I just recently built a new PC as well, I went with an i5-8400 and an EVGA GTX 1060 SSC https://pcpartpicker.com/product/KqRFf7/evga-geforce-gtx-1060-3gb-ssc-gaming-video-card-06g-p4-6264-kr. I cant say anything bad about the card so far, I haven't had any problems, it runs relatively cool under load around 75C-78C playing games on High/Ultra after some fan profile tweaking. I feel like this card is somewhat under rated in the PC community (just my opinion) I play AAA titles 1080p and easily push over 100 FPS at basically all times. I paired with a 144hz monitor the games look/feel amazing and I couldnt be happier with my choice.
If you dont want your budget to exceed $1500 than do exactly what Jeezy said, get a cheaper mouse, keyboard, or headset. A 1070 or 1080 is a must, youd be dumb to get a 900 series at this point, especially a 960
