AMD Ryzen R7 lineup is made out of two CCXs (Core Complexes) which contain four physical cores each. They're connected through Infinity Fabric high-bandwidth interconnect which seems to be AMD's own implementation and an improvement over Intel's QPI Link. Infinity Fabric is not only faster with 2133MHz RAM than QPI, but its bandwidth increases hugely with higher memory speeds.

Six-core R5 Ryzen chips will have one core in each CCX disabled, making it a 3+3 CPU. Quad-core parts will be 2+2. That is most likely related to the fact that each CCX supports one memory channel and for RAM to work in a dual-channel mode, you need two CCXs.

As for the memory support, AMD said that they need to roll out a microcode update that fixes issues with having multiple RAM sticks at high frequencies so for the time being they're recommending using 2667MHz max, though a bit under 3000MHz still works fine. The update should come within a month or so.

Polaris has no SFF at higher tiers.  The nano is ancient and needs a refresh

I'm gonna watch the video when I get home, can't do that now sadly

I know the 7700K runs at 4,2GHz, but the 1800X in reality runs only at 3,7/3,8GHz at all cores when it's at stock. 4,0GHz(4,1GHz with XFR) works only on one/two cores.
And 4,2GHz of Kaby Lake is around 4,5-4,6GHz of Haswell

So whatever results favor your narrative are ok but whatever results go against it are "unjustified"?

No the graphs speak for themselves: Stop talking about testing methodology or game relevance, the 7700k did not loose badly on any of the test yet it did win by a really big margin on some of the tests. Reproducible by other reviewers. Even at 1440p so no it's not just bad for high refresh rate gamers. Ryzen is just already outdated for gaming, period.

Maybe in some years if we get games using 8 threads efficiently things will change but again, many people bought Excavator turds with the promise of future improvements and that seems to be always the case for AMD buyers: just keep waiting and waiting and waiting things will get better we promise!

No one here is being a fanboy.... Ryzen is an amazing CPU for productivity and that's it. For gaming, just look elsewhere. (Unless you mostly do content creation and you game only when you have time)

In which case the 7700k never really loses by a significant margin.

So instead what we've been saying all along: If you game, forget Ryzen (at least until you get on low end i5 pricing territory) but if you do other Workstation stuff then maybe take a look.

PCGuy_5960 got a reaction from Morgan MLGman in AMD Ryzen R7 1800X performance review - TechPowerUp
Definitely. But this is also something to consider... If you want to get Ryzen, do you want to waste hours upon hours trying to get the memory to its max frequency so that you won't get performance issues. If you leave it at stock, performance will be considerably worse...

PCGuy_5960 got a reaction from Morgan MLGman in AMD Ryzen R7 1800X performance review - TechPowerUp
Exactly. AMD has to iron out this issue ASAP. Because for the average consumer, it will be a HUGE deal-breaker....
I mean, many people are afraid to build their PC, imagine if you told them that they have to overclock the memory to get decent performance....

It would be great if reviewers stopped comparing it to a smililarly priced gaming chip during gaming benchmarks....why? Just to deceive people who might not know it's just not a good gaming chip?

That would be deceitful and intellectually dishonest.

IMO the CCX issue might be fixed in a way, as we know, RAM speed fix will come out in around a month or so, if overclocking RAM from 2133 to 3200MHz can double Infinity Fabric's bandwidth, then it wouldn't be as big of a bottleneck between the CCXs and the performance should go up in theory, right? Patches should also fix the weird issue when turning SMT off improves performance in games and definitely the HEPT issue resulting in lowered performance with it turned on.

There's too many of those issues, sadly. I wonder when exactly and IF they're gonna get fixed...

One thing I think people are forgetting is, besides just performance reviews, AMD finally has a product which is absolutely competitive with intel for the first time since phenom X4 and X6, which might make intel bring cannonlake forward, and possibly make intel drop their prices on HEDT.

PCGuy_5960 got a reaction from Ya_Mi in Should Ryzen 1800x be compared with 7700k ?
An enthusiast doesn't GAF about having "playable" FPS
It is really hard.... Developers will have to make their games use up to 8 threads that belong to cores that are on the same CCX. I don't think that developers will update their games for that.... Newer games should have this though and I think that Ryzen will perform a bit better in upcoming games...

PCGuy_5960 reacted to MyName13 in AMD Ryzen R7 1800X performance review - TechPowerUp
But faster ram and overclocking motherboards are also more expensive, this way you will actually pay more for AMD's CPU, it's possible that Intel's i5 6/7400 will perform better in gaming even with slower ram and non OC chipsets.

Jay did not compare it to the 6900K or the 7700K, nobody said that Ryzen sucks for games. The only thing that people are saying is that you can find better CPUs if you are only gaming...
It is. Check out PCPer's article on Ryzen's CCX latency....

Why will one not be able to OC the 1800X to 4ghz on the Asrock B350? If the 1800X is a good chip, that isn't a problem.
Same for the 5820K so this is fair.
