I find reverse proxies great as you can do something like web1.domain.com and web2.domain.com and have them link to different web servers. Great for running many different services on different servers.

It should help security as the public internet never can access the actual webservers, but only your proxy. This should make a lot of attacks that rely on taking to a web server directly much harder.

1440p is freaking awesome and benefits in 27". (This is equivalent to 34" 21:9 and 49" 32:9). You shouldn't use 1080p in 27".

But for 32", it is not good enough and better up to 4K resolution. 32" in 1440p give you good working space but the rest is same bad as using 1080p in 27".

Once you use 1440p in 27" then you will know how bad 1080p in 27" for text and icon clarity. Also the workspace is so small and everything look so freaking big in 1080p for 27".

This is same apply to 1440p in 32". Everything look pixelate and bad.

Mihle reacted to Spotty in Why leave locked topics on the forums?
Generally; If content is violating the rules it is removed. If it is likely to elicit responses that break the rules it is locked. It's up to the moderator's discretion to decide what is best for each case.

There can be some benefit in people seeing some posts that get locked as people can see what isn't allowed and learn from it. People are also less likely to repost it after it is locked than after it is deleted because they know everybody can see that they've already posted it and already been told it's not allowed so people won't help. In my experience with dealing with people, people do seem to often consider locking a thread to be a "softer" approach than outright deleting it. If the OP wants a locked thread deleted they can just send a mod a message and we are normally happy to do that (though there are cases where some locked threads are left up for transparency sake).

For something like the thread you're talking about the original post itself is not really harmful to the community leaving it up but further discussion (such as posts giving instructions on how to bypass security restrictions/hack systems) would be violating the forum rules. The thread is locked to prevent posts that are likely to violate the forum rules. If the post itself was violating the rules, such as if it was a guide on how to bypass school restrictions, then in that situation that post would be removed instead of locked.

The forum rules apply to messages. If you break the rules via messages you can still be banned. Especially if you do so after a moderator has posted saying that it's against the rules and you try to find ways to break the rules without being caught.

Mihle reacted to seanondemand in Why are so many PC components impossible to order?
Small shops in small regions deal with small distributors, who don’t deal every part the manufacturers make. Apart from ordering the part from continental sellers who will ship to you (which I assume is expensive), I would start with the shop to find out what they can get, and put together the build from there. When availability is limited, you can’t always get what you want.

Yeah sure but when you already lost your login data 3 times you should get the idea that writing it down somewhere safer is probably a good idea...

Making the same mistake 4 times in a row is actually impressive.

Mihle reacted to flibberdipper in Hot take: in 2024, 8GB of memory is enough for non-enthusiasts
On Windows? Not really. I see tons of PCs come in of varying age ranges with (typically) 4, 8, and 12GB configurations. The 4GB ones are always DOG slow, even though some of them are only a year or two old and would otherwise be fine with more RAM. 8GB (or I guess technically 6GB, but that doesn't exist with modern desktops or laptops) is really the lowest one would want to go, especially with Windows 11.

Modern Windows 11 tries to idle at like 4-5GB depending on how much shitware there is. When I got this laptop, after everything was settled in and it had time to calm down the lowest I ever saw RAM go was 5.2GB, and after a clean install of 11 I managed to shed anywhere from half to a full gig on that, depending how it feels that particular day.

Super unrealistic and would cripple governments. There are no open source alternatives to SAP, Oracle EnterpriseOne, Salesforce and nobody is going to make them open source or enter in to the market and make one.

I also would include the ineptitude of the prosecution and its experts. How did they send people to jail for something like this without vetting the software used to prosecute in the first place?

Buying music instead of streaming wouldn't really work for me as I don't really only listen to things I have listened before.
I am a big user of discovery/radio playlists on Spotify regularly (not always) to listen to music I don't specifically choose myself you can't really do that if you buy albums.

I would recommend stop using it for anything that is connected to the internet because it isn't safe to do so. The more time passes, the less secure it is as more vulnerabilities that won't be fixed, are found.
