No…. Do not ask for people to start attacking your house. That’s an incredibly horrible idea.

Any PC will work as a homelab. Instal proxmox and start virtualizing environments. Set up pfsense in a vm to start handling vlans, set up different machines on different vlans, maybe get some managed physical switches and put different devices on vlans, set up an AD server, etc etc.

What is the order of the devices… the order really matters for networking. And the way you seemingly have it is incorrect.

If the order is wrong, things may work, but routing will be super confused, you will get lots of dropped packets as they can’t correctly figure out which way is “out”, which all results in lots of increased latency and reduced speed.

    It needs to be:
    1) wire from ISP (whatever medium they use, fiber or coax)
    2) modem
    3) router
    4) everything else (including switches, PC’s, and if you do have another router, which you really shouldn’t have, it would go here as well, plugged into one of the upstream switches)

Next time, sketch a diagram with how your network is laid out and connected together. These kinds of things need visuals to assist in diagnosis.

Glad you got the problem sorted out, but I suspect that was by luck. I get the impression that you're either behind several layers of NAT/firewall, there are multiple DHCP servers on the network or something is hooked up incorrectly.

Wait, what. Google nest IS a router.

You need a router to be the first thing after the modem…

Id stop buying things and get this sorted out first. You probably don’t need to buy anything anyways. Give us a list of everything you current have so we can tell you how you need to set this up.

that's how routing works. your residential internet connection only has one public IP address, each of them has a unique addres on your LAN, and the router routes the traffic to the right place trough a method called "NAT".

you need to forward the port on whatever device is handling NAT, which is usually either your router or modem.

its just that i sounded like if u front mount ur always or very fast is going to lose the fluid in the loop

You certainly can, but finding the correct and compatible glycol based coolant can be annoying. If everything is aluminum, or everything is copper, then DI water and biocide will be fine. If there is mixed metals, it just gets more complicated and annoying.

what am I not correct about? All AIO mounting is more or less fine, as long as at least a portion of the radiator is above the pump, and the feed tube to the pump will never have air enter it (so either tubes facing down with a top mount rad, or tubes at the bottom on a vertical mount rad). There isn’t much else to it…. It’s just physics.

If OP does this, just make sure to figure out if this loop has any mixed metals… if not, DI water plus some biocide is ideal. If it is mixed metals, I wouldn’t even bother trying to flush it, because refilling it would potentially be a massive headache. Could use car antifreeze as that’s usually designed for mixed metal application, but not always a guarantee.

I know that they have cheaper stuff, but I was looking at what they have that would be equivalent to what this youtuber is trying to make. A high-end router.

Pity that they can't make reliable hardware.

Pfsense or opnsense already exist, and are both free. Finding cheap old PC’s to run them is easy…

I don’t think there is much room in this space for yet another solution. As said above, it’s the maintenance and upkeep that makes this difficult. Continually patching software is difficult, but pfsense has enterprise money behind it, thankfully.

Watched the video. I don't see anything special about this router. There are several existing products that can run pfsense or opensense that have all the features he was suggesting and more.

I wish him luck, but I don't see the project becoming a viable business venture.

He talks a lot about the hardware and that's the easy part. The difficult part is the software and supporting it long term.

I agree, it does so smart. It might have something to do with your setup if it isn't working. Particularly if it is visualized.
Ecc is also just a nice to have. Been running without it at home for over 6 years and I haven't had any problems.

Do not over clock when using a storage solution. I had issues when testing if pbo was enabled. After turning that off it has been perfect.
Disable over clocks and check your hardware and cables.

Once again a useless recommendation without mentioning the reasons and caveats/drawbacks.

    1) it's highly dependent on equipment and environment so that's not universally true, wider channels only get poorer latency if there is interference.
    2) It seems 20MHz on 5GHz is too limiting, and if a general recommendation had to be made 40MHz seems to be the sweet spot with lower latency than 20 unless there's unusually high interference.

For network latency if it feels faster then you can measure it.
