  1. Just in case anyone in the future is looking at this and wants an answer for some reason, I discovered it was just because of the ungodly amount of Ram Just Cause 3 takes up, both regular system ram and vram. When I play something like The Witcher 2 I don't see these huge drops in frame rate, and it also doesn't make me go past 35% of total ram being used. It appears that even getting a GPU with more vram may not even help. If the overflow of vram being used which is cutting into the regular system ram isn't a large enough amount, then I'm still not going to have enough ram to run the game.
  2. If this is true then it all makes sense. If I had more vram it would probably fix it, or if I clean out my system and get rid of all the junk using up bits of ram, then that may also fix it. Thanks! I'm going to go clean out my system and see how much ram I can free up. Thank you!
  3. See that's what I thought, but the thing is I'm using task manager to look at ram usage and it shows the total ram usage of my whole system. (background programs and everything, at least to my knowledge)
  4. I'm almost positive that's not it, seeing as I still have about a gig left in ram. (see here) It seems more likely to me that I'm running out of vram, and for some reason maybe because I'm also using most of my system ram, it is paging to the hard drive. This would explain pretty much everything, but I'm not sure if it's what's going on, what are your thoughts?
  5. I'm having problems playing games due to large lag spikes. I'm worried about this now because I don't want to have the same problem when I get a real GPU later this year. Right now when I play Just Cause 3, by adjusting the settings I can get 25-30 fps, but every so often it will just dip, usually for long periods of time. (Note: this can happen at any time. Sometimes it happens during instense action scenes, other times it happens when I'm just driving a car). Here's what I do know. 1. MSI AfterBurner claims I'm using about 1800 MB of vram, even though my card only has 1 gig of Vram. 2.Every time I get one of the huge lag spikes along with it I also have a huge increase in disc usage (usually up to 100%). 3.My Ram usage is at about 7 gigs while playing Just Cause 3, but it seems like I still have about a gig of free ram. (I have 8 gigs of ram) 4. Every time the Disc usage spikes the graphics card usage dips way down. (Along with the frame rate). Everything I've said I have screenshots for to show you what I'm talking about. If you need any other specs of the computer don't hesitate to ask. Again, I don't really mind that I can't play games right now, but I'm worried that this is an issue that will effect me in the future. Vram Usage Gpu Usage (Notice the dips) Gpu Stats Disc Usage Over a 60 second time span of playing (you can also seem ram usage here) EDIT: After doing a little bit more research it looks to me like I'm running out of vram, and because I'm also using most of my system ram, it is paging to the hard drive. This would explain pretty much everything, but I'm not sure if it's true, so if anyone could confirm or deny this it would be great!
  6. With the release of all these new video cards in the next few months and into next year I've decided to buy a new GPU. That being said I'm most likely going to be needing to buy a new PSU as well. At this point with the information we have I'm probably going to be going with a GTX 1070 or 2 RX 480s, and I think with a 600 watt PSU I should be fine. However, I'm wondering if I should buy a really nice, high quality power supply that can give me like 1000 watts or something so I wont have to buy another PSU should I upgrade again in the future. What are your thoughts on this? Is it damaging to the components to have the hooked up to a too-powerful PSU? Is it even viable to get a PSU to last me long term (years) or would it just be better/safer to get a new one each time I upgrade?
