Maybe so, but OP is specifically asking about the Ryzen 7 1800X. We already have benchmarks available for the CPUs in question.

AFAIK, PWM can be used to describe a way of distributing power as well...

If you want to game at 144Hz or 240Hz, get the 1080. If you want 100-120Hz, get the 1070.

    If you want 144Hz:
Get a 1080 (This is more important) get a 7700K and overclock it to 5GHz.

But will it be $100 faster? And the extra 2 cores and 4 threads will be helpful in non-gaming workloads

We can pretty much just look at the 1800x overclocked to see what an overclocked R5 chip will probably be like in gaming.  This is because it's the same architecture and probably will not clock much higher than the R7 chips.  This means that, even though I still recommend waiting for reviews, we can pretty much say right now that the Ryzen 5s will outperform the i5s in pretty much everything.

I mean will the difference be significant enough to pay $100 more over the Ryzen5

When you are CPU bound, RAM affects performance... Unless you use Ryzen, then RAM speed matters, A LOT

BTW, if you want just 60fps, just get an i5, why are you even considering an R7/i7 CPU?

I think I've found the problem, I uninstalled Afterburner, put on EVGA Precision XOC using the same OC settings and BOOM stable.
