In anticipation of moving to a new house, Linus tours through memory lane, reminiscing about the video projects and upgrades done in the old house.

Don't worry, Linus. Dennis can put a foot hole in your new garage's ceiling.

maybe 1-2 degrees. not worth it if you had to buy the fans but if you have em why not. note the it iwll be more nosey as more fans = more nose

Rendering doesn't even use sli. They just use the cards on their own if it supports using multiple gpu's. You can use any combination then.

All new games do not support sli.

They support it but it's not maintained by anyone so this happens.

Rendering depends on the application but in things like blender it can be a +100% performance since that one can render on any number of any kind of gpu's. It doesn't use sli however it just uses the cards.

Watch this video, I think you need to remove the heatsink first which will require new thermal paste and potentially new thermal pads if you damage them. If the card is old, you may benefit from changing the thermal compound anyway

Makes sense. I might as well sell my second 1080 as upgrading to a 12th gen CPU will probably make it feel like a new GPU even in the two games that still use both GPU's.

A Silver reacted to jaslion in Do I need new thermal pads when re-pasting my GPU?
Just a small addon. Ripping a thermal pad in 2 or something isn't the end of the world you can just put it back together and it will be fine. However if it gets ripped into many pieces yeah tough luck go and get a new one.

as long as you dont damage it, it's fine to re-use
some pads are easily damaged upon disassembly, so take note of that

you can take the opportunity to swap it anyways

as long as it's not dry and conductive, it should be fine

Alright, I looked up the specs for a computer that has exactly the same characteristics as mine (same motherboard, cpu, graphics card) and it says that it can support 32GB RAM at most.

A Silver reacted to Eigenvektor in Holding power button with no power resets CMOS?
Good question. If that's not the case, I don't know. On the other hand a battery shouldn't be that expensive? I recently had to replace the one on my mother's board because her CMOS would reset every shutdown. I think we payed about 3-5€ for a double-pack (CR 2032).

Maybe the battery isn't "dead" so much as close to dead so it can still hold on for quite some time before data is lost (just guessing here). You'd probably have to remove it and use a battery tester to check.

Sounds more like your CMOS battery is dead. So long as you don't unplug your computer you probably don't notice it, but it resets once it has no external power. You could simply unplug it for a minute without "draining" and see if it also resets the CMOS.

    This is normal and correct.

Steam and Chrome show download speeds in MB. Microsoft Store apparently in Mb.
    MB vs Mb:
MB stands for megabyte, Mb for megabit. 1 megabyte contains 8 megabits, which means that 70Mb equals to 8,75MB. Keeping in mind some rounding up/down either way and the speed of the servers, that looks correct what you are getting.

Correct me if I am wrong but the best way to do it would be to get an external thunderbolt 3 GPU enclosure and then just plug the thunderbolt 3 into what ever device you need to use, granted you may need to get a thunderbolt 3 card for your PC

If you have a spare PSU try that to see if your PSU as at fault. Also look on ebay and get a cheap GPU to try that (or use the motherboard video output but I have no idea if Ryzen has onboard graphics)

So windows is now taking longer to boot on my crucial m.2. When I first installed windows it would only take a few seconds. Now it takes upwards of 40seconds to even a minute. I had a problem and had to wipe all the partitions and do a fresh install. That is when this started occurring. Any ideas how to fix?

Maybe get a fan hub with sata power to be safe. I know two fans is fine (as I am doing that) but it can just about run two fans so I would not really risk 3 fans.
