You can use FreeNAS as TechTeid has pointed which is a simple NAS optimized OS. If although you are interested in more options you can always install a linux distro and then optimize it yourself for file sharing. Alternatively you can also use windows Home Server.

I have done worse I've worked on networks lying on the floor trying to reach at the back to unplug a whole series of cat5 cables.
Those even have a locking mechanism so they are tougher to unplug, USB cables are a joke. 
Also if it is such a big issue for you, even though it feels a lot like an excuse,
get a small (0,5m) usb extension cable, leave it plugged in the back and then you can easily plug and unplug your camera using both hands.
And save 124$!

I gave vessel a try and it failed me.
From reading this topic I have seen that there are a lot of people that have the same problems that I have. 
The video quality is really bad. It's not only that it seems to be 720p max but also lower bitrate than youtube making lines fuzzy and colors dull. (wasted time color correcting videos to present them on vessel)
One thing that not too many people have mentioned is that sound is also really bad. It's very harsh and makes me hate my headphones for reproducing that painful sound.
Videos take too much time to load.
Can't use middle click.
No unified list of videos with chronological order from people I want to watch videos from.
Things will get better is no excuse, this was release, I can forgive stuff like that in beta but release is supposed to be the full service.
I really wanted it to succeed but I just can't watch anything because of the really bad quality. I tried to watch the Linus videos but I stopped and decided to appreciate them in full colour and resolution on youtube.

I have also noticed that. From what I can tell offers 720p as their max resolution and also they compress it so much that the colors lose saturation and also everything looks fuzzy.
I wanted to use the service but sadly I can't get over how bad the image quality is, so I'm sticking with youtube. I just love 1440p video.

I actually looked at their website and the video sources with some web inspection tools and it looks like vessel's highest quality is 720p 2400kbps bitrate. No 1080p or higher.
Youtube's highest possible 720p encoding is at 5000kbps which explains the extra fizziness and loss of color saturation on vessel.
They probably do it to save bandwidth because serving videos is very bandwidth demanding but unfortunately I can't see them competing with youtube on image quality.
Also their sound is noticeably worse than youtube and as someone that cares for sound I can't stand their quality.
Too bad that all the work that the people at linus media group put in shooting, editing and color correcting in 4k is going lost for 7 days until it hits youtube.
So far vessel looks good only for vlogs shot on phones.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
It seems like a snub to the content creators who devote so much time and money into getting great, data-rich footage.
This is especially true for LMG. Is a full 4k workflow worth it when the viewer can only enjoy compressed 720p?

So I've been trying to watch a couple of videos for the last half an hour and maybe it's because Vessel's servers are overloaded right now but the experience has been terrible.
 
The interface is bulky and clunky; I have 4 videos open in chrome as well as the forum and it's almost using a ridiculous amount of memory. I can't middle click to open a video in a new tab and I can't double click to make a video full screen. The amount of screen real estate taken up on the home screen as well as "new releases" and "popular" pages is super inefficient to sort through. Account Settings are the most bare-bone I have seen in a long time. These complaints are on a high end desktop. I literally can't load more than one tab at a time on my low-medium performance laptop. 
 
The bit rate looks even worse than Youtube and the HD content, despite looking like it is 720p, loads at a tenth of the speed I can load a 4k video on Youtube, and I have a 100 mbps fibre connection. I literally can not watch a video. Again, it could be that the servers are over loaded but still, a sub-par experience so far. 
 
Overall, I feel like this is just segmenting my viewing. I still need to watch most of my content on Youtube however, I now need to visit Vessel of a minority of my content. This is exactly why I no longer watch TV; because I need to use a bunch of different services to get everything I want to watch. The transition seemed a little hasty, and the service Vessel offers needs a bit of work before it is up to that of Youtube which is really saying something. I'll try again tomorrow and see if my opinions have changed. 

They need to get an Android app and support Chromecast.
 
EDIT: Turns out their player sucks. I started a video and paused it right away and came back like 20 minutes later and I got like 40 seconds in and it completely stopped loading. Had to refresh. It seems like they're using dash loading or whatever but it doesn't buffer fast enough on my 50mb connection. Once it stops to buffer it totally stops loading anything anymore and I have to refresh again and skip to where I was. Each time I can get a little further but it's pretty brutal. Oh yeah and this is in SD.
