Good morning all! Update on the laptop:

I have some upsetting news.

Spoiler

I think My laptop's hard-drive is (almost) dead :( Looks like I might have to order a replacement which is gonna be such a pain in the ass; then I gotta clone everything over and sort some system-related files.

F   for My Laptop-HDD :(

Great excuse to upgrade to an SSD. ;)

@MEC-777 Yeah about that... I hate to counter You for a second there xD;) ..but I don't even know if it would fit (physically) in the chassis. I'm still trying to find that out, gonna try and maaaybe open the chassis this week or next. I'm assuming what it's in there is a 2.5"(?) HDD when I received this laptop but I can't be 100% sure on that yet. It's such an old model so it would take ages to find an accurate/out-dated-ish spec-sheet lol.

@Xiauj Laptops have used 2.5" drives for a very long time now. You should be able to simply swap in any 2.5" SSD no problem. What specific model is it (the laptop)?

Really? Cool xD < -- Today I learned. Only reason I say this is because I very very rarely ever touch laptop hardware lol, desktop hardware I'm much more stable/familiar with ;).

    Dell Inspiron 5520

Just been looking online and I dunno if an SSD will fit size wise and if it's the correct connector etc.. just found this video:

Are connectors for 2.5" HDDs and 2.5" SSDs the exact same? I can't remember lol, haven't really used any SSDs before.

@Xiauj Yeah, that one definitely used a standard 2.5" HDD.

2.5" HDD's/SSD are all pretty much the same size standard. The connector is also standard. It will fit and plug in just fine. ;)

Ah Ok cool, neat! :) To be fair, I might try and see if I can spot a 2.5" 1TB-SSD on PCPartPicker perhaps. Gonna do some research on which is good atm, I have no idea xD
