From what I've tried unplugging them works best for making them quieter. It just overheats quicker (then it did before)

Not too sure but it could be that your PSU just needs some load on it to stabalize it. It could be a dodgy transformer because from experience transformers can make a whining sound when they aren't being loaded enough.

Do you mean as 1 or seperately? Seperately no, since they are all counted as 1. If you wanted to control them seperately you need a fan controller.
