Everyone and their grandmother has already seen that the 1080 was at least 30% ahead of the Titan and 980ti on benchmarks recently done.  It isn't just a "slight" update.  Specially when you consider the price.
 
And for the last time, if someone is asking the opinion of an Nvidia card, if you can't answer, it's best just to keep your mouth closed.  It's like someone asking which is your favorite ice cream flavor and you stick your face in the argument and you tell them they should have pepperoni pizza.

However, if the original poster MADE IT CLEAR they want an Nvidia card, why do you feel that it's your God given duty to sway them to something else?  This is THE MOST ANNOYING THING I find with AMD fanboys.

It's slated to be $600.  980ti is currently at $650.  You mean cheaper and faster and more vram is a bad thing?
 
If it tears thru DX12 titles FASTER than anything with native async compute... does it even matter?
 
Majority of the market do not buy reference cards.  Not to mention 3rd party coolers are cheaper.  Even AMD's top dog card costs $650 and will get obliterated by this.
 
Product hype is part of marketing.  I remember AMD hyping up their Bulldozer cpus as they're going to bury Intel once and for all.  We all know how it turned out.
You know this how?  If it sells for more than $600 it's not because Nvidia lied.  It's because of mark ups due to supply and demand.  Something you'll learn in Econ 101.
 
You WANT to progress.  If you don't, you get left behind by the competition.
 
This GPU kicked the ass of their biggest dog, the Titan for 1/2 the cost.  Wow, that's small news with small changes.

I have never seen such an infestation of AMD fanboys on these boards anywhere.  You have members specifically asking for advice on which Nvidia cards to buy and you would have a couple of members foisting AMD products.  After failing to convince the OP, they start insulting them.  Ha-ha-ha-ha!  WTF is up with that?

If you want a low end card, then wait.  AMD's Polaris is supposed to blow away the R9 380.
 
If you want high end, Nvidia is the only player.

Looks like benchmarks were able to verify Nvidia's claim.
Nvidia displayed 2ghz OC.  Haters said impossible.  Today we see it can reach 2.5ghz.
 
Nvidia took a $1,200 gpu (Titan X) and released another gpu with performance that surpasses it for literally 1/2 the cost.
 
That's like BMW making another car that beats their M5 for 1/2 the cost.  Yeah... small accomplishment.  LOL!

If the 1070 exchanges blows with the Titan, then this $380 Nvidia card will utterly destroy AMD's $650 flagship.
If the 1060 matches the 980's performance and sells for $200... I'm sorry to break it to you, but AMD's hold of the 380 segment is lost.
If the 1050 matches the 970's performance... oh man.  What a massacre it would be.

It depends on what the PC is used for. 4gb is the bare minimum these days, 8gb is slowly becoming the standard. If it's just games and web browsing (and movies/etc), you're probably fine with the 12. 16gb is the point where most people start to see diminishing returns

Just buy a used 960 for that price. Some of these used hardware have only been running in a system for a few months and are almost like new

Don't throw your money away on an AMD cpu/mobo.
3258 = lga 1150  Save up and buy yourself an i5 4690K.  Over clock it and destroy even AMD's best cpus.
 
I bought a 4690K from Fry's for $199.99
 
You can still play GTA5 on 3258 without stuttering.  MSI Afterburner + Rivatuner and throttle it to about 45fps.  Not bad performance.  Still better than consoles.

I don't know why many people think that just because something new is coming out that the previous generation will become completely crap.

The 1070 has Titan X performance and has asynchronous compute for 370us. It obliterates a 390. The founders edition is just the re naming of reference by Nvidia. That said Polaris 10 which will be in the 490x (not a rebrand) matches 390x performance at 800mhz and costs 300us. Will the Polaris 10 chip overclock to 2.2GHz like Pascal? If so the 490x will out perform the 1070 for less money. If is doesn't, RIP AMD.
 
You'd be foolish to buy anything until we know what's up with Polaris 10.

Don't throw your money away on a 390.
 
Wait until about fall of this year.  By then we should see how well the 1070 performs and the 490, rebrand of 390 and of 290 should be on the horizon.

Depends on the game.
GTAV = kicks the crap out of cpus
Crysis 3 = makes gpus sweat bullets
 
If money is a concern, go midway on both.  You want them balanced out.

If the 970 does drop to around 200, that will be a great value to price card
