Who do you think will win the Scrapyard wars?
GrievingJosh replied to IGetMoreAssThanAToiletSeat's topic in Off Topic
I'm going to guess Linus' build, that E8400 is really going to hold back that 290 ... -
But I've seen numerous people playing BF4 just fine on a 480 ... Reinstall was fruitless too.

Heya guys, been a while since I've been to this forum but lets jump straight into it, no idea what's happening but I seem to be having DirectX issues? BF4 specifically and CoD Advanced Warfare flag DirectX as a problem, BF4 says my 480 doesn't support DX10 and it's a requirement (With a DX11 GPU?) and Advanced Warfare just says "DirectX encounted an unrecoverable error". I've tried reinstalling the runtime to no avail, so anyone got any ideas? I know my old 480 is outdated but it still performs alright, and I have no money atm, not any that I can casually dump into my system for upgrades. EDIT: Currently going through removing the GPU driver, and gonna run driversweeper, then do a fresh driver install to see if that makes any difference.

4690K for the CPU definitely, and, what's your price point of the GPU? We can't help if you don't specify price point, I say, go all out ... Who needs money, go 2 Titan Z's with 2 extra Quadro K5000's.

As long as it's better than sodding Micro USB, I'm pretty excited for this new standard.

Hi guys, been a while since I've actually posted a topic but I thought I'd jump straight into it, helping a friend out. He's trying to find some kind of Notebook with at least a decent amount of power behind it, budget is set at around £600. Any help? He's doing an IT course so, he mentioned he would preferably like decent battery life with enough graphics power to do some moderate gaming from time to time. Nothing crazy, but I know nothing about Notebook's so I thought I'd ask the best tech community there is for hopefully some help. Any would be vastly appreciated.

your favorite tech that has been lost or destroyed over the years
GrievingJosh replied to JAW96's topic in General Discussion
I love this phone, it's literally indestructible I swear, the metal edge that goes around the edge of the display has been bent and come loose on mine so I use a case on it, but other than that, this phone is an utter tank. Bulletproof too, ever come across the article on a clerk who got shot? Straight into the EVO 3D and it stopped the bullet. But other than that, my only complaint of my particular phone, is I've rooted it and put a custom rom on there that's not too stable really. Other than that, still flawless. -
your favorite tech that has been lost or destroyed over the years
GrievingJosh replied to JAW96's topic in General Discussion
I have no idea who's fault it was, my phone was in my bag at work, I leave it in there because it'd definitely get broken with what I do, I came back to it at lunch and the screen was cracked. Plus I'm not really like that, it's just a device at the end of the day, not worth falling out with someone over, I'm sure it was just an accident. -
Galaxy Note 4, because I'm looking into buying one depending on how the reviews turn out, my Xperia ZU is way too fragile.

your favorite tech that has been lost or destroyed over the years
GrievingJosh replied to JAW96's topic in General Discussion
Interestingly the worst for me is EASILY the most recent one, I got an Xperia ZU at launch, I dumped like £600 or so into this phone, because it's the first phone I've actually bought since mid 2011 (HTC EVO 3D, still with me today, going strong) And after a month of using this ZU, the screen cracked, and worse it wasn't even by my doing, had to pay ~£160 to get it repaired by Sony themselves, and guess what? It's been cracked again, and, like last time, it wasn't my doing. I do try to look after my devices as best I can which is what makes this way worse. I will be buying like 8 glass screen protectors for it this time around, it's fragile but an AWESOME phone. -
If it was me personally, I would be sitting and waiting for the Note 4. Not saying the G3 is a bad phone, it's not, I have indeed used one for a little while and I found it to be pretty solid, the screen is insanely sharp. But saying that, it didn't get bright at all and was sort of meh ... Again, it's not bad it just wasn't the best. Which is hopefully something that would be remedied on the Note 4, just my take on it, it'll be initially expensive but worth the wait. If you for whatever reason can't hang around for it, the G3 is a VERY solid & good phone.

Freezing during Gaming but not stress tests?
GrievingJosh replied to EdgeUK's topic in Troubleshooting
Just to mention, being drivers couldn't you just disable them in device manager? -
Freezing during Gaming but not stress tests?
GrievingJosh replied to EdgeUK's topic in Troubleshooting
Ah okay, because like I just said about my sadly dying GPU, it would do exactly what you described, freeze in random games at random times, would make that annoying buzz sound but the difference is it would display a pretty, corrupt pixel graphic on the display. I'd maybe look at trying to test either GPU or HDD, or both just to be safe. -

GrievingJosh replied to EdgeUK's topic in Troubleshooting
Just wondering, what comes on the screen when the game freezes? IF anything gets displayed that is ... -
Freezing during Gaming but not stress tests?
GrievingJosh replied to EdgeUK's topic in Troubleshooting
Maybe the games just went bad? Have you tried reinstalling them, or, if on Steam verifying the cache? Although saying that, my GPU is in the process of dying, although it'll run Furmark flawlessly with no issues and staying cool, then I went to play BO2 and it froze a couple minutes in and it won't launch the game now at all. -.- -
Upgrading PC soon, should I go intel?
GrievingJosh replied to SirSpicyWeiner's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I'd just go with the newer AM3+ board, the 6300 isn't a slow CPU by any stretch of the imagination. -
LG G3 Review and.... TWENTY-FIVE Phone Giveaway?!
GrievingJosh replied to LinusTech's topic in LTT Releases
My personal favourite thing would be the design, I'm not going insane over the 1440p screen as I have my phone does have a 1080p display and you really cannot see the individual pixels at all, maybe my view would change upon using a G3. But I still think the design is absolutely stunning, so clean, simple and elegant. -
How much do you care about the sound level of your pc?
GrievingJosh replied to Mao_Zedong's topic in Cooling
The noise level of my system is subjective to me, when playing games I don't really care much, because my machine is loud under load, well, the GPU is loud, but it really doesn't bother me that much in games, however at idle the machine is quiet and I like it. -
Although, there was a counter to this one, to get GTA V on the PC and it got over 720,000 signatures. So yay!
-
Honestly I found this and just laughed at how ridiculous it is.

http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/rockstar-games-dont-make-a-pc-version-of-gta-v I'd check the link out, very interesting, I'm aware Rockstar won't listen to them, but really? Nearly 14 THOUSAND supporters, not sure how long this has been about, I'm assuming around 9-10 months? Because the top comments are from 9 months ago, but I wanted to put this into a general discussion. I hate it when gamers deliberately fire shots at each other like this, there's no need. I'm a PC gamer as well as a lot of people here and I sure as hell don't pirate stuff. But yeah, how does everyone else feel about this? Apologies if anyone's already discovered/posted this.

1100T still a good CPU?
GrievingJosh replied to GrievingJosh's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
The board is an Asus M5A99X EVO. Also after what you mentioned earlier, you can pick up 1055T's for like £60 on Ebay. -
1100T still a good CPU?
GrievingJosh replied to GrievingJosh's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Awesome, that's the news I was looking to hear. £100 for a board and the CPU really is a steal so I thought I'd go for it, it's a HELL of an upgrade from my old Athlon 64 X2 that I'm currently using :') -
You don't happen to have any other kind of system around you can test it on do you? If not then have you tried running a bare system just to make sure you have got power? OR could pick up a PSU tester. But it does sound like it could of been fried.
