Personally owned this exact card. Gets a little loud if you OC it much, but otherwise great. Only a $40 price difference between the two after rebate, but the value of $40 is different from one person to the next so no judgments here. Good luck!
I used Prime95 (26.6) 8K run for max CPU load and Valley Benchmark 2.5K simultaneous. The case fans spin at 100%.

It might be, however according to this Tweaktown article, few games will actually need the full 8gb of vram provided by the 1080 to run. According to that benchmark, even Battlefield 4 used less than 8gb vram running at a ludicrous 8K.
