw at it. here is my build so far: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BvvCjc There are a couple components that I am unsure on. first off the ram- I have 2 sets of ram listed because I like the look of the G-Skills set better but if the performance is worth it I will go with the Corsair set instead. From my understanding, the performance boost isn't guaranteed and overclocking ram can be quite tricky. Second, the CPU cooler. Is water the best way to go? I've heard that I can get about the same performance out of an air cooler for less with a little bit more noise. The case is another area that I am unfamiliar with should I get a more expensive case or stick with the one I have? I liked this one because it is inexpensive and it had all the features I was looking for. Thanks for all the help. Edit: I am also in need of some help picking out a monitor. I would like to be able to do 1440p at 144hz, but that may be unachievable with a 1080. Would getting a G-Sync monitor help with this seeing as how it could change refresh rates if the 1080 couldn't quite meet the 144hz?
  8. I am also going to be using the I5-6500. If I got the 1070, would the cpu be a bottleneck
  9. Either way I will be waiting, idk where to even find an msi gtx 1070 for around $380. If any one knows where to find them in stock let me know
  10. I am wanting to build my first pc, and trying to pic a GPU for my build is painstaking. All I want to do is play almost any game I want (with a couple of exceptions, Im looking at you crysis) at 1080p, at high to ultra, with 60 fps a minimum. Im not wanting to push 4k or anything fancy like that. I just want to play the games I want to and have them look pretty. My original plan was to get a strix 970, but then someone suggested the AMD rx 480. someone also suggested a gtx 1070 for a little future proofness, is a 1070 overkill? I am just trying to get the right card for me. Thanks for any input you can give!
  11. ok thanks. my thoughts were that later I could also add a second 480 down the line and still end up roughly at the cost of a 1070, with the rumored preformance of a 1080.
  12. ok thanks how does this look, are there anythings I could cut the price down and put more into a gpu with out sacrificing preformance? http://pcpartpicker.com/list/p4BdCy
  13. ok thanks. what gpu would be appropriate for what I need?
