I recently upgraded my internet from 1 gig to 2 gig. The router is an Amazon Eero Pro 6E. This router is odd as it has a 2.5 gig input, and one 1 gig output, and 1.5 gig wifi 6. My pc works with the 1 gig output, that is not my issue.
My issue is that when I connect my ethernet cable to a TP-Link TL-SG105-M2 (1 2.5 gig input, 3x 1/2.5 gig, 1x 100/1000/2.5 gig) and the back of my motherboard (MSI MEG Z390 GODLIKE), which has 2x Killer E2500 controllers, I get no internet. I've been made aware that 2.5 gig is not backwards compatible and this is why, when I plug my cat 7 rj45 ethernet cable from my killer port, to the switch I get no internet whatsoever.
The switch is connected to the line that runs to the modem. then, the Eero Pro 6E is run into the first slot (so as to get the wifi and have the 1 gig output). For the moment, I have been using my ethernet cable to the 1 gig output so that I have 1 gig ethernet. This works, but is not ideal. So I bought TP-Link 2.5GB PCIe Network Card (TX201), so that I may facilitate having the full speed that I am paying for. The problem that has arisen is that while in the current configuration [with modem line to switch, then Eero router in first port, with ethernet cable running from 1 gig output to the TP-Link 2.5GB PCIe Network Card (TX201)] the 1 gig output from the Eero does give me 1 gig, when I plug my ethernet cable into the TP-Link TL-SG105-M2 (switch) and the TP-Link 2.5GB PCIe Network Card (TX201) I do not get any internet.
I installed the tp link drivers from their website for the pcie 2.5 gig switch card and still nothing. The light on it indicates that it is connected to a 2.5 gig source, but that it is not working. On the 5 port 2.5 gig switch, it says that its outputting a 2.5 gig signal. At this point I have no idea what to do or if I am doing anything wrong. I can't afford a $600 router to see if that would fix the issue, so any help would be appreciated trying to solve my issue and get the speed that I am paying for.
