  1. You should tell him that it's safer than browsing the web--that you won't even have a browser on it after you install FAH, and that there is nearly 100% transparency in their process. Who doesn't like a boomer who thinks they know everything?
  2. Yes. you're right. Odd that I can't get a work unit even if the server is full...
  3. Hey yall, Is there any way to see which work servers have stuff in them currently? I remember there used to be a way but it's been a while since I've done any folding and I really just can't figure it out at the moment. Thanks!
  4. check to see if some system program is blocking it for some reason, like an antivirus or something? I think with the big mining craze a lot of antivirus software started blocking programs that were asking for lots of compute resources. Just a hunch
  5. Hey guys, It's been a really long time since I've done any folding, and COVID has convinced me to get back into it! Right now I'm just running it on my laptop, but I'm going to try to get my desktop shipped back from college soon so I'll be able to use that as well. I remember last time I would have issues getting any kind of work units to the GPUs for whatever reason--they wouldn't update unless I uninstalled and reinstalled the client. Anyway, when I downloaded the client the GPU got a unit right away and the CPU has gotten nothing recently. I was wondering why that was the case? Are the servers with projects waiting to be completed just empty? Is there any way for me to check on that? Thanks in advance!
  6. yeah I pretty much sold my soul to Newegg
  7. Ah, I should have elaborated. I first built this system a while ago. When I built it the specs were as follows: 5930-k 2X GTX 980ti (MSI) MSI X99 Gaming S ATX motherboard DEEPCOOL 360mm AIO Rosewill THOR v2 case EVGA 850 watt Gold PSU G.SKILL DDR4 ram, 16 GB 500 gb Samsung Evo SSD 2X WD blue 2 TB drives WHEN I BUILT IT most of these products were brand new, so I was paying early adopter's tax on pretty much everything but the PSU and the case. With tax and shipping I remember it being around $5800. So you're right, not $6k, but pretty damn close.
  8. I was able to finally taking a good picture of my first rig. I'm running a i7-5930-k, a GTX 1080, (upgraded from 2x 980ti). I have two KEF C35 speakers, a JBL sub, and a 34 inch curved samsung monitor. The other system has a 6700-k, and a 980
  9. I love the amazon affiliate code builds, but I'd like to see what people are returning... what PC components don't make the cut once they've been installed, and which ones break the most? I think this would be really good viewer information.
  10. Yeah, I think that should work. All the voltages of the internal components are standard globally, so I don't see how parts from another country wouldn't work. Also, lots of times devices have a little switch that changes the circuity from 120 to 240 volts. You might be able to find one of those from the US as well.
  11. okay, here's what I've got: X2 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822235128&ignorebbr=1 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125880&ignorebbr=1 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139204&ignorebbr=1 X2 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232391&ignorebbr=1 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132901&ignorebbr=1 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117647&ignorebbr=1 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181103&ignorebbr=1 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W05800631&ignorebbr=1 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139060&ignorebbr=1 For a total of $3816.07 at the time of posting. This will be more than enough for what you need, and you'll be able to upgrade the heck out of it in the future if you need. Keep in mind this will be MORE THAN ENOUGH. If you don't WANT to spend four grand, ask me and we can tone it down a bit. Also if you live in the SF Bay area I'm happy to help you build it.
  12. I love MSI stuff, don't get me wrong, but I think a SFF board would be better here. Also the MSI board looks kinda crummy...
  13. Yes, the ram should work. I'd get the second board.
