Sydlexic Deity reacted to Dargenfire in Ryzen may well make 2 Gamers 1 CPU economically viable
    (TL;DR at bottom)

So, all the hype around Ryzen is starting to cool off. As I staved off boredom today, looking back through older Linustechtips videos, I came across the 7 Gamers 1 CPU video and decided to watch the original instead, going all the way back to the 2 Gamers 1 CPU video.

Watching this video reminded me of the time when this video had just come out and, being a teenager without a six-figure income, I had tried to find out if it was cheaper to make this rig instead of two identical performance-matched rigs. In short, the answer was no, with the CPU being the main cost restriction. The price delta going from a consumer 4 core up to an 8 core was too much on Intel's side, and AMD's FX 8xxx or 9xxx offerings simply wouldn't run that well on 4 cores per rig.

This stumbling block made me a little bit sad, as the idea of sharing certain components between two rigs to save money seemed like it had a lot of potential.

But here comes Ryzen. While we should be taking the pricing rumours with a grain of salt, all I can do is wait and hope that AMD will make the right move and force Intel into a pricing war.

    So without further ado…

I chose an i7 6900K on Intel's side because AMD has been keen to compare their 8/16 top model Ryzen CPU with it, and their benchmarks show they are fairly equal in terms of performance.

As You can see from the parts list, by only changing the necessary components between a 2 PC rig and a normal rig, the 2 PC rig is just over double the price of the single rig. This defeats the cost benefit of the double rig.

But what if we went with a Ryzen CPU for both rigs? This will involve a bit of guessing, as there is no set price on Ryzen CPUs or on any AM4 motherboards as of yet. For the CPUs, we’ll go with the rumoured USD $500 for the 8 core and USD $350 for the 4 core. For the AMD motherboard, we’ll go with a worst case scenario pricing-wise, and price it at USD $200 - Roughly the same as the X99 motherboard (enthusiast platform) used in the Intel double rig.

On AMDs side things get more interesting. There actually is a substantial saving going from an individual rig to a double rig. This is due to AMDs (theoretically priced) offerings. These rumoured prices follow the business model of getting more bang for your buck as you buy higher tier models (while the jump from a 6700K to a 6900K is over double the price). This, combined with the fact that the AM4 platforms unifying these different models means there will be no delta in motherboard pricing. This results in the possibility of 2 Gamers 1 CPU now being a viable money saving option, even with the added cost of an unRAID Plus License.

Of course, this is all hypothetical. This could well go down the drain if AMD prices Ryzen similar to Intel's current offering. But hey! One can hope!

What are your thoughts on this?
(Please let me know if I've made a typo or mistake somewhere)

    TL:DR
(Going from rumoured pricing of USD$500 and $350 for Ryzen's 8-core and 4-core CPUs respectively)
A Ryzen based 2 Gamers 1 CPU machine offers a substantial per-rig discount over a Ryzen based normal rig, while Intel's current offerings mean that an Intel based 2 Gamers 1 CPU machine is less economically viable per-rig over an Intel based normal rig. Ryzen may well make 2 Gamers 1 CPU a lucrative possibility.

Not really. You might possibly find a GTX 1060 that doesn't require it, but it will most likely be a cut-down version of the card.
I'd say a 1050ti would be your best bet at this point.

BIOS has nothing to do with it. Yes, you can replace the GT 620 with a GTX 1050 Ti and not miss a beat. Slapping a new GPU into an old, cheap prebuilt is a great way to get a decent console killer at a really sweet price

Go to wagnardmobile.com and install DDU, then run the program, let it reboot your system into safe mode, select "Clean and shut down", then unplug your system and remove the GPU when it's finished. Put the new GPU in, hop straight on the interwebz and download GeForce Experience or use the drivers CD that comes with your card.

Hiya - Firstly what country are you buying in? It'll be much easier to give you a starting build if we know that
Also - overclocking ok or nah?

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VjDLwV

From the information I have - this build here should suit you very well.
Feel free to change out your preferred storage and case options if you want to go cheaper, and there are multiple 1070's to choose from.
It's basically what PCpartpicker recommends for editing... so it should be all good
The CPU cooler is only there if you want to swap out the 6700 for a 6700K. If you don't want overclocking then get rid of the cooler as well.

    Hope that helps

Both the 1070 and 1080 are faster than the Titan X in every way except for water surface rendering, and then there is a very minimal difference. If you're doing massive videos in 4k resolution, perhaps you will benefit from a 1080 (The Titan XP is basically overkill for everything atm) , but otherwise the 1070 will definitely be fine.

The CA-3602, and Z313 are both relatively solid systems.
Just go for whatever you can get cheaper, as the specs are relatively similar.

The Logitech Z313 has a slightly higher wattage and focus solely on build and sound quality.
The Cyber Acoustics 3602 has bigger bass and small highs (e.g. make it appeal for the boom booms rather than the quality) but does have a few extra controls and adapters you may find useful.

The Creative Labs T12 is absolutely not worth the price. As for the lower spec Logitech Z200, well, it's lower spec obviously, so if you can get the Z313 for the same price then why wouldn't you?

Hope that helps and good luck with your purchase

Thanks a lot for the answers, guys. I must admit that I was pretty sure the Z313 was the best option. However, I've seen a bunch of people complaining about Logitech as a company, hence making me doubt the purchase. There will always be haters, sure. But I was mostly scared that there was some truth behind these comments.

Sydlexic Deity reacted to Nord in GTX 970 not working
So that means the card did work prior?
Because if thats the case you either messed up somewhere or some windows update did. In some cases windows actually pushes display drivers over the standard windows update, which can be both proper nvidia drivers (though usualy outdated) or some garbage ones.
(Systemproperties -> windows updates -> installed updates) and see if you maybe find some Nvidia update or something that hints to be a GPU driver in there & uninstall it.

If that does not help try this:
boot up in safemode, use DDU again to kill everything nvidia ever installed. (also remove gforce experiance).
    Reboot
go into safemode again and go to device manager, where you rightclick on the 970 and choose "uninstall device".
Boot the PC down ->  remove the GPU from the system -> boot up again using your Intel onboard GPU & let the system sit for a few minutes, if some background windows process starts working up, let it run untill its done - if not power down the pc again.
Install your 970 again and download this driver for it: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/110603/en-us
Only install GPU Driver & if you need it HDSounddriver.

If after all this the problem is still there, you can still try a fresh OS install but if that does not help either, its most probably a hardware problem with, as allready mentioned, probably even the motherboard.

Also keep in mind that if you bought the PC and also paid for assembly / windows install or it stated "comes pre-installed with windows" and/or is was a full pre-built system or something, you can just send it back and let the company deal with the problem and ask for a price reduction or something due to them delivering you a non working product.
