To address the OP, I wouldn't base future GPU purchases on APIs coming out. I personally still think it's up in the air how rapidly the DX12 API will be adopted, and whether or not that's going to factor into this gen of GPUs. We also still have the Vulkan API on its way to replace OpenGL, but I don't use that in my arguments. I would say waiting for the RX 480 may have have been a good option, just based on the price of the card alone (not confirmed to be 980 performance, but at least 970), but the DX12 reasoning is very weak. Drivers also hasn't been a very valid argument for a while, as both companies have their victories and defeats.
As for the talk of marketing, one company is not straight up better than the other. And it's not 'purely marketing' either. I think it's really a combination of timing of the marketing and your architecture. If all that just falls under marketing, then fine.

from someone that *only* has nvidia cards at the moment (and probably will remain like that for a while):
no. dont be dumb. if nvidia was "just better" amd wouldnt even exist. both brands (and matrox on that note) have a specific place in the market they're good at, and they all have their "unique touch" of features people would go for over a bit extra performance, or pay a bit extra for.
to move away from the nvidia/amd debate to avoid flame wars: matrox. i'd dare to say most of us here could easily agree that the cards are pieces of junk compared to any of the nvidia/amd offerings. BUT... good luck finding anything outside of matrox that'll happily drive 9 4K panels over HDMI on a single slot card, and has the possibility of slotting as many of those into your system as you have 16x slots, and have those all run happily together.
in pretty much the entire computer world, cars, even floor tiles,... there's no "better brand", theres just opinion, price, quality, and feature differences. it goes as far as me saying that in some cases a GT640 would be a better card than a GTX1080, because theres just cases where that GTX1080 doesnt even make sense to start with. same goes between these brands: why would you for example buy a GTX980 if your workload requires a HUGE amount of VRAM and an R9 290 with 8GB vram would be a huge improvement.

XamN reacted to Tenshi017 in Ram and Motherboard
To answer your first question, there is no ram that is amd (unless you are talking about Radeon memory) and there is definitely no LGA ram you may have gotten confused by the listing. LGA (land grid array) refers to the serface mount packaging for integrated circuits.
Next you mentioned a ram module kingston kvr667d2/2gr this is ddr2 laptop memory, unless you want to add ram to a desktop pc this ram won't work this only can go in a laptop.
Next you said you got this motherboard: Intel E210882 D945GCZLKR this board actually uses ddr1 and is socket LGA 775 I can't find much information on this board but judging by its only 10 dollars on eBay, i dont think it would be fun to use.
