You don't need to delid the CPU. That actually involves taking the metal cover off and changing pastes that directly touch the actual CPU. Don't do that on your first build, or until you feel comfortable doing it in the future. Liquid metal is for when you take the heat spreader (the metal cover with the writing, or the "lid") off. It does better at transferring heat then the standard paste that intel applies themselves. Also, the CPU you have is soldered between the heat spreader and the CPU so delidding would take longer.

This video includes the 8700k (previous version of 9700k, it install the same) and same AIO that you have, so the installation of both parts will be in the video for you to see. This video should also should show you how to apply thermal paste. I don't recommend using the paste intel provides. You can use the paste that comes applied on the cooler or paste that you buy. If you use paste that you bought (not LM), then wipe the paste off the AIO since you don't want to mix them.

Appreciate the input. I'm moving to this new display from a non-ips no-gsync 1080p 60hz 23ms monitor so I'm sure it will be a huge leap. Decided to go with a better display rather than 2080 TI.

I'm pretty familiar with the silicon lottery, and understand the risks. For me it's more of a consideration of will future games be taking advantage of more cores and hyperthreading or are clock speeds going to remain supreme.

I'll be honest, that sounds like a pipe dream. Achieving 2080/2080TI performance at $300 price point... roughly 25%... at a tier level AMD never even touched... very hard to swallow. If it is, I do hope they release/announce it today at CES before I order my current setup. All I know is historically, when they get to the higher end, they charge more and perform less for GPUs... cough cough Vega.

You can easily run higher fps on ryzen, Intel is better for it- but its easily manageable.

I'm tight on room, don't like wasting space when not really necessary, and its a bit cheaper without greatly compromising function. Biggest issue with it is the mATX AMD boards seem to be quite lack luster. Hoping the new batch may be better. Do you happen to know any x470 boards that could fit well in the selected case? I would be willing to use an ITX board if necessary for better quality.

I live in barracks so limited room, frequent moves. Compact seems to be the way to go for the time being, and as I'm not trying to go extreme with components, I found it to be worthwhile.

Well, the 2200G will also lose SMT (so 4C/4T vs 6C/8T), and some cache. I think that, at the price you posted, the 2600 is the sweet spot for gaming.
