First there was variable rate shading where parts of the scene were shaded at a lower rate (i.e., resolution) for better performance in places where you likely wouldn't notice the detail difference.

 

Now we have the opposite: shading certain parts of the scene at a higher rate. While it seemed to be originally meant for VR to give where you're focusing at higher resolution, I wonder if they can bring this to games in general.
