RangerLunis reacted to catzambia in Hows my $1000~ build?
That board doesn't support overclocking, so I would save 40 bucks and get a locked i5

How about just the ability to edit status posts and comments.

Playing uncompressed audio like WAVE files is so simple it can hardly be called a 'project'.
Playing something like MP3 is more about the math and algorithms like Huffman then knowing the language.
I'd suggest learning the language with a subject you already fully understand so you can focus on learning the language rather then having to study the subject.

Haha it's okay you'll learn quickly!
The pairs are the same - 4 pairs of cables inside a sleeve. In Cat6 you have a plastic core which separates these 4 pairs (in the shape of a +), tighter-twisted pairs, and a slightly thicker jacket to reduce cross-talk. In some Cat6 cabling the internal copper cable pairs are slightly larger.
I've gotten Cat6 into Cat5E RJ45 connectors fine before, personally never seen a speed difference so just use whichever I have in the bag!

Same here, I'm not yet very experienced in networking, but I'm guessing based on the internals of a Ethernet cable, if you were going to fit a cat 6 on a cat 5 jack you wouldn't be able to properly route some of the twisted pairs or something like that? Probably not making much sense there, but best wishes to you!

The Cat6 plugs are slightly different from Cat5 plugs. If you ran Cat6 cable, don't cheap out on the plugs. They're not that expensive. Get some shielded Cat6 plugs. Theoretically, it could impact the speed.

Thanks! From what I'v found they have the same 'pinout', just different 'quality' specifications such as twisting, shielding, ect.

i'd go for a 480 because if he want to he can upgrade to a crossfire configuration later

He could also get another 970 or 1060 later and use DX12's multi gpu stuff, but I agree, definitely go RX 480, because it handily beats both the 970 and 1060 in DX12 and vulkan.

Note, I said LIGHT video editing of COURSE if he were doing loads of heavy video editing he would be better off with an i7, duh.
And yes there will be a difference in minimums measured by fraps, but in real world gameplay, these dips do not happen often at all and are often not noticeable. And what videocard were they tested with in gaming? Because with an RX 480 the gpu will be the bottleneck. Also, when factoring in the price difference, i7's make no sense, UNLESS OF COURSE YOU ARE DOING HEAVY VIDEO EDITING. As I said before.

The OP has a budget man, and paired with an RX 480 there will be no noticeable difference between an i5 and an i7. Unless he wants to get into a lot of content creation, as I said.

@App4that @keNNySOC
As the OP has said multiple times, the build would be used for some light video editing, and in gaming an i5 will be just fine. If the OP wants to spend nearly twice as much to save a few minutes then whatever, but since the build will be used for mostly gaming I see no reason to buy an i7.

How in the hell is the locked i5 going to die faster than the unlocked i7.
This thing is going to be under a great air cooler, in a case with plenty of airflow.
My friend is not interested at ALL in overclocking.

RangerLunis reacted to catzambia in Hows my $1000~ build?
k, well you shouldn't say die.
Yes it will have better performance, but with DX12 and Vulkan properly utilizing parts, no need for an i7.

Ok, what does that have to do with this? It's outside of OP's budget, he doesn't need it when paired with an RX 480, and an FX 6300 can beat that i7 in cb.

Yep
Shows your a jackass who wants to prove a mute point,
You don't understand the concept of not having the money to get better hardware.
$1000 is the budget. You came here openly insulting those who you believe have no knowledge, and then tried to suggest a product that has completely unrealistic benefits compared to the other choices.
I understand and accept that YES, it would provide better performance,
YES, it could potentially last longer if overclocked at the end of its lifespan.
Do I think that performance and longevity is worth it when its going to go completely unused? Hell no.
PLEASE, if your going to shame me for not taking criticism, look at what i'm exactly asking for at the beginning of this topic and see that what you may think is most desirable is maybe not exactly what a person can afford or want.
I have told you time and time again NO, a i7 is NOT A OPTION.
Please respect that and leave the conversation at that.

It's the cable that will make the difference generally.
In my experience I've regularly used Cat5E cables and gotten Gigabit speeds through the network. I've also made custom cables with both Cat5E and Cat6 and speedtested using a file transfer and got pretty much the same results. I've also used Cat6 patch cables on 10GBASE-T and gotten near-on that over a distance of about 10m.
The thing that will make the biggest difference is the quality of the cabling. Buy good quality cables or components to make them, and you shouldn't see any limitation.

Not much experience in this department, but I was looking for a very similar answer. Here is a question over on stack exchange which might give the answer you're looking for: http://superuser.com/questions/663732/can-i-use-cat5e-jacks-with-cat6-cable

A lotta people down here are going to say "DONT GO ITS STUPID GAME DEGREES ARE SHITTTTTT", but really i'm sure it's a great college with some great programs.
While game design degree may not really honestly help you get a job with a company in maybe regular IT, you could have a chance working for indie companies or bigger well known companies, but understand the jobs will be EXTREMELY competitive. I'd honestly recommend looking into their software development program, as mastering programming will let you understand game design so much more and will give you wide options in careers from game companies to regular IT jobs. I also recommend checking out certifications. CompTIA offers some good ones and just that certification alone without any college degree nailed me in a job in the IT department at my local police department.
Good luck!
