  1. yeah, yeah, I know. 1st things 1st, gotta get my server rebuild done..
  2. Well, was all prepared to update overnight and got the dreaded error message for "invalid file.....flxr.meta. I'm guessing I'm gonna have to rebuild the array. Shame cause the pool works fine, 11 TB of data used on a 12TB pool.
  3. That is one nice system you got there andi!
  4. No worries about the recycle bin. Good thing about this being a software RAID I can start from scratch without worrying about losing any data. I got a feeling copy and pasting Terabytes of data would take quite a while. As I'm still in trial and error mode, I tried this: Stopped the pool, assigned 1 drive a letter in Disk Mgmt, renamed the affected folders, removed the drive letter, double checked the pool in Drive Manager, then restarted the pool. All the BDs are now in 1 folder, and all the MKV's are in 1 folder. My music was already on 1 hard drive so no worries there. My plan is to do an update overnight and hopefully the parity info will have reflected the changes. Next challenge: I ran into the issue of the default folders needed to be reconstructed, now I need to figure out how to (without copy/pasting) use my existing default folders as the ones the dashboard sees. Fun times... :D
  5. Ok, thanks to this excellent guide, I followed your steps and setup a 12TB FlexRAID storage pool. I forgot to turn off Recycle Bin but not a big deal as I'm ok with rebuilding the array from scratch. It took a while but I just let it run overnight and all was well. Had a question though: (and please let me know if this should be posted in another section) I didn't really prep the folder structures before hand, so my pool isn't set up ideally. Prior to the setting up the pool, i had several folders across multiple disks with the same kind of content. (example: 5 folders with BD rips - BD1, BD2, BD3, BD4, BD3D. It appears that if, prior to setting up the pool, I renamed each to BD the storage pool would have been built with files from all 5 folders under BD. Is this correct? If so, is there any way to do this after setting up the pool, without any movement of files? My 1st thought was I can remove the drives, rename each folder to BD, then add the files back, but I'm not sure this is doable without recreating the entire array. Tony
  6. eh, it's more of an experiment than any thing else. I've seen mixed reviews here and there but i'm just going by how fast my boot times are in my other devices - PC, laptop, tablet. - after using SSD. I've got an SSD I'm not using so I figure I'd give it a shot. It is slow as hell when remoting in, and booting up, but I never have any issues accessing files over Samba.
  7. Yeah, yeah, I know. It's on the list of things to do. My replacement just arrived today so I'm about to do some housecleaning. Just trying to figure whether to clone my OS to an SSD or start from scratch. May as well clean up while I'm at it.
  8. Ok, I'm getting ready to put my WHS OS on a 256GB SSD. It's currently running on a 1TB hard drive (C partitioned for 60GB, the rest partitioned as D.) As part of the move - or in conjunction with it - I'd like to begin using FlexRAID. My queston is: Which option is better: Doing a fresh install of WHS. This means I would have to also install all the apps/services as well as updates from MS Cloning the 60GB partion to the SSD and just use the 1TB as another data drive (currently have 18TB total across 10 drives) Option 1 seems to be the longer of the 2 but it results in a nice new shiny OS. Like most things, new just seems to run better. My build is currently running pretty smooth and has been tweaked just the way I like it, so a new install means retweaking. Option 2 seams to be the quickest, but I don't know if it'll go as smooth as a new install. Again, the system runs pretty good as is, I'm just looking for speed improvements (using RDP, Dashboard, other admin stuff) Any insight is greatly appreciated. Tony
  9. Thanks L.E.D. That post is actually what led me to this thread/site. I noticed this thread in the OPs signature and figured I'd chime in. Currently waiting on a replacement for my 3TB that died, which is what led me to look into FlexRaid, which is how I got here. Tony
  10. Here's my setup. 18TB. A work in progress. Hardware CASE: Cooler Master CM 690 PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro M600 MB: Gigabyte GA-945GCM-S2C CPU: Intel Core 2 E4500 HS: Stock heatsink RAM: 4GB DDR2 667 RAID CARD 1: SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 SSD: Corsair Nuetron 256GB SSD (soon to be installed) HDD 1: 1x 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 HDD 2: 2x 2TB Seagate ST2000DL003 HDD 3: 2x 2TB Seagate ST32000542AS HDD 4: 2x 2TB WD WDC WD20EADS HDD 5: 1x 1TB WD WDC WD10EACS HDD 6: 2x 1TB Seagate ST31000528AS Software and Configuration: Currently running WHS2011. Docs, pics and music are the only data backed up to another PC. 8 Drives on Raid Card, 2 on MB I am planning to convert to flexraid, just doing some research before pulling the trigger. Also plan to replace 1TD HDD used for OS to a 256GB Raid Usage: Primary usage is data storage. Data includes BD Rips, MKVs, Photos (Raw and JPEG), and Music (mp3 and flac) Several media players connected via network (PCH x2, Dune, laptops) Subsonic used for remote access to music and some small video files Remote Access to all PCs Backup: Critical data copied on another PC. PC and Server Backups via WHS Additional info: Photo's:
