so i gave up after the linux install had issues with the other partitions and just imaged the windows install and formatted everything then installed linux using software raid 1. I don't need dual boot it was just to make it easier if i wanted to switch back at some point but if i ever need to switch back it will be because i no longer need the linux os so shouldn't be a problem wiping then. Thanks for the help though

if it doesn't work as well i'll try software raid and if that works out i'll make 2 partitions on each drive and have software raid for each os bit of a pain but looks like my only option

i have a similar setup on a desktop with the same drives in raid 1 so when its finished if its just a name change but actually raid 1 it should look like this

i tried my luck with dell support and they said since it's a out of warranty product they can't offer free support,so basically pony up if you want help lol

its not so much a"recover your data"mode as it is a setup to have one drive a "master" and the other a "slave" drive for redundancy but you don't get any read performance as you would with an actual raid 1

true but i want to dual boot linux as well

yeah raid in enabled in the bios and in the raid splash screen it see's both drives i just can make any raid other than "recovery"

just noticed this got any replies lol i managed to get it working by using an older ubuntu server 14.something. Then used the get app ubuntu desktop command then updated to the latest

hey folks, i have an old Dell Latitude E6520 laptop that supports raid and i'm trying to set up raid 1 on. I've updated the bios (A21) and changed the sata operation mode to raid in the bios. However the only option i get in the raid setup boot screen is "recovery" i've also tried to set it up in windows in intel rts but i get the same there anyone know why i'm not getting any other options, appreciate any help cheers.

Hi, i'm trying to install linux and set up software raid 1. I'd like to use ubuntu/server 18.04 and the system only has 2 identical drives so it would need to be installed on the array. It's for a testing game server (want to get more familiar with linux) I tried installing ubuntu first and there was no options in setup and then i tried and failed using mdadm. Then i saw something about an alternate install/iso and tried Ubuntu server got as far as the partitioning section now i'm stuck again. I have no clue what i should be doing i'd really appreciate someone to hold my hand lol

Been having some weird issues over the last few weeks with my main pc's motherboard Ethernet. It just stops working in the afternoon/evening usually. It doesn't stop at a specific time just anywhere from 3pm-8pm it just decided to not work. I have my game server pc connected to the same network switch and that's fine. I tried a different cable so its not the switch or the cable , i uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and reset my settings (Windows 10 Pro 64 bit). I scanned my system with malwarebytes and i tried manually assigning ip and dns setting also restarting everything routers switch etc. but it seems once its off its done for the day and doesn't start working again until the next day then its fine again until the evening rinse and repeat. Been very infuriating as you can imagine i just switch to wifi when it stops working but obviously i loose all the bandwidth to my nas and don't get the full speed of my fiber plus latency in games is annoying any help anyone can give me thanks. hi folks i have an annoying issue with sli every time i restart or hibernate my pc and start a game that supports sli i don't get the full performance and have to disable and enable sli before i start a game my specs are: CPU: Intel I7 6700K @4.7ghz Ram: 16GB Avexir Blitz 4x 4GB 3600mhz Motherboard: MSI Z107a Gaming Pro GPU:2x EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC Black Edition PSU: EVGA SuperNova T2 1600Watt 80+ Titanium OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit version 1709 build 16299.125 GPU Driver Version: 388.59 Moniors 4k monitor as main (Running a custom resolution 3840x2160@74hz) and extended 1080p monitor as secondary Things i Have Tried: Reinstalling drivers using ddu disabling the programs that have to close to enable/disable sli before enabling to see if one of them was interfering Swapping the card i plug my monitors into Changing nvidia power setting adaptive and prefer maximum performance no difference Trying force sli rendering options 1 & 2 1 made things worse and 2 no difference Switching to native resolution 3840x2160@60hz Unplugging second monitor My psu has more than enough juice and since it works after disabling and enabling again i don't think it could be a connectivity problem reseating the cards. sli bridge, power cables .etc and both cards do clock up to their maximum under a 3d load so i don't think it could be a power saving issue. Both gpus when they are working correctly operate at 98-99%(70-80ish fps) utilization (In Far Cry 4) and after a restart the both fall to 40-60%(40-50ish fps) but are still at max clocks.It also doesn't seem to be game specific i get the same behavior in both Mass Effect Andromeda and Far Cry 4.I'm not sure what else to try. I've been looking online but i can't really find anything I'd really appreciate your thoughts cheers.

I've been playing the older dawn of war's for nostalgia and i'm using a 4k monitor and at that resolution the ui is so small i can't even read it with glasses on. So my options are play 2 inches away from the screen or run it at a lower reolution and deal with it looking like poop at a non native resolution. i've spent 2 hours messing with it and googling and what little i could find didn't help me so i come here if you can help i'd greatly appreciate it cheers.
