  1. You have no idea how happy this video makes me. My school got us the lowest tiers of the red 2-in-1 and they are terrible, most of the 32gb of memory is taken up by the windows install, 70-80% of the 2gb of ram is used by windows at idle they constantly run out of space, especially when trying to update, the delay on it switching from pc to tablet mode is sometimes as long as 10 seconds and half the time when you switch to tablet mode the keyboard and mouse don't disable so you end up typing and clicking accidentally and the only solution is to flip it back to pc mode and then flip it again to tablet mode. Besides all of that the single most irritating thing about them is the fact they got them for us to use as textbooks but you can't use them in portrait mode as a tablet (Like you would hold a book) because the viewing angles on the screen are so bad that your eyes see the screen at different brightnesses so you instantly end up with a headache. As the IT class, we have students from every other class in the school bringing us these stupid things to "fix" every day. I cannot tell you how much I hate these things. I haven't used mine as a book at all and I just leave it at home. My girlfriend uses it sometimes for writing but even she has told me about how terrible the screen is and how it lags constantly. TLDR; Dont buy them.
  2. Well after talking to him some more and explaning how if we want to avoid the inflation we would have to go to the high end he just said fuck it ill manage money a bit better this month and lets go with a 1080 Ti. Thanks for all your help
  3. A 1070 should have no problem running most games at 1080p60 but again it differs game to game, with the current GPU market being so off I'm not sure where you live but here in Canada the value per dollar for the 1070 and 1080 are almost the same so take it as you will. PS "Never one...Without the other"
  4. Alright so after some deliberating and talking, he doesn't mind waiting and saving more, he just doesn't want to have to replace anything anytime soon. So I went onto PassMark and looked up the scores for the 580 8gb, 1060 6gb, 1070, 1080 and 1080 Ti. Then I went onto pcpartpicker and selected one GPU from the list for each tier and looked at its current price from a major retailer vs its price from 180 day ago aprox (Which card I based this on was what was currently in stock from a reputable brand name) and then I calculated its G3D Mark/$ based on those prices and it very clearly shows how the market is fucked in the mid range. These prices are also in Canadian dollars because that's where I am.
  5. So if the Market is screwing with the Mid range GPUs so much should I just advise him to save some more and go for a 1070?
  6. A friend of mine recently got a much better job than he was in previously and hasn't had a desktop/laptop of any kind for a few years. Naturally, he asked me to price out a rig for him so I said sure. I chose to go with an AMD GPU because of the price and the fact that he doesn't play AAA games on the pc, used mostly for e-sports titles and rts games. Looking at the prices of AMD GPUs at the moment I don't think I want to go with them anymore. Crazy high prices and limited availability on most models are pushing me to Nvidia. I'm worried about future proofing for him because I don't want him to have to upgrade for a while so I was looking at an RX 580 8gb but now you can get a 1060 6gb for less than that so which should I go with?
