Last night, I've installed VMware Tools on both VMs (contrary to what I thought, they weren't installed on the RDS server either). My DC server is still on time. But now, in Windows settings > Time & Language > Date & time, "Set time automatically" is enabled (it was previously greyed out), and "Last successful time synchronization" and "Time server" both show "unspecified", instead of "Free-running system clock" for the latter. Is it expected behavior? Now my RDS server is on time. But then again, things are super weird: the "Time server" is now time.windows.com, instead of dc1.<redacted>.net. I have installed the VMware Tools and rebooted, but I haven't changed anything else myself. What happened? Last but not least, there are the client computers joined to the domain. Those still have dc1.<redacted>.net as their Time server, but their clock was still one hour behind this morning, although they've been shut down yesterday before my VM updates and been turned on this morning. What's wrong and how do I fix this? Again, I'd prefer to stick to the default settings, which seems to be synchronizing clients with the domain controller. The knowledge base article seems outdated, as it mentions ESXi 6.x at best, and as /etc/sysconfig/clock doesn't exist on my system. My /etc/localtime file looks weird, but it mentions "UTC": date returns the right time in UTC: [root@XXXXXXXX:~] date Wed Apr 5 18:08:52 UTC 2023 Thank you for your input, does it bring any new hint? VMware Tools isn't installed (yet) on the DC VM, which acts as a NTP server for the RDS VM. Anyway I'm using snapshots, I will use vMotion, so I guess I need that ESXi handles time synchronization. Usually I don't mind to deviate from the recommended settings, but in this instance I think I understand the rationale behind synchronizing the VMs through ESXi rather than through NTP on the client: when you wake up a suspended VM or move a VM to another ESXi host, ESXi needs to set the date and time instantly, you can't wait for the next NTP sync. Is it that hard to properly configure the timezone between ESXi and Windows?

Hi! I have a VMware ESXi 8.0.0 server on which I have 2 Windows Server 2022 VMs: a domain controller and an RDS. I noticed that the date and time of my 2 Windows Server VMs were moving forward a few minutes. So via the ESXi Host Client web interface, I started the ntpd service and configured the NTP client in Host > Manage > System > Time & date. After some time, the clock of my VMs was updated. Now the minutes are synchronized. But the clock of my VMs is one hour behind. That is to say that when it's 2:00pm in Paris, 12:00pm UTC, my Windows VMs are showing 1:00pm. These VMs are well configured on the time zone "(UTC+01:00) Brussels, Copenhagen, Madrid, Paris", "Adjust for daylight saving time automatically" is enabled, and the date is right (04/04/2023). How to make the clock correct? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for suggesting other fans, some of which I didn't know. But I think I'm quite settled with my Noctua set, which was pretty expensive, and I quite like the company. What I could still improve, though, are fan curves and maybe some other BIOS settings.

Hi! Thank you @Dukesilver27-! I bought a set of Noctua Chromax fans and accessories. Here is the result, just before I remembered I had previously bought the NA-HC8 heatsink cover. I didn't expect that 2 x 140mm fans at the front would require the removal of one of the power supply chamber dividers, which somewhat breaks up the monolithic design I was hoping for, and maybe negatively affects cooling? Anyway, now my PC is almost inaudible at idle. With 100% fan speed, it is significantly cooler under load, so it doesn't thermal throttle anymore, even after 20 minutes of Cinebench, but it is also significantly louder under load. Do you have any suggestions for customizing the fan curve? (CPU fan curve is the default, System 1 and 2 are my first shot) And do you have any BIOS settings to draw my attention to? Multicore enhancement, XMP profiles (useful with DDR5 4800?), SecureBoot (MSI B660M Mortar WiFi)… I lost track! Next steps are: finding a "founders edition"/reference design or another good looking Radeon RX 6000 series GPU installing macOS on another M.2 SSD buying a set of custom CableMod cables, to enhance cable management

Do you mean one more 140mm fan at the front? What about 3 120mm fans? Would you buy something else than Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM or NF-A14 PWM? (Chromax.Black variants obviously ;-)) I don't quite like the flat CPU and PCIe cables, the CPU cables even make the cover hard to close! That's what I did, with the same rationale, despite the PSU manual saying otherwise, thank you. Is there any tip for a good estimation? I would like to use something like a cord, with the same kind of behavior than a PSU cable, to be able to truly measure. Are you aware of some kind of angled adapter or small extension flexible cable that would let me plug the case cables at the back?

For my tests, I used a brand new Samsung 980 SSD, but I'll try Hard Disk Sentinel just in case. My tests were done with two successive fresh installations of Windows 11 and then Windows 10, so malwares are excluded. I thought driver update softwares did more harm than good, but these are temporary Windows installations so I can try! Any other suggestions?

It already works well, but I'd like to perfect it: improve cooling, mostly to make it quieter improve cable management How would you achieve that? (fan upwards, so towards the inside of the case, or fan downwards, so towards the floor?) Any tips to measure the lenght of CableMod custom cables? What should I do with these ugly USB cables? Until I got to diagnose one of those PCs, it was running BIOS version 1.30. Updating the BIOS is one of the first things I tried, it's now running latest version 1.50, but it still hangs or BSODs after a few minutes of CSGO. A few overnight unlimited tests, I don't remember the number of tests, but I do remember 100% PASS. Regarding MCE, at least in the sense of letting the CPU run at higher wattage for longer period of times (PL1?), it seems that enabling it is the "default" for most youtubers like LTT, GamersNexus, etc., isn't it? A bit like XMP. Anyway I do have BSODs with Cinebench even with MCE disabled. What else should I check? Thank you for your inputs!

Hi from France! I work as a freelance IT manager for an event service provider. The technical director has handed me one of their computers/workstations that serve as "vMix stations" (vMix being en equivalent to OBS for mixing and live streaming events). The problem is that these computers are unstable. As soon as I activate the Multi Core Enhancement, they crash after only 1 or 2 minutes of Counter-Strike Global Offensive (CSGO), sometimes as soon as the game menu is displayed, they cause BSODs during a Cinebench test, sometimes even at rest. So I turned off Multi Core Enhancement, even though I feel like it's a waste. Unfortunately, although I have never reproduced this behavior, I have been told that they sometimes crash during events, even without Multi Core Enhancement. So far they were using BIOS version 1.30, with the default settings, except I enabled the XMP profile, with a fresh Windows 10 22H2 install, Intel drivers from the ASRock website (the ones from the Intel site don't work!), Nvidia drivers from Nvidia. Hi from France! I want to assemble a new hackintosh, probably based on Core i5-9600K or i7-9700K. I can study the Ryzen 3 track if I have a crush on a motherboard, but the AMD CPUs make some concessions on macOS (especially CPU power management). I'm looking for advice for a minimalist motherboard: - I'd like it to be as visually sober as possible - that there are as few exotic chipsets as possible (as they are unlikely to be supported by macOS) - and as a bonus, the BIOS/UEFI is as neutral as possible (models: Intel NUC and PC manufacturers such as Dell, Lenovo...) For the moment I have located the EVGA B360 Micro Gaming, which is only available in the United States, but I am so motivated I might import it in France. Its only flaw, in addition to its unavailability in France: the anachronistic PS/2 port! I wouldn't have been against a second slot for a PCIe NVMe SSD, for Windows, but a SATA SSD does the job to play CSGO ? Otherwise I like the NZXT Z390 Coverless, but I find it expensive for what it is, and the input/output panel is a little too crammed for my taste. For your information I will not use the iGPU, so I don't need (or even want) video outputs on the I/O panel, nor the audio chipset of the motherboard, because I have a good USB DAC, so I don't need the 5 jacks and the SPDIF output (who still does 5.1 audio with 3.5mm jacks?! or even with SPDIF ? :-/) The smaller the PC the better, but I would like to have 10GBASE-T sooner or later, and it seems to me that in 2019/2020 it is more cost-effective to add a PCIe card than to choose a motherboard with an integrated 10GbE port, so unless there is a great find, it excludes mini-ITX. Linus did a video 10 days ago, where he featured this thread, and where he answered some of our questions and complaints. More importantly, he agreed that some titles weren't clear enough about the actual subject. It looks like their new naming system is <"Clicky" title> - <Product name> <Review/First Look/…>, which is totally fine with me. And there are already a few videos I've watched (most of which I'm glad I did) that I wouldn't have watched if there wasn't the 2nd part of the title. For instance: Apple, Please Keep Doing This! – iMac 2019 Review They LIED to me! - DDR4 RAM to M.2 SSD Adapter Apple won't like this... - Run MacOS on ANY PC (although "Virtualize" instead of "Run" would have been more upfront) But I'm still waiting for the second part of the title to watch these videos: I can never go back... I may like gardening with some kind of flowers but not with another. It's the same with technology, which is a vast topic. For example, I'm not interested in an RTX 2060 video review because all I wan't is read AnandTech's article about it. I don't want to have to watch a video for even a few seconds to decide if I'm interested in the content. I have a selective yet large set of subscriptions, but I think I only watch 1 in 10 videos. If I had to watch every video for 10 s to judge if I want to watch would waste a lot of time. Likewise, imagine all the time you'd waste if there weren't relevant titles on news websites, emails, files, etc. I've stopped linear TV and started watching YouTube a lot exactly to choose what I watch. And I'd like to ask again: isn't MKBHD proof that you can get 8 million subscribers and millions of views on each video without clickbait titles and funny faces?

I'm glad that I'm not the only one to feel that way! I'm sorry if I posted a dupe, I haven't been using the forum. Regarding the "need" to use clickbait titles to pay the bills, I'll just say that Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) has the same number of subscribers (7,7 million subscribers for him versus 7,9 for LTT) and that he makes as much, if not more, views, without any clickbait title and with just a few subtle funny faces and the occasional outlined "?". You can always make more views, just use girls in swim suit with huge boobs as thumbnails. I think it's a matter of balance between quality and money. If Linus has already been "warned" and hasn't changed anything, I'm sorry but I'm unsubsribing right away. Obviously as a nerd in his 30s I'm not his target anymore.

Hello there! Since I saw the first 1 Tower, 2 Gaming Rigs video on Linus' YouTube channel, I'm dreaming of using virtualization to replace several devices at home. I'd love to have only one server for : my Linux file server my dual boot Windows 10/OS X hackintosh computer my OSMC Kodi Raspberry Pi media center And I'm sure I'm not the only one! Am I? Qnap just announced a server which could fit those needs, the TVS-x82 series: https://www.qnap.com/i/en/news/con_show.php?op=showone&cid=515 These are Core i3, i5 or i7 Skylake servers with M.2, 2,5" and 3,5" slots, and more importantly PCI Express slots. I don't know if the official QTS firmware is able to properly passthrough a GPU for a Windows gaming VM. But we may be able to replace the original firmware with any OS, like unRAID. Although I've owned a TS-639 Pro years ago and the BIOS wasn't allowing to boot straight on anything else than the 512MB DOM. Is anyone using a 1 CPU X VMs setup in its day to day use? Are you happy with the setup? Was it complicated?
