  1. ****UPDATE**** Sorry for the late reply. IRL things... I’m adding some photos and further information. I’ve found what I’m pretty sure is the LCD cable: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32951473776.html It says LVDS and the numbers seem to match. MY cable for reference: I’ve included a blowup of a 30 and 40 pin connector. My eyes aren’t the best but i’m 99% sure the back of MY screen panel is 30 pins. You’ll notice the 30 pin connector has 2 small divots on each side, my screen 100% has those. The 40 pin connector has either “T-PEZ or I-PEZ” written on the brass while mine has “I-PEX”. I’ve also found a screen with the matching part number as my original: http://www.panelook.com/N156BGA-EB2_Innolux_15.6_LCM_overview_28556.html It says eDP 30 pin 1 lane. *My Original screen for reference: IF so I THINK i’ve found a 1080p model? http://www.panelook.com/N156HCA-EBA_Innolux_15.6_LCM_overview_28923.html It’s also eDP 30 pin 1 lane. Maybe I can see something by removing the whole rear of the laptop in hopes of more information on exactly what cable is used. Perhaps more photos to come.
  2. Thanks for the reply. Out of curiosity... any reason why it wouldn't? I know an identical skew of the Acer Aspire A315-51-35FR exists with the only difference I can see being the 1080 screen (ie. same CPU, screen size mounting). Do I need any double sided super adhesive tape or anything?
  3. Hi, Long story short... A family member cracked the screen on my Acer Aspire A315-51-35FR laptop. https://www.newegg.ca/black-acer-aspire-a315-51-35fr-everyday-value/p/N82E16834316459?Item=N82E16834316459 I think i've found some replacements for the 15.6'' 1366 x 768 display?? https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Acer/ASPIRE~3~A315-51~SERIES/ Should I get the Matte or Glossy finish? I see an option for a FHD (1920x1080) screen over the 1366 x 768, should I upgrade to 1080? Any advice would be great.
  4. Thanks for the replies so far. Starting to get an idea of the direction but will wait to see more suggestions.... as well as Black Friday / Cyber Monday. Might get lucky and be able to work in a decent upgrade over the suggestions for the budget.
  5. As many of us are aware, X-mas is on the way so I spoke to the rest of the family to see if Olé’ St. Nick would be interested in collecting some funds from the whole family, combining it and getting a DESPERATLY needed PC for my aunt, uncle and cousin who is age 11. Needless to say their current PC is from the dark ages as I’m sure you would agree when I tell you it runs on Windows 98 and clearly needs an upgrade. Hoping to get some holiday spirit going and make this little mans x-mas the best he’s ever had!! Keep in mind they are down on their finances and would never be able to afford this on their own. SO here’s the plan… I hope anyway it’s a daunting task at the price point but I’m sure you guys will have some GREAT suggestions. I’m hoping we can turn this little baby into a “jack of all trades” What I mean by that is: a) it should be able to game. CLEARLY I’m not looking at any ultra-settings or anything. But if it could pull off low – medium settings on most new...ish games I’m sure that’ll be fine. My cousin is big into minecraft so I’m sure it’ll be huge for him when he can play it on his own PC. B) I’d also like to have this PC act as a home theater system, both streaming as well as acting as a capture card. c) I’d also like to set this up as an emulator for him so he can run all the games from the old platforms. I hear there is also a new 1 out for the Wii. Everyone always has a blast when they play it at our place. d) I want to try to make it as “future proof” as possible on the components that will last multiple builds (I.e.: Computer case, power supply, etc.) As well as having the PC last a few years Our hard cash limit is about $400; we can perhaps go up to $500 as I’ve been scheming on how I can get them to also pitch in on something for around $100. I know $500 is tight…. Let alone $400 for what I sort of had planned. I’m hoping you ladies and gents can help me out a bit here on what parts to buy. I recently built my first PC about 8 months ago, but when it comes to the mid-low end of the market I’m just not up on it at all. Intel / AMD / Nvidia. It doesn't matter, just want the best bang for the buck and a system that'll last a few years. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THIS IS IN CANADIAN $$$ I’ll make a component list and you guys can just copy / paste and fill in the parts I’ve left out which are the things I have. CPU: CPU Cooler: Motherboard: Ram: PSU: Case: ROM Drives: I have a CD/ CD-R / HDVD / HDVD-R Peripherals: I have a set of un-used wired and wireless key / mouse Screen: Sync Master 570V 15" TFT LCD Display @ 1024x768 max pixel resolution SSD: Is it worth getting a small one to act as a boot drive? HDD: I have two 360GB WD’s Video Card: Capture card: Please feel free to give any and all suggestions. I’ll LIKELY make the purchase during the Black Friday / Cyber Monday sales. Thanks in advance. Sorry it’s a bit long; I kind of got carried away as I’m very excited for him.
  6. Hope it's not too late! I use my SSD for the speed and use two 2 TB WD greens for storage and video editing. If I was to get a few more reds it would work great to have a reliable raid setup so I wouldn't lose any data! 7. I’d like to apologize for taking so much time to respond. Unfortunately I have some health issues that limit what I can do in a day. Also like to take the time to thank everyone for suggestions. Some small updates are: a) I removed the SSD out of the equation. It’s not hooked up in any way. Instead I used a Hard drive, to which I have plugged into another MUCH older PC and through DISK Manager and formatted the Hard drive (NOT the SSD) using the most number of passes and as deep scan possible. I concluded that the HDD was completely clean. I have a clean copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, which I managed to install. Seems I still have the same issue whenever I try to play any games. Fairly sure he SSD is not the culprit… BUT I still need to fix this (comes up as “Unconfigured” deal). I had a very strange idea that… perhaps my drivers weren’t…. installing properly? This leaves a few things: 1) It’s an issue with the Intel i5-3570K 2) Issue with the Motherboard 3) Issue with the Ram I’m still waiting from replies from all the manufactures involved. I have a few things up my sleeve yet. I’m hoping I can scrounge together some close friends who have: 1.An Intel Ivy Bridge CPU that we can switch. 2. A Z77 Motherboard + the RAM 3. A video card, Strong enough that games are playable So we can turn the HD 4000’s off I have a VERY bad 1 on this PC ( 3 cheers for Q6600 ) I have an old as the hills NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT…. Hoping it’s enough to at least get the game “playable” instead of locking it up. Process of elimination should help out a lot. @ Scia / @SpamBrie / the rest (LAATE here) you’ll have my answers to your questions later this evening if all goes well.
  8. Hello J First I’ll apologize in advance as this will be a long read, I think it’s important to give as much information as possible when troubleshooting / running diagnostics. Second. Please understand that when it comes to computers I am for the most part drowning in ignorance. Most things you see as common sense I struggle to comprehend so I ask your patients when you try to explain them to me. As I mention below this is the first computer I have ever built. My PC consists of the following: CPU: Intel i5 3570K ivy-bridge Motherboard: Asus P8Z77–V Deluxe Ram: SAMSUNG 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model MV-3V4G3D/US PSU: Corsair AX 750 SSD: 2.5’’ Crucial M4 128GB HDD: 2TB Western Digital Greens x 2 (storage) Video Card: Is in progress. I wanted to see what the next generation would bring… So I am running the onboard Intel HD 4000 Graphics. (Ran the programs with no issues prior.) I got the chance to build my first PC about a year ago and all was fine. Fast forward about 6 months and all of a sudden whenever I try to play a game, (Path of Exile, Atlantica Online, Diablo 2, Metro 2033, list goes on). I have, until then ran them all in the past with ZERO issues. Now a few things happen: a) the game loads to a certain point, generally to or right before you would log in, so I’m assuming right after the cinematics. At which point the PC locks up and becomes unresponsive in any way causing me to restart. b ) IF I’m lucky… I am able to get it to restart and able to try to open the game again I usually get a message telling me the game version is invalid forcing a re-install. c) If I’m unlucky Windows will not load and I will get a blue error screen that comes up MUCH faster than I am able to read which causes to PC to restart and continue its cycle. Being for the most part Ignorant when it comes to computers… I came to the assumption that it was a virus! So I ran every single scanner I could think of (AVG, windows security essentials, Kaspersky, etc.) NOTHING shows up. At this point I need to assume they are right and try to find another answer. After I restarted the PC a few times something caught my eye! My SSD! I noticed when my Pc was going through its check my SSD now comes up as “Unconfigured” I am 110% sure that it had not before. The only information I have found relating to that was a rumor that Crucial M4 SSD’s should be plugged into the light blue / white SATA ports over the dark blue “SSD Cashing” ones. I’ve tried all 8 SATA ports with no change. To me I can only see 3 culprits: a) The SSD is not working properly and will need a RMA. b )An issue with the Motherboard… Either the SATA ports (unlikely all) or an issue with the chipset. Would like to test but do not know where to begin. c) My CPU. The only reasoning behind this is the fact that I opted to stick with the onboard HD 4000. I would like to test this but unsure the program, what to look for exactly… and what exact settings I would need on the program to run the diagnostics. d/e) the only other options would be my RAM and PSU. I ran… MeMTest and nothing came up. I am waiting on a reply from all of them. I am grateful for any help or suggestions you can give me. Thanks in advance, Val
