those ssd are on sata or NVMe?
They are NVMe (M.2)

if you want to go 10g you will also need a switch or router that can handle 10g
it wont be cheap if money is a concern and your motherboard s support it check thunderbolt out.
I have a "Asus ROG Maximus X Hero", but wouldn't thunderbolt use PCIe lanes too?
Money is no concern, I would rather to it with ethernet, but thanks!
23 minutes ago, BubblyCharizard said:it will use the PCH lanes as only the 2x8 for your 1080ti's will come off the CPU, but you should be fine
you will be sharing the lanes that come from the CPU to the PCH (IIRC its a x4)
Thank you!
At the intel chipset spec site the max number of PCIe lanes is 24, so could it be a x8 link too?

Hello!
I want to upgrade to 10GBit at home (well, the connection from Gaming Rig to NAS).
The question now is, would I loose any performance on my Gaming Rig by doing so?
I have:
1x i7-8700K
2 x 1080Ti
2 x Samsung 960 Pro 1TB, in RAID0
I want to add one 10G NIC (ROG AREION 10G ?)
I kinda know that there is an "excess" of PCIe Lanes on the Z370 Chipset for the drives and other stuff.
But will those be enough? Or will I loose any performance?
Thanks in advance!

I understand. So you are in search of a program that does this?
I would try Veeam: https://www.veeam.com/windows-endpoint-server-backup-free.html
In this scenario, you'd be backing up your entire Steam directory.
Yes, sorry!
I meant which software to use...
Thank you, I will try Veeam

I'm not sure what your use-case for your games are, but since you are backing up your steam library, which I assume are just game data and not saves, (Since save data is much smaller and not sensitive you can upload them virtually everywhere) so this data is infrequently accessed. Please correct me if I'm not understanding. This game data is also not super crucial in the fact that you can always re-download them.
For these reasons I would recommend buying a $100 4TB hard drive, using Steam to backup the game data once, and then storing it away. You are right, its just the games, most save files are on the steam cloud anyway.
I just like to have them backed up the games somewhere, since my RAID 0 array failed a few times (my own faults ^^).
Since I download new games sometimes and sometimes there are big updates, I would like to back them up weekly and automatically (my NAS has a lot of unused space anyway).

Hello!
So I run a NAS in my home (unraid OS) and want to backup my steam library which currently is 1,04TB in size.
My documents and such are managed by the Windows 10 backup tool...
Do you have any recommendations for a GOOD Backup software?
I made some bad experiences with Acronis and Crashplan, but maybe because of trial versions?
It should allow for 2 or more schedules and be as quick as possible ^^!
Also I don't care for the price (as long as it's reasonable) and don't want any cloud stuff.
Thank you very much in advance!

well, you have ssds so its not the drive speed. could be a corrupted OS. If it is truly windows xp level slow you might want to format the c drive and reinstall windows after pulling off all important files. If its only a little slow than I would just chalk it up to windows programs adjusting to the windows update.
okay thanks! Could be the windows update thing, I did a fresh install like 2 weeks ago!
Additionally, could it be my overclock?
I remember a few years back, you had to increase the VCCIO (or whatever ^^) voltage too and do some fine tuning.
But I kept it fairly low with 4,7 GHz

Run a malware scan and update all your drivers.
That could be the cause!
I opted to install as few drivers as possible and let Windows do its stuff... (read it would be better, somewhere...)

Hello everybody!
So since some time my PC feels so sluggish ...
Many programs need way too long to start, Windows explorer takes forever sometimes to open file directories.
I just want a fast experience when I am using my PC !
My Hardware shouldn't be the problem, I hope:
OS: Windows 10 latest Update
CPU: i7-6700K @ 4,7 GHz
MB: Asus Maximus VIII Formula
C drive: Samsung 960 Pro 1 TB
D drive: 2 x Samsung 950 Pro 1 TB in Raid0
gfx cards: 2 x 1080 Ti (Asus FE)
Last new windows installation ~2 weeks ago

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind!

It was a pack of 4 DIMMs (4 x 8GB).
So I guess, if all slots are filled (Maximus VIII Formula [4 RAM Slots]), then I should be fine right?
Thanks!
-
Since the motherboard has 8 slots you could, potentially, just put another Kit of 64GB into it.
oops 2l8, sorry ^^
-
Hey Guys!
So I have a stupid question, kind of.
I got a "Dual Channel Kit" of DDR4 RAM (Link: GSKILL F4-3200C16Q-32GVK)
Does it matter in which order i plug the DIMMs in?
So, are they marked with like numbers or something to indicate
which 2 DIMMs to put in the same colored slots?
Thank you very much in advance!
Best regards

Hello all.
I just got my 1080 Ti.
Now I am considering a second 1080 Ti (FE).
Is it worth it? (Cost does not matter)
Thanks!

amp exteme coolers are the best and the biggest so check if it fits your system first
I got a really big case so should be no problem, but I will throw away the cooler anyway ^^
Just ordered the Asus Founders Edition btw !

What I'm trying to say is that as long as your temperatures are below 83C, all 1080 Tis will run into a brick wall at around 2100MHz. You won't OC further with better temperatures, unfortunately. Not without going below zero with LN2.
And yes the founders will hit the same overclocks, it depends on the chip you got not on the card around it.
Then sorry for the misunderstanding and thank you!
-

In fact you won't be able to OC further with watercooling either, you'll only get a quieter card. Keep that in mind.
Sorry to oppose, but if the temperature is lower you can OC a chip further.
If I forget to adjust my fans (after I turned them down to run while I sleep) my CPU OC fails (normal 50°C max, low fans 70-80°C)!
But anyway, my question was not asked correctly (I'll edit):
If I can cool down the Founders Edition Card enough, will it be able to achieve the same performance / OC as the Strix one?
-
Hey all,
I want to get the new GTX 1080 Ti and watercool it.
Either the Founders Edition or the Strix one.
My question now is, do I only pay extra for the cooler, * so do I get the same
performance if I apply a better cooler myself?
Thanks in advance!
TomSerious
* b4 edit:
or is it possible to overclock the Strix card further than the Founders Edition?

Hey guys,
so I am bored out of my mind and I am bored of the typical games I play (WoW, Assetto Corsa, TESO)...
Could anyone recommend me a single player game?
Or a way to find a game that's actually fun (I pretty much like everything, except retro games)?
I have, currently, 666 games in my steam library but I go down the list and can't seem to find anything fun...Maybe tell me which game you play currently?
Thank you in advance
Cheers,

Disable the CSM option and it should become available.
Or do the below
Unluckily, I already reset the array and it works fine now, I did automaticly disable CSM though.
Thanks anyway, but I hope I don't have to try that in the future haha.

Try seeing if you can re-build the array from the pre-boot raid utility.
(ctrl+i while your computer is booting)
If that doesn't work, you may be outta luck and have to re-build the array, losing all data. Good luck!
Well, that option is greyed out
Thank you for your help!

@goodtofufriday, thanks, I updated the original comment
@pwn_intended, thanks for the information, but I changed it directly after the BIOS update was finished

Dear LTT cummunity!
I hope you can help me with this one.
A few minutes ago I updated my bios and that made my RAID 0 array fail.
As in the attached picture, there is 1 drive missing but an "additional" drive down below
which should correctly be the "missing" disk!
It should be mentioned, that it's not a boot drive, but the storage array with all my games and
documents (I can't remember if all my data on that storage array is backed up on my NAS)
Additional note, everything was running fine for months, just after the (successful) BIOS update
the raid array broke, everything else still runs fine.
Hardware:
i7-6700K at 4,8GHz
32gb of some Gskill RAM at 3200 MHz
Asus Maximus VIII Formula
Samsung 950 512gb (Boot drive)
Samsung 850 Pro x 2 (should be Raid 0)
GTX 1080 FE at ~1900MHz
Custom Watercooling (EKWB)
Has anyone any ideas?
Thank you very much in advance!
Best regards
TomSerious

Thank you!!
To clarify, I got a very nice desktop at home (i7 6700k 4,7ghz/gtx 1080/950pro/custom water cooling and so on ^^),
I would just need the laptop on business trips to play in the evening or when I am at my gf and would do my on trip office work on it.
