nofxz got a reaction from Masqurade99 in M.2 SSD Waterblock
Hello, My name is Jon. I have been a computer guy for a very long time. I don't find posting about my rigs interesting or fun to craft. I do however think that people will find this process of R&D making these blocks. I am aiming this at the new Samsung 960 Pro 512GB, but I wanna start this before that is available. So I currently have a Intel 540 460GB now, so I am gonna run with what I got. A bit about myself is that I have been a machinist over 5 years now, have a Haas vertical milling machine and a turning center. More about that later, I will be designing this in Mastercam. Now for some pictures for flavour.

Using the extra 6 threaded holes, support to the motherboard can be achieved watching to not assemble the socket head caps on top of other motherboard components. Thermal pads are used for spacers between chips and block. Its a very slight compression just to keep the block from sliding about. The two bottom plate holes in the center, are spaced over the 60mm and 42mm riser holes for the m.2 slot. As to you could formulate a bolt and spacer situation for mounting the block on those locations. The only problem is different motherboard makers seem to have spaced those heights differently and I don't have a way to take that in account.

If you build the motherboard mount to eatx and atx specs, you can always upgrade the inside hardware at later date.

Killer cpu for the money. That cpu is worth what the total build is if you bought it current gen and you would only get maybe 10 - 12 percent more performance.

Watch out the charging circuit of ups may not be able to take a bunch of extra battery capacity.

Received Orings today and did a pressure test. If it holds air in, it will hold water in.

No, I designed it so you can replace the bottom with a proper copper piece for double sided drives. I just don't have any to measure yet.

and done. Rev0, I did the Samsung 256GB 950 Pro NVm first, as I use my Intel 540 all the time.

Ahh Crap, I will edit the topic header. I am building this block as to allow use of M.2 SSD on the motherboard socket instead of a seperate addin PCIe card. I want to start with the single sided pcb SSD and will do the double sided once I have the single sided ones licked. So 256 or 512gb first then 1TB and bigger later. It will be copper block with plexi window to start, I will do full copper later.
