Xiauj reacted to Mr.Humble in New 21:9 1440p Ultrawide
Hey everyone,
ultimately I decided and got the Acer Predator X34P.
It's 34", 3440x1440, 120 Hz (OC), G-sync, IPS, height, tilt, swivel, 4 port USB 3.0 hub, ambient lighting (bottom of the panel lights up in a color you want, very nice for night gaming) and the price was a hair over $1000, so around 900€.
I ultimately decided not to get the 43" as that would ultimately be too big for my desk, and effectively I wouldn't be able to even have my laptop open on it.
I'm really satisfied overall, with only a slight gripe about the stand, which is too deep, making my new monitor sit around 5 cm closer to me than my old LG, and the fact that the curve is not as pronounced, at around 1900R compared to the LG's 1800R. However, these two things counter each other quite well ?
Thanks everyone for helping me make this decision, I'm sure this monitor will serve me well for years to come.

Xiauj reacted to LAwLz in Raspberry Pi 4! USB 3.0, Dual 4K60 HDMI, Up to 4GB DDR4, Gigabit LAN And More!
Looks like a really good update. Here are some benchmarks.
Some highlights:
The new CPU is much more powerful. In Linpack the new Pi is 3-4 times as fast as the 3B+. The move from LPDDR2 to LPDDR4 has increased the memory throughput from about 2500MBps, to around 4200MBps. The GPU has been upgraded from a VideoCore IV to a VideoCore VI. In Quake 3 Arena, the performance has increased from 27.5 FPS to 41 FPS. That's around a 50% increase. Ethernet performance has also been given a massive performance boost. From around 240Mbps on the Pi 3B+, to around 900Mbps on the Pi 4. The WiFi on 5GHz (not 2.4GHz) has been slightly improved. In his tests, it went from 97.6Mbps (Pi 3B+) to 114Mbps (Pi 4). USB throughput has received a MASSIVE performance boost. The throughput when connecting a USB SSD went from around 20Mbps (Pi 3B+, and basically any other Pi) to over 300Mbps (Pi 4). That's over 15 times as fast. The microSD slot has been upgraded. The read speeds seem to have doubled, and the write speeds are around 50% faster. Also worth noting:
The new board is significantly bigger than the other models, which means a lot of cases will be incompatible. It is 4 grams lighter than the RPi 3 B+ (46g vs 50g) The SoC is now 28nm instead of 40nm like the old one. The RPi 4 runs much hotter than the previous models. It might be a good idea to get a heatsink or maybe even a case with a fan if you plan on putting it under constant heavy load. The power consumption is up too compared to the RPi 3 B+. Both idle consumption (around 0.1w more) and load consumption (around 1w more). The current software does not support booting from Ethernet or USB, but that is being worked on. This is important because right now the USB and Ethernet are both significantly faster than the microSD slot.
According to the blog post, yes. The PoE hat is still compatible with the RPi 4:

Quite an exciting launch from the Raspberry Pi team:

CURRENTLY ON PREORDER, just a heads up
These specs look freaking awesome, can't wait to get mine. Also quite neat to see them sell 1, 2, oatmeal and 4GB models, for 35, 45, and 55$.
I'm not a fan of the micro HDMI ports though, I'd rather have seen stacked full size HDMI ports, but whatever.
I'd love to see where retropie goes with this model, maybe full speed high res N64? owo

Xiauj reacted to LAwLz in Samsung CRG9 - awesome monitor, totally ignored so far
I've had it for ~3 weeks now.
It's a fantastic monitor, but not worth the price.
This is what I would recommend as well.
For gaming, and editing I would understand wanting a really wide monitor, but for most other things I think having multiple monitors is a lot easier.
I can never fullscreen a program ever again.

One of my bucket list guns, an M4.
It'll make a nice addition to the family. Hopefully I can find a way to make it the more tacticool semi auto. Don't think I'll go as overboard with that on it though.

Smol bluetooth controller.
It aligned up with some other controllers for comparison.

NECROOOOOOO
Yes it's been hilariously long but exams got in the way and sheer lack of will meant that I didn't really do much. But now, I've gotten myself the dream card, an R9 Nano, I've gotten an A300M-STX, I've gotten an R5 2400G, and I'm waiting on a much better M.2 to PCIe x4 riser. I'm also designing a new case because lmao why not.

I just got this today.
A battery powered soldering iron.
It uses 4 AA batteries, and claims to last to up to 2 hours.
I'm wiring up some 12v computer fans for cooling my mom's greenhouse for the summer (powered by a 12v deep cycle vehicle battery), I can't really bring my soldering station outside so that's why I got the battery powered soldering iron.
That's a latching power button (that I also got today) so all that she needs to do is push it to turn the fans on/off.
I'm going to 3D print a holder and mount for the button today.
Here is some temperature charts for alkaline and NI-MH batteries.

Yep, we're amazed too.. she's shot up this last few weeks. she is now big enough to start getting things off side tables and such... joy /s ?
We think she'll actually grow to be taller than my sister's dog Charlie. Can't find a picture of him ATM.
We love her, even though she can be a pest. Best way is distraction to overcome most of her bad habits we've found. I just bought some "chukit ultra sqeaker" balls, she loves them and will come running no matter what she's doing unless food is involved, LOL.
Here's another pic I found of my Henry that I lost though, at his favourite place in the world

You realize that, if you try using more than that one port at a time at the full 5Gbps of USB 3.0, you will not get full speed on any ports? All seven of those ports share the same 5Gbps.

I said I'd rant about this... so I will. I think I can rant about this here.
I'll still put it in spoiler tags.
I just wanted to get this out there.
The splatoon community is usually pretty inclusive and accepting. My friend wasn't looking for admiration or support from anyone there, he just wanted to get this off his chest. He figured a public forum where before all this, he got along with everyone and was generally easy going would be the easiest way to start coming out.
Instead he was forced out and attacked.

I'm overwhelmed... This is my latest haul I got for 80$. The computers might look super boring, but they are NOT! There are three MSI SLI ready z97 motherboards here, and the rest are sandy/ivy bridge boards. The dummy thick case on the right is a dual socket 771 server board with 8 RAM slots. I don't even know what to do with all this, but holy shit. But yeah, these cases look really deceiving, when I first saw them I thought "oh boy, more 775 PCs", welp, I WAS WRONG. The monitor was a pretty decent 1080p monitor, but it's busted. Oh well, I didn't pay for it so no loss!

It was about three months ago. I became obsessed with the game. I'm honestly glad. It helped with me getting back into drawing, and (for the most part, I'll rant about that later in the LGBT thread) it has a great community also, so I've met some really cool people and some became friends even.

Even though I've never even owned an Intel Mac before I got this, It's super nostalgic for me too. Back in 2007 when my cousin got one, the main computer of my house was a 400mhz Pentium II, I'd use it to watch Youtube and browse Gamefaqs and stuff. So as you can imagine, I was used to slow, pages taking their time, frequent freezing, 4 fps Youtube videos, etc. My mind was completely blown when I used the Macbook. When I think back to it, it was also my first encounter with a multicore processor, and my first encounter with a 64 bit processor, even though I didn't even know what that meant at the time.
