Lurick got a reaction from wONKEyeYEs in Power Supply CPU connectors
You only need the single 8 pin for the CPU. The second 4 pin is optional and mostly for stability with higher end overclocks. If you're just getting a 13400 then there is zero need for the second 4pin.

his eyes look older now they he doesn't have the beard..but the rest of his face is younger.
what a weird contradiction

Without the beard he looks 25. I guess maybe some people would think that's a good thing.

Lurick reacted to Polderviking in SysAdmin work attire
This is very much company specific. But if they don't say they porbably don't care.
I've never worn office attire in my entire working life, that i spent in offices.
What makes you feel good.
I walked around with long (women getting jealous long) hair in a pony tail, a variety of (sometimes rather large) beard styles and fairly provocative collection of heavy metal band shirts for a really long time. Nobody batted an eye at that.
As I got a somewhat older I kind of dropped that a bit and went more for comfort, changed the long hair for a buzzcut (shortest my trimmer will do) because I was kinda done with the long hair but still don't like hairdressers.
Still have (well kept) beard with a braid in the middle. Usually wear some non descript sweater/hoodie/t-shirt depending on the season, jeans, and some garden variety of hiking shoes/boots because i'm always ready for a brisk walk.
This is clearly a developer. 🙂

Lurick reacted to Lunar River in 0% bottleneck
so you were expecting a random made up number, but got a different random made up number instead?
-
Lurick reacted to Spotty in 0% bottleneck
"I used a random number generator and it gave me 0, how is that possible?"
Bottleneck calculator websites are completely meaningless garbage. You'd get more insight in to how your computer performs by reading tea leaves. There is no way to calculate a bottleneck because different applications will stress different components differently.

Lurick reacted to Slottr in Steam Downloads
Update to this:
Ran TCP Optimizer, rebooted, and seems to have fixed the issue.
Digging through right now to find out what it exactly changed, I saw a number of reg key directories in the log files.

1 for the house, 1 for the garage, 1 for the PC desk, 1 for the backpack, seems reasonable.

Nope, we are a free for all household lol. Regardless, downloads arent throttled in any other software

Lurick got a reaction from Eigenvektor in are there any hardware level encrypted ssd/flash drives
Yes, it's know as SED (Self Encrypting Drives)
They key is managed by a local co-processor and is transparent to the end user and not viewable at all. You can reset the encryption key by generating a new one but again it's still kept secret from the user. The user will establish a password or authentication key to trigger the encryption so once the system is powered down the drive is locked.
@Eigenvektor Because they use a dedicated processor on each drive the decryption key isn't stored in RAM so it's more secure in that manner.

Lurick reacted to JP5 in Gen4 NVME Compatibility Questions
1. maybe, the heat output of an ssd is likely more dependant on the drive itself, but if you run it at gen 3 speeds you should see a decrease in thermals when the ssd is running at full capacity compared to gen 4.
2. yes, NVME protocol is backwards compatible.

Those're what I figured, but I just wanted to ask; thanks a bunch

Lurick reacted to Eigenvektor in are there any hardware level encrypted ssd/flash drives
Maybe I misunderstood what OP is asking, but I thought they were asking about encryption baked into the individual flash chips

Lurick reacted to StillerMarcel in Is Emily still around?
I've seen that video too. I think, it was a server video. But I'm not really sure.
I'm not really watching the WAN show actively. I just watch the clips that seem interesting to me. I mean - that's the reason, clips even exist, right?
Let's give her time. I can understand, than some people don't really want to show themselves that short after an outing. I mean, the trans people most know best how it feels like, if you have to fight harassment or even think about it.

Lurick reacted to Skipple in Is Emily still around?
If I remember correctly, I believe that Linus mentioned it during the WAN show, although someone with a better memory than I can correct me as to where I heard or read this. Emily decided she wanted to take time away from the camera after her announcement, but is welcome to come back on-camera if/when she feels ready. I do believe she was shown very briefly in a video a few months ago, although I can't remember what that video was.

That looks like it's just a regular punch-down keystone behind a fancy cover, so yes. PoE will work fine.

Lurick reacted to Bdavis in Setting up a Ubiquiti 24 port POE Switch
I've had this issue in the past. The desktop app has difficulty seeing new devices. You need to ssh into the switch and input a command to inform your controller.
https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/204909754-UniFi-Network-Remote-Adoption-Layer-3
You will need to download an app called putty to ssh in. I believe the default user and password is ubnt.
You should be able to find the IP address of the switch on the settings menu of the touch screen on the switch.
Open putty, input the switch IP address and click connect, input your credentials user:ubnt password: ubnt. When logged in enter this command being sure to input the IP address of your controller: http://ip-of-host:8080/inform.

Lurick reacted to Kilrah in Updating Windows, but how do i remove Sledgehammer completely? (instructions unclear)
This is a thing that changes Windows settings, so the app itself is portable, but you've still gotta run the script if you want to undo the changes it made.

Lurick reacted to Average Nerd in Is it possible to upgrade the USB-C port or HDMI port on a laptop?
No. Because the interface from the controller will still be the exact same thing. All you would accomplish is replacing the connector, but the interface running through it won't change.
-
Lurick reacted to igormp in Is it possible to upgrade the USB-C port or HDMI port on a laptop?
no, that's not possible. The ports are related to the USB/HDMI controller, usually found within the CPU itself or on a different controller.

Lurick reacted to CrowTheRobot in SysAdmin work attire
So far I've only worked in school district IT, and one district insisted on at least buttoned shirts or polos and nice pants, while the one I'm currently at fits more of your description, and that's with extensive customer contact in both situations 😅

Lurick reacted to LogicalDrm in SysAdmin work attire
Jeans, band shirts and hoodies is most common I've seen of IT people that aren't in contact with customers. As in they don't need to make good impression, just do their work properly.
