Mihle reacted to Visulg in Linus's remarks on Twitter in the past couple months couldn't be more wrong
I have been a big fan of Linus and the team since the begining. Even before the Langly house. I remember the day Linus painted his home garage as a set  background. I even go back and watch old LTT and CSF videos for fun and it's also pretty nostalgic for me.

I have adored Linus's takes on pretty much anything and he has been right most of the time or have been transparent/logical about his remarks otherwise.

Although i have to argue the recent remarks that linus had been delivering in the past few months about Elon and the twitter acquisition has made me realise that Linus has changed his approach when covering main stream news events. He has become a product of the media propaganda machine that he despised at the early days.

Its funny that i first discovered Tesla/Elon from wan show back in the day around 2012 or so, when WAN show covered the model S safety demonstration video where it showcased that the roof of the car was so strong that you could stack 5 model s on top of each other before the roof of the bottom most models collapses. And I am forever great full for Linus and LMG for all the entertainment and information that its brought to me over the years.

But the way Linus has become an Elon hater or Twitter hater without seeking beyond what mainstream media has put out has been shocking to me. It begs the question if Linus is wrong about this what else is he wrong about.

It has been heartbreaking for me to part ways with one of my favourite creators and see them follow the mainstream media propaganda. And I have tried to forget about the whole thing and just keep an open mind and give linus the benifit of the doubt about what he is saying. But Linus keeps digging and he doesn't seem to stop or try to understand whats really going on.

I sincerely hope linus would open his eyes sooner than later and realise he has been wrong about the whole twitter/elon saga and make things right.

This is my first post ever and hope i have not stepped out of my bounds or the forum post guidelines and whatnot. Have a great day guys.

Will respond to meaningful and constructive comments. Thanks 😊

Mihle got a reaction from LogicalDrm in Credit Card chat on WAN show: do europeans hate credit cards???
At least here in Norway, using credit card do not improve your credit score at all, zero. But not paying back credit card loan do count negatively.

So there is no reason to use credit card to "build credit score". And that's how it should be.

Before I went back to uni my credit score was quite good and I don't use credit cards.

For me personally I just don't find the benefit of a credit card good enough to bother having to remember paying it back every month. And I don't like the concept of those that use it right have the slight benefit because some people don't.

So you don't watch movies after you've seen the trailers? You don't read books after you've read what they're about on the back? You don't play games after a reviewer summarizes what to expect? Seriously, worst take imaginable. But humor me, how does the replacement title sum up the video to the point where you'd no longer felt like watching it?

If you have the setup as number 3, the fan at the top and furthest back should definitely be blowing out of the case rather than in to the case.
If you have it blowing in to the case the air would just go out the exhaust fan on the back without going through any heatsink and potentially also stop some of the air that comes from the front from reaching the exhaust fan and going through the heatsinks.

Mihle reacted to Sauron in Can we use emojis to sign contracts? - Spoiler: 👍
What's special about a signature that makes is sufficient to seal a contract while no other form of acknowledgement will do? Usually the point is to guarantee that it was you who agreed to the contract, if that can be done through other means (i.e. by receiving a message from your phone, something the farmer didn't dispute as far as I can tell) then there's no need for it to be a signature specifically.

Could it have been a simple mistake? Sure, but then the farmer should have been more careful in his business dealings... imagine you were the one who ordered and needed the flax, sent a contract and all you got back was a "👍" or "ok" as you had multiple times before where the flax did arrive, what are you supposed to think? Maybe it should be required to be more intentional with this stuff but consider that in this case if that had been the law the receiving company would have been in its right not to pay the farmer for previous delivery since no contract was signed.

"They'd be required to completely rework their business models from the ground up if they still want to do business in the EU." - That's exactly what the EU tries to achieve. 😅
There is no chance this will lead to an exodus of corporations and a market gap in Europe. That's scaremongering by the affected corporations, not a real threat. As we have seen so many times before.

Mihle reacted to LAwLz in EU Lists First 7 Potential "Gatekeepers" Under The Digital Markets Act (DMA)
I am not so sure that is the case.
Even if they are forced to let iMessage interact with other messaging services, I doubt a lot of people in the EU would switch from iPhones because of it (mainly because iMessage is in general not a big deal here). I also don't think people would flock to other app stores. On the Mac you have the option to download software from places other than the store, but it is still the preferred way for most people. Being on the app store provides benefits such as being easily discoverable, having an easy payment system, and a robust update system (including a very good CDN). Plus the safety it gives your users to even try your app.
I think people overestimate how much this will actually affect Apple's bottom line. I don't think it will affect that all that much. It might be the case that now someone like Epic Games will launch an alternative app store and put Fortnite on it, and thus keeping all of the revenue. But Apple already banned them so it's not like they will lose anything they get today. Some people might download games from the Epic game store instead but how big is that market realistically?

Now, if Apple was a new and upcoming company then it would be a totally different thing. Not being allowed to create the walled garden would probably have hampered their progress (which just to be clear, I don't think would mean hampering progress for consumers). But this law only applies to massive companies to begin with, so I don't think it would actually have changed anything.

And as others have already said several times, the EU is a massive market and any sale is better than no sale. Hence why companies like Apple also agree to comply with laws in for example China.

Depends what you call sharp. Higher than 108 PPI do look sharper to anyone than exactly 108 PPI.

I have 4k 32" display, aka around 138 PPI and is to me noticeably sharper than 108 PPI.

If it's worth it or not is more subjective tho, to me it was.

This is correct, this should be marked as the solution.

This is the reason your text is blurry, it not happened in newer apps that utilize Windows new scaling method, but older apps do not utilize Windows new scaling method will blurry out.

You can one by one change the blurry apps scaling method and this can prevent the blur issue, but the apps will look very big if you got dual monitor setup and you move your apps from higher resolution to lower resolution monitor.

Another way is always using 100% scaling.

This is Windows 10 or 11 design issue. No way to solve in total once you scale more than 100%.

Step --> Right click the app shortcut and choose properties --> Go to Compatibility tab --> Click Change high DPI settings --> Tick Override high DPI scaling behavior and choose Application.

On top they are another tick for Program DPI and Microsoft said use this setting to fix scaling problems, but this solution not always work as it supposed to fix the blurry issue.

Another thing you need to take noted is if you want to show what happened to your monitor display, you need to use camera and take a photo of it. Screenshot is 1010 and screenshot won't be able to show the issue you face in your monitor. You can try using your mobile and look back to your attached screenshot and you will notice it is 100% sharp and clear.

Unfortunately for your friend, these are not merely screens.

They are a PLC and HMI all in one.
You don't just "copy" the info and hope that it works on a tablet.
It's the "brain" that makes the whole machine work the way it does.
The code for it is programmed with whichever software Lenze uses. It could be programmed in Ladder, in SFC (grafcet), or in whatever other programming language. Which cannot be read by Windows unless you have the software needed for it... And cannot be run by windows unless you have the hardware for it. In this case, the PLC, the HMI, the IO bus, and everything else connected to it. A tablet also wouldn't have any way to interface with the Inputs/Outputs of the machine, which the PLC does.

Unless your friend feels like redoing the entire programming for whatever machine this is interfacing with, and replacing a good chunk of the other stuff he already has, he ain't replacing it with something else other than an identical Lenze p300 controller (or some other compatible controller).
Even less so a simple windows computer. It doesn't work that way. He NEEDS  a PLC at the very least to connect with all the stuff he already has.
Now if this screen really was just a HMI, there would be a possibility to replace it with a PC/Tablet. Because then it could simply use profinet/ethernet (or rs232), to connect remotely to the PLC and interface with it in a supervision screen to create a pseudo "hmi". Except it's not. It would cost a lot more to retrofit this into a different ecosystem.

If they are blowing up one after another, it means the whole thing wasn't wired properly. Because this ain't normal. Chances are, he could contact the manufacturer for information on this and possibly warranty as well. Industrial stuff is typically well warrantied and/or has places where you can get them repaired. Maybe contact whoever sold him that machine in the first place.

    Fancy words list
PLC = Programmable Logic Controller. It's basically the "brain". It controls everything the machine does and what makes it "smart" in some way. Turning on/off a motor to make something turn is the simplest of dumbest circuit possible, no need for a PLC. But controlling the speed of the motor, that takes a bit more brain power and a drive and what not. Even more so if he wants to control it through a HMI.
HMI = Human Machine Interface. Literally what it says. It's your gateway to interfacing with the machine it's connected to. What you see displayed on the screen, was programmed to show that way. From the icons, the drawings, the text, the animation to whatever else you see on the screen (other than bare windows interface), was custom programmed for this machine.

If trucker salary was high enough, it would wouldn't be a trucker shortage. That's how it works.
It might lead to a bigger shortage in some other field, but it would help with shortage on the trucker field, that is just fact of economics.

I secretly hope to see a return to forums.  Where only dozens or maybe a few hundred people at most could be enough to sustain a vibrant community.  We instead had many, many, MANY forums like that, rather than relying on everything being one massive website.  This was far more sustain table, because you could run a forum out of pocket as a hobby and it wasn't a big deal.  All of these massive global websites are expensive as hell to run and big investors are starting to realize that they don't' actually make money.

However, I don't think this is what the majority of people want  They want the dopamine hit from going 'viral' and getting hundreds, thousands, or even more likes from absolute strangers across the globe.  They don't want 10 reponses from a small passionate group, they want it big and impersonal, with the conversation being mostly one way even.
