I agree with getting a coffee lake upgrade down the road, but I'd recommend going for a i5-8400 since the i5-8600K is more than 50% more and would require a Z370 motherboard to really make the most use of, which would push way past $400 usd.
OP, right now the only coffee lake motherboards available are the high end Z370 ones... I'd say "wait and see" right now, since if you aren't going to overclock an i5-8400 and a cheaper mobo would make a compelling upgrade. Right now the boards simply don't exist.
*However!*
If you are aiming for 4k gaming, your 1060 6GB is going to very, very quickly become an issue. My 1080TI can't always get playable framerates running at 4k on semi-demanding titles, without bumping down the settings. 1060 6GB would be great for a 1080p build, and for a 1080p build your current setup should work pretty well. You can probably get good framerates at 1440p too, so long as you dropped the settings a little.
If you *need* to upgrade right now, go for Ryzen, since the performance is good and the motherboards are cheap. Eventually you could upgrade to a higher end intel chip, but intel is just too expensive right now.

Janner558 reacted to Enderman in What's a good stable 5.0 ghz overclock on a 7700k
There is no such thing as "usual voltage".
Every CPU is different, that's why it's called a silicon lottery.
Just because someone else's CPU can get 5GHz at 1.3v does not mean yours can.
Obviously it can't, and you either need to reduce the frequency or increase the voltage further.
It there is no guarantee that an H100i will get you 5GHz for the 7700k.
It sounds to me like you need to do a bit more research on overclocking before you try frying your CPU.

Janner558 reacted to iRileyx in Is there a gpu block for the EVGA 1080 8gb superclocked?
I don't think that specific oneis actually a compatible one. Doesn't come up on their compatibility checker for that card.

Janner558 reacted to QuantumBit in Why so much hate about new Intel Processors??!
Intel doesn't care about its consumers, it just wants to make the most money. It will overprice things, and cut off support for no reason.

Janner558 reacted to 3rrant in Why so much hate about new Intel Processors??!
The hate do not come by the product, but by management. They lied, they lost transparency, they prevented the market to grow, they stopped to improve, they do not give any chance of upgredability, they just don't care about their costumers.
It's not about their CPU, it's about the company itself. And they built this, so it's totally their fault.

Janner558 reacted to xc3ll in Will an R9 380 be enough for a Ryzen R5 1600?
In that case, go with the 1600! It's a way better deal for any use-case, that can benefit from more cores.

Sadly, they don't have the color I am looking for either.
That I hadn't seen! Thank you, it solves my problem. Damn, even has a custom length system. That is REALLY nice, so I don't have too much length or too little, considering the size of the case I am looking at. Thank you VERY much!
Yeah, I see that, but again, not the right color sadly.
Oooo, thanks! I will take a look at them too!
Thanks all for the info, this has helped a LOT! Can't wait to start to work on this system in the new year!

Sorry for the delay of response.
We don't sell the black bottom part directly but if you open a support ticket on our website, I think the guys will be able to sell you one in a custom order.

You won't see much noticiple thermal difrence between theses and more expensive air coolers until you hit the 50-80$ ish price range.

Janner558 reacted to KWelz in Larger reservoir = Better cooling performance
I know a lot of SMEs who fall into the exact category I stated and I stand by what I said. I didn't say you don't know water cooling. I said you are a know-it-all who think they are the all knowing font of knowledge. You take the time to make an idiotic comment like you did above and disparage someone who has done a lot to bring water cooling to more people because his answer wasn't nuanced enough for you.
When it comes down to it, he gave a practical answer. You gave one that may apply to a small percentage of users. If you had left it at that then nobody would have thought anything of it. But you felt the need to make the comment.
Which just shows you are more concerned with denigrating others than actually being productive.

Janner558 reacted to EK Luc in EKWB Kit question- hardline ready?
Sorry i'm late to the party!!! All our kits (except the Fluid Gaming line) can be upgraded by the customer to go hardline but they can't be bought with hardline fittings out of the box. So the suggestion of choosing your own parts with the loop configurator might be the best here. This way you won't end up with fittings and tubing that you won't use.

Janner558 reacted to Jurrunio in Watercooling a GPU, reference, ftw3, strix, aorus. Does it really matter which card i choose?
Another thing is to make sure there is a block for that PCB. Most reference PCB get waterblock (s) for them, but not necessarily for custom PCBs. You have to list out custom PCB ones with waterblocks available first, then consider your pick.
For example, EK's waterblock only fit 5 cards https://www.ekwb.com/news/official-list-ek-water-blocks-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-series/.
