LATINO WATER BOTTEL got a reaction from Mihle in Worst Tech mistake you have ever made?
Mine would have to been was when I was building my second pc.

I had bought the Master Case Pro 5 and the room I was working in was pretty dark and so all the stand offs for my mother board were in a black cardboard box in the bottom drive bay and I had looked for it for like an hour and so eventual I just gave up and found some other stand offs that didnt fit so i got a drill and a bit that was slightly smaller than the thread of the stand off. and drilled one hole and put in the stand off and then I put my hand down and noticed that the Fucking little box was right there right in front of me. I felt so stupid and today my mother board still one stand off missing(one of the middle ones and i put some rubber under it to stand it off the case after the fuck up.

from my research its due to the fact the brushed motors have little contacts connected to the center shaft witch wears down over time. Due to brushless not having this it makes them a lot better for underwater and long term use.

    That, is not normal.
I'm assuming whoever built the computer was so scared of shorting the motherboard, they that thought placing masking tape on the standoffs would help.
But that is NOT required, unless it's a standoff that is irremovable and isn't standard ATX, meaning it would short the motherboard by touching the back of it. (And even there I would sooner cut it off entirely)
But in general, if the standoffs are aligned with the screw holes on the motherboard, there will be no problem.

LATINO WATER BOTTEL reacted to Drak3 in What do people use home servers for?
Game servers let me play games with friends without bogging down my main machine or pay excessive prices.
NAS/file servers allow me to access files on multiple machines and devices easily, and allow me more storage than some single systems can do alone. Same for Plex servers.

LATINO WATER BOTTEL reacted to BuckGup in What do people use home servers for?
Plex, games, torrenting, music streaming, and mining. I generally like to keep these on a separate computer as it won't slow down my main PC if I am transcoding movies in plex and I can shove it in a closet

Never liked plugins for "vanilla" servers because keeping up to date was a serious problem.  Also never had a server with more than ~50 people, so maintaining a whitelist was the simplest way to go.

If you wanted to make it public you could have a password plugin to counter bots and for spammers put in a anti spam plugin/anti link/anti ip

Oh, something I encountered hosting my own servers, you may need to disable authorization of clients.  The central servers sometimes will not authorize people for you depending on your network setup.

To counter bots/spammers I run a whitelist.  People contacted me wanting in and I added their Name/IP to the allowed players list.
