Any you just need to tell in BIOS that header to be voltage controlled. SYS_FAN1 is always a good choice.

My Dell XPS 15 arrived yesterday - I'm actually typing this post from it.  It's the new spec 7590, with the 1080p IPS display (what's the point of 4K on a 15" monitor?) with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB PCIe SSD.

    The full specs are:
    i7-9750H (6 cores, 12 threads, 2.6GhZ base, 4.5GhZ boost
    2*8GB 2666MhZ DDR4 SODIMM
1TB PCIe SSD of unspecified brand
    GTX 1650
130W power adapter, plus USB-C charging over Thunderbolt

And they moved the webcam back to the top of the screen, where it belongs! YAAAAY!

I drove and waddled to my mail service today to pick up some more goodies. This is a brief/equipment case I got from a Fleabay vendor.

It's kinda sorta a match for the little case I keep my impact driver bits in (I have four more of the little cases for future use).

The panels are ABS but I have several cases that have ABS panels and they have been holding up just fine for several years. This case will outlive me.

A short while back, I showed off a router set I got. One of the things in the set was an edge/circle guide but it didn't have a case for it. I had thought about getting a Pelican case to keep it in but, besides being rather heavy, they were just too darned expensive. Then I found this case on Fleabay for a much more reasonable price and pulled the trigger on it.

Here I have the guide, the dust collection hood, and a hose adapter laid out inside the case (there is also a pivot point for when using the guide as a circle guide but it's in my router case and I was too pooped form waddling errands to pull it out; old age and 111 degree heat is just a bit much for this old broad).

I'll probably play around a bit with the layout before I start working on the foam.

Speaking about the foam, I was very pleasantly surprised to find out it is pick apart foam (that wasn't mentioned in the product description) so that will simplify making the pockets needed for everything. I'll be working on it over the weekend and I'll post the results on the Tool Thread.

I'm planning on getting a table saw and also make a router table later this year (I need to upgrade my shed first once the trailer court gets rid of a dead palm tree) and I will need featherboards for them. Featherboards are used to keep stock pushed against the fence in a table saw or a router table. Rockler put these on sale recently so I glommed onto five of them while I could.

As received from the factory, these are designed to slide into the miter track on a saw table or router table tabletop. The silver colored bars go into the miter slot and expand in width when the knobs are tightened, locking the feather board in the slot. However, these can be easily adapted to T-slots by removing the silver bars and their screws and replace them with T-bolts screwed into the knobs. This will give far more options for keeping work flush against a fence and the table, especially on the router table.

When I build the router table, it will be too heavy for my old carcass to lug around so I plan on intalling it on a gravity rise stand that easily will allow me to go from a horizontal orientation to a vertical one that will let me roll it along like a handtruck (the table saw I'm planning on getting will do the same thing). I'm planning on using a Bosch gravity rise stand but, besides being too low for a router table, the router motor hanging below the table with not fit through the stand when in the vertical position so I will need to make a small frame to raise the table up to a better height for working and to give the clearance needed to allow the stand to fold up.

I've used 80/20 series aluminum extrusions for various things, such as a frome for a computer case and the bridge over a winow so I could hang my speakers, TV, monitors, and a bulletin board from it. However, the 15 series extrusions are overkill for the frame for the router table, not to mention too expensive and heavy (I'm having to really watch the weight on all this to avoid overloading the gravity rise stand).

The 30 series extrusions would be perfect for the frame but 80/20 only has a black plastic filler strip to go into the T-slots and I would prefer aluminum filler strips for appearance, durability, and to give the extrusions a bit more strength. According to 80/20's online catalogue, the filler strips for both the 15 and 40 series are close to the size needed for the the 30 series extrusions but the only way to know for sure was to try them out. So, I bought a whopping 1" long piece of 30 series extrusion and a 2" long 40 series filler strip (and paid an outrageous price for shipping); I already had a scrap piece of 15 series filler strip.

Here is what the extrusion looks like.

The extrusion is 30mm x 30mm. The center hole is sized for tapping for M8 screws. They are available with 1 slot, two slots (like the one in the photo), two slots on opposite sides of the extrusion, three slots, and four slots (I'll be using all types except the four slot type).

The 40 series filler strip looks like this.

While both are a very tight fit (surprise! I was expecting a bit loose), the 15 series fits best by a tiny margin. The strips won't sit flush, though, because slot edges of the 15 (and 40) series extrusions are rounded and they are more square on the 30 series (one reason for the tighter than expected fit). Sometime over the weekend, I'm going to try filing a small chamfer on the top edges of a T-slot to see if it will improve the fit. If it does, when I do get the extrusions, I can dig out the my Daddy's old 1 HP router and crude (but still effective), homebrew router table and use a V bit to quickly chamfer the edges of the T-slots.

The basic network center of my house down in the basement.  It gets the job done keeping all the ones and zeros flowing efficiently throughout the house and all my networked devices are happy.  The next step is I need to learn how to do a really good network diagram of everything in the house, and not just the basement that you see here.  I usually have about 40-50 IP addresses connected at a given time (there is an abundance of wireless smart home devices at work).

The reason the server is mounted in the job site box was an experiment to see if was feasible to have something bolted to the floor so it would be hard to walk off with the security footage if someone broke into the house.

The media converters were an experiment to see about providing an air-gap/non conductive break between my cable modem and router from lightning electrical surges coming in on the coax cable. Same reason for the separate 8 port POE switch was so in case of lighting surge from a camera it wouldn't take out my main switch.

The orange patch cables go to wall jacks throughout the house, the yellow patch cables connect to items in the basement, and the red jacks are for the security cameras.

Getting the whole thing in frame was kind of annoying and I'm no photographer.

I put heatsinks on the RAM.

Here's a view from the front. It's a 4U chassis. You can ignore the bottom server.

And of course. All those beautiful threads:

    Hey,
So whilst I'm in the middle of swapping out My current case and moving to a new one and adding a couple extra parts, My knowledge is a bit rusty about what Case-Fans are good at the moment . I'm thinking about getting some NOCTUA Case Fans or possibly beQuiet! Case Fans whilst I'm swapping to My new SilverStone GD09B HTPC ATX Case.

    My setup will be:
So, does anyone know of some pretty good 120mm Fans and 80mm Fans? Preferably mostly the same performance/aesthetic wise
I believe NOCTUA has some really good fans but I dunno cos' like I said earlier, My knowledge is a bit rusty, lol.

    Thanks

Open the Nvidia Control Panel, and set a custom resolution of 1920x1080 @ 120Hz. Then you simply apply that custom resolution and you're all set.

Today was like Christmas in July. I picked up all kinds of goodies today. First, I hit Ace Hardware (poor Ace Hardware) for some silcone spray and microwave cleaner and saw they had some more clamps on sale. Being the clamp whore I am, I just had to snag them.

They're cute little things. I wish Ace would put their Bessey F clamps on sale.

From there, I went to my mail service and picked a couple more goodies I had ordered. The first one is a MilesCraft Drlll Mate.

Years ago (around forty), I had a Portalign drill guide that was similar to this one. Back then, the Poratalign was considered the best (and pretty much the only) one around. The problem was, the guide rods tended to rust very easily, even if kept oiled, and it never worked well even after I cleaned the rust off. This guide rods on this one look to be made of better steel. Just the same, I put some Liquid Wrench Silicone Spray on them since the stuff claims to have a corrosion inhibitor in it (we will see about that). The drill guide seems to be very well made.

My only complaint was the clam shell packaging (aka Rage Wrap). I first tried scissors to open it. That killed my hands so I tried aircraft snips. They work well on sheet metal but the packaging rudely laughed at them. Then I tried a knife; the laughter intensified. That's when I got mad and, after saying a few words Mama told me not to use, I took the blasted thing to my bandsaw. That chewed through the welded plastic like a hot knife through melted butter. I wished I had though of that a long time ago. ?

The other item I picked up was this cute little case.

Adorable, isn't it? However, imagine my shock when I opened it and found this inside.

Ok, truth be told, it was the case I was surprised to get since Home Depot didn't show it on their web page. The router is a 2 1/4 HP liitle (?) thing that comes with a fixed base and a plunge base. I used to use routers like this back when I was working cabinet shops back in '69 and '71. The only time I've used one since then was with my Daddy's little Craftsman 1 HP router (back in the day when Craftsman still made good tools) on a homebrew router table. I now have it but every time I used it, I was frustrated by the lack of pony power. Home Despot Depot was selling the Bosch with an added edge/circle guide and I was going to need a decent router in the not too distant future so I pulled the trigger on it. This is the edge/circle guide (it came in a separate box).

The edge guide came with two lock screws for the plunge base and two more for the fixed base. I put the screws on the bases to keep them handy and not get lost. That worked fine on the plunge base but ran ito a problem with the fixed base. With the screws installed, the base would not fit back into the case properly (mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble). Here are the screws:

I was about to cut holes in the case where it was in the way of the screws when I hit upon the idea of taking the little heat gun I have for shrinking heat shrinks and softening the plastic enough to let me push dimples into it with a small block of wood. It's not exactly pretty but it worked.

Sadly, when I made a Taco Bell run this evening the driver's side window lift mechanism on my F150 decided to break so I'm going to have to get that fixed early next week (mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble). For now, I have the open window covered up with a plastic trash bag taped on with gaffer's tape to keep dirt, bugs and the *&^%$#@! feral cats out of my truck.
