I just tried it using z170 pro gaming with 6700k cup and GTX 1080 FE. Both running at pice 3.0 and card's fan set at 100% to eliminate different gpu boost.
I hate to beat a dead horse, but I'm reallllly curious about the effects of PCIe(3.0) x8 with the gtx1080. The Z170 with skylake gives a max of 20(16+4) PCIe lanes. I would like to use two m.2 ssds in raid 0 (uses 8 lanes), however that forces the gtx 1080 into x8 mode. I've scoured the interwebs for benchmarks with the 1080 in a x8 and have not been able to find it. I'm aware of benchmarks for titan and 980ti, but neither of these can clear the 8gb/sec, but the 1080 in theory, can.
I would be extremely grateful if anyone here is able to show a comparison for x8 vs x16 with the gtx 1080.
