  1. Does anyone know anything about this Yottamaster DAS RAID box? I've been looking for a raid solution for a while and this thing is less expensive than what's usually recommended to me and seems to have mostly good reviews
  2. Don't know which RAW format yet. I'm still looking into cameras. But i'm using Premier and tend not to use too many tracks. My interest is in making short films and I have a capture it in camera philosophy so my timelines are generally pretty straight forward but not always
  3. I'm putting together a new PC that I hope will be able to handle 4K RAW. How Much RAM do I really need? is 32GB enough?
  4. I admit I'm the least sure about how much RAM I need. I Don't exactly know what's stored in it while editing videos or photos
  5. All of my important Data is external. 500BG for C: drive and 1TB for game drive. I keep my C drive as lean as possible so I always use smaller ones. I don't actually think I've ever used anything bigger than a 250gb for my C drive before. And 1TB for games is fine. I generally only keep the games I'm currently playing downloaded.
  6. CPU: Intel 13700k RAM: 64BG Corsair Vengeance DDR5 5200MHz MoBo: GIGIBYTE Z690I AORUS ULTRALITE Cooler: AK AIO 240mm (plus LGA1700 backplate) NVMe 1: WB Black 500GB SN770 NVMe 2: WD Black 1TB SN770 PSU: Cooler Master V850 SFX Gold (850 Watt) Case: Lian Li A4-H20 I already have an RTX 3070 8GB My use case is a daily driver for both gamming and video production. Would like it to be able to handle at least 4k RAW reliably. Could I get by with an i5 or 32gb RAM? Is there something else I should change?
  7. I just came to the conclusion that I put almost nothing inside my computer anymore. Plus, i've been in situations where i had to stuff a PC into a suitcase and hop on a plane. Would be nice to be able to do that easily
  8. Budget: Under $1,000 U.S. Country: United States Programs or workloads: Adobe Creative Suite (Premier (up tp 4k RAW), Lightroom, Photoshop) Games: Doom Eternal, Resident Evil Village, Metro Exodus, and heavily modded Fallout 4 and Skyrim Other details: I've decided I need a small formfactor, jack of all trades computer that can handle heavy video editing if necessary (mostly 1080p RAW) and play modern games at high-ish settings. I already have an RTX 3070 and a few SSDs, but this is what I'm thinking for the rest of the system. CPU: i5-13600k MoBo: Gigabyte Z690I Aorus Ultra Lite DDR5 RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 5600 2x16gb PSU: Cooler Master V850 SFX AIO: EK 240mm AIO Case: LIAN LI A4-H20 Does this seem like a reasonable, good at most things build?
  9. I already have an RTX 3070 but I'm running it in a 10 year old computer. What's the best processor to pare it with, AMD or Intel
  10. Long story short, I found myself with two systems to choose from but I only have one RTX-3070. The first system has a Ryzen 5 2600 and 16GB RAM in dual channel. This is currently my daily driver and has the 3070 in it. The second system has a Threadripper 1600X with 16GB RAM in quad channel. What, if anything, would this system be better at than the other and is it worth putting the 3070 in?
  11. gee wow thanks. it's almost like I just told you I did that
  12. How do you change the permissions? i tried already but I'm not sure I did it right
  13. Long story short, I have 3 computers. I have My daily driver, my editing rig and a laptop. I was supposed to be moving overseas and needed to consolidate the data from both systems onto my laptop as well as modify a few things. I pulled the data drive out of both desktops as well as the C drive out of the editing rig. It was an NVME SSD that I installed in my laptop as a secondary drive and formatted it... I now realize I really shouldn't have done that yet... When I went to copy the data from my two data drives onto my laptop using a USB dock, I was greeted with error messages "Location is unavailable. Drive is not accessible. Access is denied." I can't access either drive because of this. Both drives are functional but no matter what I do, I can't figure out how to get into them. I can't put my editing drive back in it's original machine because I formatted the C drive (STUPID!) and when I put my daily driver's data drive back in, it gives me the same error. I've tried both putting it back inside the computer and using a USB dock. And i've tried both drives on the USB dock on my laptop as well. Same issue. What do I do to get my data back?
  14. Don't ask how but I ended up with two older but still decent systems and I'm trying to figure out which one to make my daily driver and put my new 3070 in. The first system has a Ryzen 5 2600 and 16GB RAM in dual channel The second has a Threadripper 1600X with 16GB RAM in quad channel My uses for the system are gamming and video and photo editing. The threadripper would more than likely be best for video and photo editing but I have a suspicion that the 2600 would be better for gaming. I could be wrong though. any input would be great
  15. is there a better option for what i'm looking for?
  16. I have a large collection of blurays that I'm backing up and would like an interface for browsing my movies but I'm not interested in streaming them. will plex work for this?
  17. yes, i would use it in raid 1. I'm just a little uncertain of the reliability of 2.5" HDDs. But then again, they are made to go in laptops so I suppose they are built to take some abuse
  18. Have any opinions on something like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CX2KK5Z/?coliid=I1LD3IYWVGEG05&colid=Z08424IJ9LJF&ref_=gv_ov_lig_pi_dp&th=1
  19. ok, thanks. something to consider.
  20. you would stuff that in a suitcase?
  21. What do you use for your 32tb drive
  22. Well, I'm in a position where I need to travel over seas with a lot of data and I don't trust carrying a NAS threw an airport AT ALL. I'll have backups on HDDs here but I need something solid and reliable to get all that data threw an airport and be my main work drive for at least a few months. Of course that means I'll be accumulating more data once I'm there and won't have a backup for that.
  23. Basically my question is, Which is safer in terms of data? Is it even possible to restore data from a dead SSD like you can an HDD? If you needed a single drive (so no raid) to be reliable and recoverable in the event of a failure, which would it be? I know a NAS is the answer ultimately but humor me with the single drive question.
  24. Will one of those toaster style HDD duplicators work to make a backup of the drive?
