  1. Answer turned out to be both stupid and easy - installing Dell Power manager and setting to Optimized or High Perfomnace
  2. After owning this laptop over a year I've encountered the same problem a lot of other owners did - CPU and GPU power throttling. I've tried almost every method to mitigate it (Undervolt using Intel XTU, ThrottleStop; deleted Intel DPTF; liquid metal, so thermal are no issue), yet still I get this weird situation: Here full system info: A there any other solutions to this madness or I should put roses on this laptop and save up for a new one?
  3. Are there any open source or free alternatives to Primocache? Since my SSD only 120GB(split between Win10 and Manjaro), I want to only store some program and game files and the rest left on hard drive. Tried Intel RST but no accelerate button appeared after leaving some empty and un allocated space
  4. Yeah, Pop OS only takes 18 Gig with ability to safely resize partition(as sayed above) and now I have to deel with nightmare of somehow moving Microsoft Recovery Partition
  5. From what I've read, perfomance could be gained by compiling by yourself, so probably Linux will have slight edge. Anyway, I decided to keep current setup, but new problem arose - there is not enough space on SSD for Windows updates. I choped of 10 Gigs from Pop OS, but MRP seperates unallocated space and neither GParted nor Windows thigny could move it. Is reinstall the only option?
  6. I could buy new SSD(probably Intel 660p) in few months, so for now I'd like to know whether Linux has better performance in Blender, because it a bit of hassle to switch between OS (tried QEMU but couldn't get PCIe passthrough) and, again, storage space
  7. After few weeks since I bought Dell G5 5587 with i7-8750h and 1050Ti, installed Pop!_ OS and used it for productivity ,I really missed some software(MathCAD, some Steam games, which refuse to work with Proton). So, I installed Windows 10 Pro for WS(mainly for ReFS and less bloat). Aaaaaand almost immediately maxed out my poor 120GB SSD. Also, it a bit a hassle to first boot to Pop than to Windows. So what better for perfomance and storage space: keep current setup(Pop for Blender, Godot, and other productivity) and Windows for everything else or to leave only Windows? Does Linux perfomance boost and lack of BS worth a bit of work?
  8. Because of some SW and games which doesn't play(ha ha) nicely with wine(Steep), I tried setting up Windows VM with IOMMU following this guide: After doing all this,I got an error: And how to fix it? I'm using Dell G5 5587 with i7-8750H(which supports VT-d) and GTX 1050 Ti
  9. So far the best I found is DELL G3 17 3779 but it got a meh screen. Battery and weight are non issues because there are outlets almost everywhere and weight doesn't bother at all.
  10. After few months of struggling without laptop at uni, it came time to buy one.Budget is around 1000 Euro, CPU:i5 8300h ,Ryzen equivalent or higher, GPU:atleast 4 GB of memory(preferably NVidia coz Blender),SSD and probably the most important: Screen. As color accurate as possible (hopefully 100% sRGB) and dE approaching 2. And design better be minimalist, not gamery
  11. After watching latest video about Linux adventures, I installed Pop OS, but want to do some tweaks. 1. How to hide GRUB and set Windows to default? 2. How to create icon or shortcut in Windows to boot to Pop? 3. Is there better alternative to GRUB?
  12. It actually pretty fancy one with 4 slots 3 PCI E and NVME, it just refuses to startup properly
  13. After sorry experience with chinese X79 mobo, I've decided to hunt down used brand one. But, my CPU is Xeon E5 2650 v2 and I'm not sure which mobos will support it. Also, what is the best place in Europe to buy one? I need to provide check so hopefully it will be some kind of shop
